Impairment of balance between bone-resorbing osteoclasts and bone-forming osteoblasts result in bone disease. Especially, increased osteoclast formation and activity are responsible for bone diseases such as osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, periodontal disease. Natural metabolites of plants have recently received much attention as an alternative tools for the development of novel therapeutic strategy. The aim of this study was to search the natural products to inhibit osteoclast differentiation and was to evaluate of its mechanism. Water extract of Gastrodia elata Blune significantly inhibited receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL)-induced osteoclast differentiation in bone marrow macrophages (BMMs) in a dose dependent manner. However, water extract of Gastrodia elata Blune did not affect cytotoxicity when compared with control. The mRNA expression of c-Fos, NFATc1, and TRAP induced by RANKL was inhibited by water extract of Gastrodia elata Blune treatment. Also, water extract of Gastrodia elata Blune inhibited the protein expression of c-Fos and NFATc1 expression in BMMs treated with RANKL. Water extract of Gastrodia elata Blune suppressed the phosphorylation of p38 induced by RANKL. In general, RANKL considerably inhibited the expression level of Id2 and MafB known as negative regulators of osteoclastogenesis, but RANKL did not inhibit Id2 and MafB expression in BMMs when it was co-treated with Gastrodia elata Blune. Taken together, these results suggest that Gastrodia elata Blune may be a useful drug in the treatment of bone-related disease.

We have previously shown that water extract of deer antler (WEDA) inhibited RANKL-mediated osteoclast differentiation from bone marrow macrophages by suppressing c-Fos and NFATc1 expression. Thus, we examined the effect of WEDA in inflammation-induced bone loss in vivo. Here we found that WEDA inhibited osteoblast-supported osteoclast differentiation induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). However, WEDA did not suppress the expression of receptor activator of NF-${\kappa}B$ ligand (RANKL) in response to LPS in osteoblasts. WEDA also inhibited the bone resorptive activity of mature osteoclasts. To examine the effect of WEDA on bone loss, when LPS injected subcutaneously in mice, bone loss was greatly increased, but WEDA treatment inhibited LPS-mediated bone loss. Taken together, we conclude that WEDA inhibited osteoclast differentiation and bone resorption in vitro and in vivo. Thus WEDA may be useful in the treatment of bone-related disorders.

Sutures are used not only for wound closure but also for oriental medicine field, beauty and even for plastic surgery. Especially, it is popular in the field of cosmetic surgery. In this paper, we produced sutures using PCL and PLLA with better strength than PDO sutures, which was widely used in the past. To learn about the mechanical characteristics of the PCL and PLLA sutures, the contraction change, tensile strength, and elongation were measured. And SEM was also analyzed for diameter and surface. The contraction change Ratio of sutures are stabilized after a certain period of time regardless of temperature. Also, it can be seen that the higher the temperature, the higher the contraction increase rate. And the rate change of mechanical properties is different according to the temperature before and after the glass temperature. Also the higher the temperature, the faster the molecular motion and the lower the tensile strength. The diameter of the PLLA and PCL sutures is opposite to the contraction change ratio. And it is considered that the sterilization temperature of PLLA sutures is best to set at $45^{\circ}C$ and the sterilization temperature of PCL sutures is best to set at $35^{\circ}C$.
There are two opinions on the legal characteristics of damages for non-pecuniary loss, a private sanctions theory and complementary function of damages for non-pecuniary loss, briefly. There is a close connection between the legal characteristics and the function of damages for non-pecuniary loss. The functions of damages for non-pecuniary loss are consist of satisfaction, prevention( sanctions) and complementation. Several cases of medical injury relief reported to Korea Comsumer Agency are categorized as follows, 1) cases of death after having an operation, 2) diagnosed with disability after a medical accident, 3) extended damages happening related to delayed diagnosis, 4) et cetera(a plastic surgery, a treatment with oriental medicine), and the damages for non-pecuniary loss in respect to each cases are examined. In the case of occurring death or disability, Korea Comsumer Agency has set up guidelines for assessment of damages for non-pecuniary loss by classifying into major and collateral violation for a duty of care. Furthermore, the damages for non-pecuniary loss in the case of all sorts of cancers, are assessed in accordance with the degree of responsibility subsequent to dividing cancer into good and poor prognosis. When it comes to a complementary function of damages for non-pecuniary loss in the actual work, it is hard to assess the damages as it is difficult to objectify non-pecuniary loss, such as emotional distress. Though compensation for damages is major legal characteristics of consolation money, preventing a damage(private sanctions) through consolation for a victim or sanctions against an assailant also has great significance. Therefore, it is necessary to approach flexibly for mutual agreement by considering specialty( concrete facts) of individual issue thoroughly. If considering this aging society that limits the possible age for work to 60 years old, it is needed to have a complementary function of consolation money in mind not to make it less meaningful for victims due to small sum of consolation money.
