  • A lot of medicine-related schools have courses for Medical English in their curricula these days. Medical English of Oriental Medical Colleges is somewhat different from that of other colleges, especially medical schools, in contents for the lecture. The lectures on Medical English of Oriental Medical Colleges need to include : Oriental medical terminology, Medical terminology, Materials about Oriental Medicine and Western Medicine, Writing about Oriental Medicine in English, Conversation with patients in English, Presentation on Oriental Medicine in English. It would be better that the study of Medical English should be placed in the second year of pre-medical course in Oriental Medical Colleges.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze harmful heavy metals and residual pepsticides in 30 kinds of oriental medical materials. This study was carried out on 32 samples with 30 kinds of Oriental medical materials. The GC-ECD(Varian, CP-3800) was used to analyze residual pepsticides. ICP-OES(Varian, Vista-MPX) was used to analyze lead, arsenic, cadmium. Mercury was analyzed by amalgamation method. Arsenic was detected less than 3(mg/kg) in 21 samples and was not detected 11 samples. Lead was detected less than 5(mg/kg) in 25 samples and was not detected 7 samples. Mercury was detected less than 0.2(mg/kg) in 12 samples and was not detected 20 samples. Cadmium was detected more than 0.3(mg/kg) in 3 samples was detected less than 0.3(mg/kg) in 17 samples and was not detected 12 samples. This study was carried out on 30 samples of oriental medical materials. The examination's methods fallow the guideline of Food and Drug Administration. Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICP-OES) was used to analyze lead, arsenic, cadmium. Mercury was analyzed by amalgamation method. A modified Monier-Williams method was used to analyze sulfur dioxide. The Gas Chromatography / Electron Capture Detector (GC/ECD) was used to analyze residual pesticides. Most of the results were within normal limits at baseline. but Cadmium was detected 0.523 mg/kg more than 0.3 mg/kg in Cinnamomi ramulus and Endosulfan was detected 11.595 mg/kg more than 0.2 mg/kg in Alismatis rhizoma. • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to reexamine current oriental medical treatment fees based on valuation of input resources which are the treating time, the treatment's difficulty, and the material cost. Methods : This study obtained the following results by reviewing the answers given by 172 oriental medical doctors from March 1 to April 15, 2006. To investigate material cost, we took inventory of treatment materials used by 2 oriental hospitals. Results : The current system does not reflect well enough the treating time and treatment's difficulty. Considering current oriental treatment fees, material costs are too much of doctors' fees. Especially, Wang-ssuk-dduem, which is another form of moxibustion treatment, was spent as much as 74.6% on materials cost. Conclusions : The findings suggest the current oriental treatment fees should be revised to reflect the actual input resources into oriental medical doctor activities and to avoid a distortion of physicians' behavior.
