버섯 폐배지의 수열전처리 과정 중 중간산물 생성이 바이오가스 수율에 미치는 영향 (Byproducts formation during hydrothermal pretreatment of spent mushroom substrate and effects onto biogas production efficiency)

  • 본 연구에서는 버섯 폐배지의 혐기성소화 효율 향상을 위해 수열전처리를 실시하고, 리그노셀룰로오스계 물질의 고온 가수분해 과정에서 생성될 수 있는 중간산물이 기질의 생분해도와 바이오가스 전환 효율에 미치는 영향을 함께 판단하였다. 수열전처리 온도의 범위를 150, 180, 210℃로 설정하였으며, 모든 수열전처리 온도에서 기질의 가용화율이 향상되는 결과를 확인할 수 있었다. 추가적으로, 150℃로 버섯 폐배지를 전처리한 경우에는 혐기성소화 효율에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 C/N 비가 개선되는 효과를 함께 확인하였다. 다만 전처리 온도가 180, 210℃인 경우에는 오히려 150℃로 전처리를 수행한 경우에 비해 메탄 생성량이 저하되는 경향을 보였는데, 이는 리그노셀룰로오스 물질의 중간분해 산물인 퓨란유도체의 형성으로 인해 메탄생성균이 영향을 받은 것으로 판단된다. 결국, 수열전처리를 통해 리그노셀룰로오스계 바이오매스의 가용화율 향상을 통한 메탄 생성 향상을 기대할 수 있으나, 혐기성소화 효율을 저해할 수 있는 중간산물이 생성되지 않는 적정 전처리 온도의 확인과 적용이 중요할 것으로 판단된다.

Removal characteristics of organic matter during pretreatment for membrane-based food processing wastewater reclamation

  • In this study, we investigated coagulants such as polyaluminum chloride (PACl) and ferric chloride ($FeCl_3$) and the combination of a coagulant and powdered activated carbon (PAC) for the removal of dissolved organic matter (DOM) from fish processing effluent to reduce membrane fouling in microfiltration. The efficiency of each pretreatment was investigated through analyses of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and ultraviolet absorbance at 254 nm ($UVA_{254}$). Membrane flux and silt density index (SDI) analyses were performed to evaluate membrane fouling; molecular weight distributions (MWD) and fluorescence excitation-emission matrix (FEEM) spectroscopy were analyzed to assess DOM characteristics. The results demonstrated that $FeCl_3$ exhibited higher DOC and $UVA_{254}$ removals than PACl for food processing effluent and a combination of $FeCl_3$ and PAC provided comparatively better results than simple $FeCl_3$ coagulation for the removal of DOM from fish processing effluent. This study suggests that membrane fouling could be minimized by proper pretreatment of food processing effluent using a combination of coagulation ($FeCl_3$) and adsorption (PAC). Analyses of MWD and FEEM revealed that the combination of $FeCl_3$ and PAC was more efficient at removing hydrophobic and small-sized DOM.

Ultrasonic Pretreatment for Thermophilic Aerobic Digestion in Industrial Waste Activated Sludge Treatment

  • In order to enhance the degradation efficiency of waste activated sludge (WAS) by thermophilic aerobic digestion, an ultrasonic pretreatment was examined. It was observed that ultrasonic pretreatment increased the solubilization of organic matter in the WAS and that the solubilization ratio of the organics increased during the first 30 min but did not extensively increase thereafter. Therefore, a pretreatment time of 30 min was determined to be the economical pretreatment time from the experimental results. From the digestion experiments, which was conducted using the WAS collected from an oil refinery plant in Inchon, Korea, investigating the effects of an ultrasonic pretreatment on thermophilic aerobic digestion, it was confirmed that the proposed ultrasonic pretreatment was effective at enhancing the release of the cellular components in WAS and the degradation of released components in the thermophilic aerobic digestion.

  • Poly(trimethylene terephthalate)(PTT) fiber was pretreated with organic solvent/water solution of various compositions. The organic solvents used in this experiment were benzyl alcohol, n-buthanol, and N,N-dimethylformamide(DMF). Density of the fibers were investigated as a measure of crystallite region. The dye uptake increased in the order of pretreatment with hot water < untreated < 5% benzyl alcohol < 100% benzyl alcohol < 90% benzyl alcohol; hot water < untreated $\risingdotseq$ 5% butanol < 100% beutanol < 90% butanol; hot water $\risingdotseq$ 5% DMF < untreated < 90% DMF < 100% DMF. The dye uptake increases with increase of crystallinity. It seems likely that the recrystallization process during the pretreatment with organic solvent/water solutions leads to an increase in the microvoid and then a large increase in the dye uptake. Also the dyeing rate increased and the dyeing transition temperature decreased with the pretreatments. The results obtained are corresponds with the plasticization of the fiber structure formed during the pretreatrnent.

