  • A view of the Orientalism that sees the Orient as the inferior Other, characterized by the heterogenic, eccentric, backward, and passive features, has been internalized in the unconsciousness of Westerners. 'Orientalism' which is the cultural device and the system of discourse to put Asia in the fixed frame of dominance was the West European centered term, designating Southwest Asia including South Europe and North Africa as Orient, and contained the idea that non-Western society could progress only with the acceptance of Western civilization. Accordingly, it is need to use this term deliberately. In addition, even though the Asian Look of the West, borrowing the images and costume styles of Asia has lost the original mentality of Asia, it was not initiated from the perception that sees Asia as the inferior Other. Since the Asian Ethnic Look is the Western costume, borrowing the image of Orient and style by being fascinated by Oriental Aesthetics, the attributes of it are different from those of Orientalism. Therefore, it is not appropriate to designate the Asian Ethnic Look as 'Orientalism Fashion' or 'Oriental Look' except for some eccentric manipulation of Asia costume and image. Instead, it is desirable to exchange the term 'Asian Look', 'Asian Fashion', and 'Asian Ethnic Look' upon occasions or the name of individual nation or region can be referred to as preferred alternatives. Today, Asia including Korea is taking the initiative in the World Fashion as one of central axes of World Fashion Industry, and cannot be interpreted from the perspective of West Centrism. Now, it's time to dissolve the dichotomous prejudice of the West centrism on Asia's own strength.

Songjae, LeeJongHyeong was a disciple of Cheongkang and published this book in 1984 by organizing the medical theory of Cheongkang, KimYoungHoon who lived in the turbulent period from the late period of Joseon to a chaotic state of Korea after the independence of Korea. Even though it is relatively recently published, it is a very important clinical book as well as historical material to look at the aspects of Oriental Medicine in the 20th century. The book contains several notable medical thoughts. First, you can look at one perspective of the 20th century Oriental Western medical study which is initiated by the introduction of Western Medicine in classification schemes and description of disease symptoms. In addition, he uses medicinal herbs such as Cyperus rotundus L., Pinellia ternate(Thunb.) Breit., Poria cocos Wolf, Angelica gigas Nakai, Cnidium officinale, and Paeonia lactiflora Pall as important items, it is found that qi and blood depressed gallbladder is considered as the main pathology of the disease. In terms of names and meaning of prescriptions, he prefers to use mild medicinal herbs rather than intense medicinal herbs. It seems that he tries to help people's lives with cheap and effective medicinal herbs.

  • There appears 7 chapters about questioning and answering between Lei Gong - Huang Di in which includes many contents that do not appear in other chapters of Su Wen(${\ulcorner}$素問${\lrcorner}$) and Ling Shu(${\ulcorner}$靈樞${\lrcorner}$). Especially terms such as Kui Duo(揆度), Qi Heng(奇恒), Yin Yang(陰陽), Cong Rong(從容). Ci Xiong(雌雄), Wu Zhong(五中), Zhong Shi(終始), Bi Lei(比類), Ming Tang(明堂), Ren shi(人事) do not show what they implicate and are difficult to understand. However, from the context, we assume that they maybe terms related to diagnosis. Although the Yin Yang Mai Fa of Su Wen totally differs from Nan Jing, we will look for the orgin of it through Wu Zhong. Furthermore, we will look into the development of Ren Ying Cun Kou Mai(人迎寸口脈), which does not appear in the contents of questioning and answering between Lei Gong Huang Di. The term Bi Lei that only appears in questioning and answering between Lei Gong - Huang Di will be analyzed along with diagnostic skill and the co-explained term Ren Shi. A lot of Xe Zheng(虛證) provoked by a intrinsic factor, Ren Shi, and suitability of its development to Lei Gong - Huang Di 's Mai Fa will be more closely discussed.

The poor beauty in the West features non-form of no shape, asymmetry and disharmony and the characteristic in its contents is "distortion", and the characteristic in its expression features external form of "incorrectness" and internal meaning implying modem humans' frustration, resistance to materialism, and skepticism about mechanicalism.

  • In the present social-communicating situation of the folk remedies, we can say there is no responsible main group of it. When we look for recent published remedy books, their authors' background is too various. The folk remedy only focuses on the generality but it does not understand the problem of misusing with lack of explanation and classification in view of the oriental medicine. In conclusion, current folk remedies have formed a figure out of irresponsibility.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of aqueous extract from Picrasmae Lignum(PL). Methods: To evaluate the anti-inflammatory effects of PL extract, the productions of NO, PGE2 and expression of pro-inflammatory cytokine(IL-1b, IL-6 and TNF-a) were measured in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells. Furthermore Western blot analysis has been done to look into the inhibitory mechanisms such as MAPKs and NF-kB. Results: PL extract down-regulated LPS-induced NO, PGE2, IL-1b, IL-6 and TNF-a productions mainly through JNK and p38 MAPK pathway and NF-kB pathway. Conclusions: These results suggest that PL extract may be effective for the treatment of inflammatory diseases.
