  • The surface and edge structure of OSB is defined by surface strand orientation and strand mat thickness variation parallel to the length of the panel using video-microscope. The bending strength of OSB was correlated with surface strand orientation and decreased with increasing the orientation angle in the direction parallel to length of the panel. Average strand mat thickness variation parallel to the length of the panel did not influence the bending strength, but the bonding characteristics among the outermost strands affects the bending strength of OSB. Hankinson formula can be used to predicts the MOE according to strand orientation in the surface of OSB, and more precise strand alignment and reducing thickness variation should be important in the structural performance of OSB panels.

  • This paper presents a two Hall sensor method for rotor angle detection in permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM). To minimize the implementation complexity, the system is designed to measure the edge field of permanent magnet pieces. However, there are nonlinearities in the measured values of the edge field. In this work, an angle correction algorithm is proposed, and the improvements in accuracy are verified through experiments. Finally, a field orientation controller is constructed with the proposed angle detection algorithm.

  • A novel algorithm which computes the orientations and the locations of mobile robots with repeating feature of ceiling textures is proposed. For orientation computation, the relative angle between a strait line on a ceiling image and the center line of the robot is firstly computed. The relative angle is added to the global reference angles of straight lines of the ceiling and a group of robot orientation candidates is composed. The robot orientation is determined from such orientation candidate group by choosing the closest one to the previous robot orientation. Similarly, the location of the robot is determined from the robot location candidate group by choosing the closest one to the previous robot location, where robot location candidate group is composed by adding the relative location of the robot to global locations of neighboring nodes of the previous robot locations. The experiment has been done to test the accuracy of the algorithm in computing locations and orientations.

  • Injection molding is the most widely used process fir the industrial forming of plastic articles. During an injection molding process of composites, the fiber-matrix separation and fiber orientation are caused by the flow of molten polymer/fiber mixture. As a result. the product tends to be nonhomogeneous and anisotropic. Hence, it is very important to clarify the relations between separation orientation and injection molding conditions. So far, there is no research on the measurement of fiber orientation using image processing. In this study, the effects of fiber content ratio and molding condition on the fiber orientation-angle distributions are studied experientially. Using the image processing method, the fiber orientation distribution of welding pars in injection-molded products is assessed. And the effects of fiber content and injection mold shapes on the fiber orientation in case of fiber reinforced polymeric composites are studied experimentally.
