  • The Mandala art therapy is used as a clinical method for helping patients to perceive their internal existence and to maintain harmonious between body and mind. Despite the fact that Mandala is congruous with the oriental philosophy, there are few studies that approach Mandala from the view point of the oriental medicine. Method : This study looks into the Maudala art therapy from the perspective of Yin-Yang Wuxiug(陰陽五行) and examines the possibility of using Mandala art therapy in the oriental medical practice. Results : In Analyzing the symbols of Mandala, the lines can be interpreted in terms of Yin and Yang, and the preferences for colors and the style of expression can be interpreted in terms of the body organs associated with colors and emotions in Wuxing. In addition, the clinical effects of Mandala, such as body-mind harmony and self-examination, are congruous with the Suncbeondo(先天圖) of the oriental medicine primer. Conclusion : The Mandala art therapy bas a potential to be used for medical diagnosis and treatment in the oriental medicine. Therefore, it is necessary to research and develop various Mandala art programs and assess their effectiveness through applications to medical cases.

  • This study was directed at analysing nursing practice in one oriental medicine hospital. In this study, the nurses were chosen from two units at one oriental medicine hospital. Using the worksampling method, a total of 780 series of nursing actions were collected over thirteen days. this study had two findings. First, the percentage for the amount of actual nursing practice was 79.5% which is lower than the amount of actual nursing practice in other western style general hospitals. Second, the content of nursing practice included nursing actions(43.8%), nursing management (35.5%), and education /research (0.1%), indicating that only the special care of oriental nursing and education /research were not observed in nursing practice. These findings indicate a deficit knowledge in oriental medicine and oriental nursing care by nurses in oriental medicine hospitals. Since Oriental Nursing has not been included in Nursing curriculum, there is a need for research to develop basic education in Oriental Medicine and pharmacology as well as the development of a sgstematized approach to Oriental Nursing so as to provide an appropriate background for nurses working in this field. Further research is needed to define nursing in the Oriental Medicine system.

  • Sumuk drawings are made with water and muk(墨), which are used to express the light, shade and texture of an object. The expression methods of oriental drawing can be divided into three methods: pictorialization, abstractness and realism. The method of pictorialization expresses traditional pictures or letters. Abstractness show an artist's aesthetic feeling through sprinkling, splashing and spreading diffusion of muk. The method of realism is Takbon which makes a copy painting directly from a monument by rubbing a paper with ink. Modern fashion designer attempts to develop a new Sumuk technique based on both oriental drawing style and western watercolor painting style. Rather than following the designated styles of oriental drawings and Korean drawings, new Sumuk technique colors detailed structures expressed as outlines, dots and lines or creates abstract patterns through spreading or spilling in showing theme of flowers, plants and insects. In this study, in order to develop fashion cultural products with Sumuk technique, rubbed copy of the ancient 'Emile bell Takbon' was used. For this study, with the combination of different colors and the patterns from 'Emile bell Takbon', designs for scarfs, shirts and one-piece dresses were created. These techniques enabled to express soft and strong Takbon image in simple Sumuk technique in harmony with modern trends.

Help controling unnecessary weight and establishing proper understanding of desirable body images and healthy life for adolescents are expected. Methods: The questionnaire surveys and physical examinations were conducted to examine the life style, weight-control behaviors, and the health status of 173 adolescent girls in Jeonju. Among the students surveyed, 162 answered seriously and were accepted as subjects for the study. Results: 1. The mean height was 160.4 cm and weight was 54.21 kg. The mean BMI of the girls was 21.1 kg/m2, which is normal. The percentages of the normal weight group (71.6%), overweight group (16.7%), obesity group (9.9%), underweight group (1.9%) were shown respectively. 2. The oriental medicine doctor examined the tongue diagnosis. The thin and white tongue fur was the most common (20.7%). This diagnosis showed no statistical significance to BMI. 3. The ideal height for the girls was 165 cm, and the ideal weight was 49 kg. 4. A considerable number of girls (50.6%) thought that a thin body figure was the most beautiful body shape for the women. 5. Even though the percentages of an actual overweight or obese group were 26.6%, 42.0% of the girls thought that they were plump. 6. 94.83% of the normal weight group concerned about the weight regulation. 7. Many girls were dissatisfied with their own body shape, and 86.9% of girls regarded being in a shape was important. 70.69% of the normal weight group answered that they were under stress of their body shapes. Conclusions: The findings of this study demonstrate that there are serious misconceptions on body shapes of the adolescent girls, and mostly, unnecessary and inadequate weight control behaviors were done. Therefore, establishing adequately education on their desirable body images and healthy life is needed for the adolescent girls. In this study, there is no significant relationship between BMI and tongue diagnosis. For the number of subjects is not enough, further study on the relationship between the two is expected.

  • For effective production of interspecific hybrids of Lilium and valuable new cultivars, we used Lilium Asiatic hybrid 'Tiny Ghost' as the female parent, and Oriental group, and Longiflorum group and Martagon as the male parents. Percentage pollen germination in Oriental hybrid 'Sorbonne' was the highest with 64%. As results of using normal style pollination and cut style pollination methods, all seed sets were formed in normal style pollinated treatment, except in 'Aktiva'. Pollen germination percent of Longiflorum hybrid 'Norina' was higher than that 'Gelria'. However, all crossings using 'Norina' failed to set seeds. Corresponding fertilization ratio was different from genetic compatibility, even in the same group. From the crossing using 'Aktiva' as the male parent one bulb was obtained derived from one embryo sac. And using 'Sorbonne' as the male parent, one plantlet was obtained after four ovule cultures. Crossing using 'Gelria' as the male parent five embryos, 15 embryo sacs, and seven ovules per one ovary were obtained. Among them, 18 plantlets germinated, with the germination percent of 66.7%. Crossings using L. hansonii, Martagon group, as the male parent resulted in 40% germination from five ovules.

  • This paper presents an automatic rendering system for 3D meshes which generates images in the style of oriental black ink painting. In this paper, we analyze the characteristics of black ink painting and present some requirements for our black ink rendering system. Then we survey the steps used by artists to create black ink paintings. Based on the analysis of drawing steps, we propose a black ink rendering system which reproduces the key features of black ink painting through three sub-systems: the feature line layer, the interior shading layer, and the media layer. The main contribution of this paper is to introduce new methods which generate realistic and natural results very fast while any simulation methods are not used to satisfy real-time performance. We describe our implementation of each of these, and demonstrate our results in the major three styles of black ink painting: the outline style, the spontaneous style, and the outline-spontaneous style. Our system renders 3D models of moderate complexity at interactive frame rates. As a result, we expect that our system can be directly applied to real-time applications such as computer games and virtual environments.

  • This study has as its primary aims the following: to create a fashion design based on the aesthetic value of Art Nouveau which flourished from the end of 19 century to the beginning of 20 century. In this thesis, two themes, Rose Aroma and Iris Memory are selected among the flower patterns and are used to create two works. First, the Rose Aroma theme is for an evening dress of S-curve style made with Silk Jacquard based on rose image of Art Nouveau. For decoration, artificial rose and its stem, and leaves are used to highlight hip line. By such design associated with a flower garden, cubic effects are expressed as a design point. Second, the Iris Memory theme is for a wedding dress made with tulle based on Iris image of Art Nouveau. This dress has a special point in its top bra, underwear used like an outer garment, involving spangle, beads, pearl, and cubic in order to enhance its visual effect. These works are significant in presenting the development possibilities of various fashion designs by introducing Art Nouveau style into diverse modern fashions.
