  • We propose a mash-up system for searching herb, which can search the herbal information in oriental medicine fields using the various Open APIs. We in particular developed and opened two Open APIs which enable to search papers and projects in oriental medicine fields with the general Open APIs. These Open APIs can share and provide the expert knowledge in oriental medicine fields. The information for a herb in oriental medicine fields has various names and descriptions according to their sources unlike other fields. Thus, it is hard to get the results using one or two keywords such as the general search engines. To solve this problem, we in this paper propose a way to provide the more exact and extensive search results using the herb ontology with one hundred herbal information in oriental medicine fields.

  • Objective : This is a comprehensive review summary of anticancer effect through autophagy using herb. Method : Data were retrieved from pubmed and authorized texts concerning anticancer effect through autophagy using herb.g its ant Results : A total of 5 potentially relevant studies were identified with including 4 in vitro papers. All papers were related to single herb extract or its compound providini-cancer effect through autophagy mechanisms of up-regulated pro-autophagy proteins and down-regulated anti-autophagy proteins. Conclusion : We can search five potentially relevant studies with anticancer treatment through enhancing autophagy mechanism. Autophagy will be a good pathway mechanism to explore novel experimental therapeutics in herb.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to study as reference for practical application in clinics, examine the procedure of historical changes and compare components and their doses of herb medicines, which are recorded in the chapter, Sinmun Jeonkwang of "Donguibogam". Methods : I examined 19 Herb Medicines (Ed note: no need to capitalize the 'h' and 'm') in Chapter Sinmun Jeonkwang of "Donguibogam". Fourteen books, which were noted in Chapter Sinmun Jeonkwang of "Donguibogam" and 16 books in Jeonkwang part of "The Eastern Medical Textbook of neuropsychiatry" and 25 books were mentioned in same part of "Uibujeonrok", were selected as reference. Results and Conclusions : Fourteen documents were referred to the 19 Herb Medicines in Chapter Sinmun Jeonkwang of "Donguibogam". Seventeen Herb Medicines were recorded in the source book but 2 Herb Medicines were not recorded. Fourteen Herb Medicines among 19 were recorded in the source book, which were directly quoted from the firstly appeared books, and 3 Herb Medicines were re-quoted from the other books that succeeded the source books. I suspect that the components and dosages of the Herb Medicines were revised, according to the author's clinical experience and circumstances.

  • Objectives : The effects of cotreatment of adriamycin and ethanol extract of herb (Palgin-tang hab Hwajuck-hwan a traditional medicine for cancer treatment in oriental medicine) on the induction of apoptotic cell death were investigated in human liver origin cell lines, Chang. Methods : Chang(ATCC) liver cells were cultured in RPMI-1640(Gibco SRL Co, Gaithersburg, MD) badge including 10% fetal bovine serum. Chang liver cells were treated with various concentrations(from 10 to $0.16{\mu}l$) of adriamycin and herb extract(from 500 to $31.25{\mu}l$) After 48h later, the cells were tested for viability by Crystal violet staining assay. Adriamycin and Herb extract induced ladder pattern of DNA fragmentation in Chang cells. Genomic DNA was isolated and separated on 1.5% agarose gels. The DNA was stained with ethidium bromide and visualized under UV light. Results : The death of Chang cells was synergistically induced by the cotreatment of adriamycin and ethanol extract of herb. In addition, the cotreatment-induced cell death of Chang cells was mediated by apoptotic death signal processes. The phosphotransferase activity of JNK1 remained in a basal level in Chang cells which was treated individually with the adriamycin and ethanol extract of herb. However, it was markedly increased in Chang cells which was cotreated with adriamycin and ethanol extract of herb. In addition, the expression of Fas and FasL was markedly induced by the cotreatment of adriamycin and herb extract. For a while, the expression of Sax was a eminently increased by the ethanol extract of herb. However, Scl2 expression was not affected by the individual or cotreatment of adriamycin and herb extract. Conclusions : our results suggest that the cotreatment of adriamycin aM ethanol extract of herb induces synergistic apoptotis of human liver origin Chang cells via the upregulation of JNK, Fas, FasL and Bax.

  • This study tried to integrate the traditional oriental medical theories and results of experimental studies of herbaceous plants on anti-diabetes. And I tried to analyze recent experimental study trend on the anti-diabetic herb. I searched anti-diabetic herb studies on 4 korean databases and 10 korean journals by keywords, 'diabetes', 'blood glucose', 'glycometabolism', 'pancreatic ${\beta}$-cell', etc. In order to see detail review, searching was performed from 2000 to 2010. And I searched 125 study cases concerning anti-diabetic herb and 72 varieties herbaceous plants used in study of anti-diabetes. and I analyzed the choice motives of each herb for anti-diabetic study, the extract methods and anti-diabetic evaluation contents. And I analyzed anti-diabetic herbs from a traditional oriental medical point of view. When the researchers chose herb for anti-diabetic experiment, just 8.8% of the choice was based on the oriental medical evidences. I found that 60.6% of the herb shown to be effective in diabetes experimentally had oriental medical theory-based Properties(性). There were studies with whole plants(16.8%), aqueous extract(45.6%), methanol extract(8.0%), ethanol extract(8.0%) and comparative studies of more than 2 types of extracts or various fractions(18.4%). The most frequent experimental diabetic models was diabetic mouse induced by streptozotocin(STZ)(87.8%). And there were db/db mouse(6.7%), ob/ob mouse(1.1%), etc. 33.6% of all studies just measured hematological indices of diabetes, and 66.4% researches analyzed details. To improve herbaceous plants study on diabetes, we oriental medical scientists have to integrate the oriental medical theories and results of experimental studies.

  • This study was done in order to investigate Oriental Medicine's meaning on stress, the stress is due to animal experiments. Methods:This research was done by animal experiments's results based on 41 animal experiment treatises carried out by 24 prescriptions about stress control. Each experiments were compared with same conditions, minimizing the experiments differences. The results were analyzed by p-value and Increas e·Decrease percentage of experiments result's numerical value. Results:1. Inquire into frequency in use of each stress stimulus and measuring items, the restriction stimulus stress and measuring the content of catecholamines are numerous.2. Significance of stress stimuluses based on experments's results is good by restriction stimulus.3. Oriental Medicine's meaning for stress is pathological phenomenon of Seven Emotion(七情). Stagnant the Energy(氣鬱), the Fire(火), Dam(痰), Lack of the general Blood thing(血虛), and reaction of an individual body.4. Inguire into the effects of frequency in use of experiments's Herb drugs, Herb Drugs of Tonifing the general Blood thing depend on stabilized Mind(補血安神), Circulated the Energy and Digest(理氣消導), Tonifing the general Blood thing(補血), Clearing the Mind(淸心), Removing the Dam(祛痰) are numerous.5. From a Sasang Medical point of view, experimental use of Herb Drugs are Soeum-in(少陰人) Herb Drugs are numerous.According to above results, it is considered that Herb Drugs of Tonifing the general Blood thing depend on stabilized Mind(補血安神), Circulated the Energy and Digest(理氣消導), Tonifing the general Blood thing(補血), Clearing the Mind(淸心), Removing the Dam(祛淡), and Soeum-in(少陰人) Herb Drugs are used to prevent stress and related diseases.
