Background: Eight-Constitution Medicine (ECM) devides the human body into eight constitutions. Up until now, checking the pulse types is only way to classify the eight constitution. Recently we try to make a questionnaire that is based on the Eight-Constitution characters and analyze the answer from patients who were classified into one of the eight constitutions according to their pulse types and their responses to constitution-acupuncture therapy Objective: This study intends to analyze each answer of the Eight-Constitution Questionnaire with independent sample t-test. Methods: Participants of this study were outpatients in ECM clinics located in Korea. The resources were collected from 925 patients who were classified into one of the eight constitutions according to their pulse types and their responses to constitution-acupuncture therapy. SPSS 13.0 for Windows was used for independent sample t-test. Results and Conclusions: 1. The proportion of participants' constitutions is in the order of Pancreotonia (28.0%), Colonotonia (17.3%), Pulmotonia (18.1%), Hepatonia (18.1%), Vesicotonia (8.5%), Cholecystotonia (7.0%), Renotonia (2.6%) and Gastrotonia (0.4%). 2. Eight-Constitution Questionnaire consists of 5 parts; Appearance, Character, Body reaction, Physiology & Pathology and Food reaction. 3. 10 items were chosen among 42 question about Appearance. 4. Due to the deficiency of Gastrotonia examples, useful items have to be given up. If we can gather Gastrotonia examples, we can use meaningful items more than 10.

Objectives: We performed this study to check the effect of Cold-Heat attribute analyzed quantitatively by questionnaire on halitosis patient. Methods: We made a questionnaire composed of 15 items(6 categories) about the contents of Cold-Heat and asked 105 subjects to answer in the form Likert-like seven-points score. And then, we extracted Cold-Heat attribute from 15 items, 6 categories, 6 weighted categories, heat score and cold score. On the other hand we measured the halimeter measurements. VAS, winkle tongue coating index. Afterward, the data were analyzed by statistical methods. Results:1) In the 15 items, question number 6, 7, 8 is negative correlated with halimeter measurements. Question number10 is positive correlated with halimeter measurements. And question number 11, 12, 14 is positive correlated with VAS. 2) In the 6 categories, constipation is negative correlated with halimeter measurements. Chill is positive correlated with VAS. And Cold-limbs is positive correlated with halimeter measurements. 3) In the 6 weighted score categories, constipation is negative correlated with halimeter measurements. Chill is positive correlated with VAS. And Cold-limbs is positive correlated with halimeter measurements. Conclusions: Further clinical research is necessary in the development of the questionnaire's items. And to get the better of this study, we should research more analytic method made casual relationship clear between Cold-Heat attributes and the index of halitosis.
Objectives This paper was designed for studying the features of digestion according to Sasang Constitution and to be helpful to make a diagnosis Sasang Constitution. Using the result of this study, it will be helpful to diagnose a Sasang constitution. Methods There were 588 patients(248 men, 340 women) who answered questionnaire and were diagnosed by the Sasang Constitution Specialist at Constitutional Clinic of Dongguk Bundang Oriental Hospital. This software would be used as tool not only health examination but also clinical research.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between Yin-deficiency questionnaire score and various biofunctional signals in women. Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed on charts of 195 patients who visited Gangdong Kyung Hee Hospital between April 1st and September 30th, 2011. The subjects were categorized into two groups, a low Yin-deficiency group (n=118) and a high Yin-deficiency group (n=77). The authors analyzed the correlation between Yin-deficiency questionnaire score and biofunctional signals by Pearson's correlation coefficient test and the difference in biofunctional signals between the two groups by independent samples t-test using SPSS for windows. Results: 1. Negative correlations were observed between the temperature difference of back-humerus, standard deviation of all R-R intervals (SDNN), total power (TP), low frequency (LF), high frequency (HF) on heart rate variability parameters, and Yin-deficiency questionnaire score. A positive correlation was observed between the temperature difference of knee-humerus and Yin-deficiency questionnaire score. 2. The temperature difference of back-humerus in the high Yin-deficiency group was significantly higher than that in the low Yin-deficiency group. The temperature difference of knee-humerus, height, waist-hip ratio, SDNN, TP, LF, and HF of the high Yin-deficiency group were significantly lower than those of the low Yin-deficiency group. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that the comprehensive diagnosis of Yin-deficiency and biofunctional signals is useful.
To evaluate the suitability and effectiveness of the questionnaire concerning personal properties on 'pattern of speech and activity' according to the Sasang constitution that were used in Iksan Wonkwang Oriental Medicine, we analyzed the data of 1,335 patients obtained through the electronic chart in the aspect of 'relative discrimination ability' to Sasang constitutions and 'response ratio' using statistical Package SPSS. In categories of 'speech pattern', No.2 (speak mildly and softly) was effectively discriminating Soeum type. No.4 (talkative) and No.7 (speak fast) were effective factors for the discrimination of Soyang type, though No.4 (talkative) was needed to be improved in response ratio. The category of 'activity pattern' has shown high response ratio but low discriminating power. However, No.2 (keep staying home but avoid going out) in this category was effectively discriminating Soeum type. The discriminating power of 'pattern of speech and activity' for the age group less than 20 years old was too low, so it is necessary to develop the questionnaire for the elementary to high school students as well as for the preschoolers.