  • Interest in aspects of industrialization relating to human health has increased. Accordingly, the use of labels such as 'natural foods' and 'organic ingredients' has become more widespread, and greater emphasis is being placed on improving quality of life. Water is an essential element for human life, and water quality has a significant impact on human health. However, technology that can precisely determine the substances present in water is still lacking. This study was conducted to establish a complete mass spectrometry process, from pretreatment to analysis, to measure and characterize natural organic matter (NOM) in Korean spring water samples. Salts and other matrices were removed from the samples using solid-phase extraction (SPE) with two different columns (PPL and C18). After establishing an accurate analysis method, the experimental results were evaluated based on Van Krevelen diagrams and analysis of molar O/C and H/C ratios. The method for characterizing NOM introduced herein should facilitate evaluation of water quality.

응집-UF 전처리 공정이 압력지연삼투 공정에 미치는 영향 (Effects of coagulation-UF pretreatment on pressure retarded osmosis membrane process)

  • Osmotic power is to produce electric power by using the chemical potential of two flows with the difference of salinity. Water permeates through a semipermeable membrane from a low concentration feed solution to a high concentration draw solution due to osmotic pressure. In a pressure retarded osmosis (PRO) process, river water and wastewater are commonly used as low salinity feed solution, whereas seawater and brine from the SWRO plant are employed as draw solution. During the PRO process using wastewater effluent as feed solution, PRO membrane fouling is usually caused by the convective or diffusive transport of PRO which is the most critical step of PRO membrane in order to prevent membrane fouling. The main objective of this study is to assess the PRO membrane fouling reduction by pretreatment to remove organic matter using coagulation-UF membrane process. The experimental results obtained from the pretreatment test showed that the optimum ferric chloride and PAC dosage for removal of organic matter applied for the coagulation and adsorption process was 50 mg/L as FeCl3 (optimum pH 5.5). Coagulation-UF pretreatment process was higher removal efficiency of organic matter, as also resulting in the substantial improvement of water flux of PRO membrane.

하수슬러지의 열처리에 의한 가용화효과 및 고온산발효의 분해효율에 미치는 영향 평가 (Effect of Heat Treatment of Sewage Sludge on Solubilization and Thermophilic Acid fermentation efficinecy)

  • 본 연구에서는 하수슬러지의 가용화를 위한 처리공정으로 열처리를 수행하였다. 열처리에 의하여 입자상 유기성분의 가용화를 확인할 수 있었다. $120^{\circ}C$ 30분의 열처리에 의하여 1차 슬러지의 경우 COD기준 8.3%의 가용화효과를 나타내었다. 반면 2차슬러지의 경우 16.5%의 높은 값을 보여주었고 이는 단백질의 높은 가용화 효과에 기인하는 것으로 나타났다. 한편 모든 슬러지에 대하여 열처리에 따른 분해율 및 유기산 생성율의 향상을 확인 할 수 있었다. 단 산발효 실험을 통하여 최적 열처리조건은 대상 기질의 유기물 조성에 따라 결정되는 것으로 판단되었다. 즉 탄수화물의 함량이 높았던 1차슬러지의 경우 $80^{\circ}C$ 30분의 열처리를 통하여 최대의 분해율과 유기산 생성효과를 얻었으며 단백질의 함량이 높았던 2차 슬러지의 경우 $120^{\circ}C$ 30분이 최적의 열처리 조건인 것으로 나타났다.

역삼투식 해수담수화의 전처리공정으로서 유분 제거의 평가 (Evaluation of Oil Pollutants Removal in Seawater as Pretreatment Process for Reverse Osmosis Desalination Process)

  • The various pretreatment processes were evaluated for removal of oil pollutants with weathered oil contaminated seawater in a reverse osmosis desalination process. Weathered oil contaminated seawater was made by biodegradation and photooxidation with oil containing seawater. Coagulation, ultrafiltration, advanced oxidation processes and granular activated carbon filtration was used with pretreatment for dissolved organic carbon. Crude oil was removed but. weathered oil contaminated seawater was not removed by biodegradation and coagulation. DOC and E260 was removed with about 20 % and 40 % by membrane filter of cut off molecular weight 500. So, the most of dissolved organic carbon in weathered oil contaminated seawater was revealed that molecular weight was lower than 500. It is difficult to remove DOC in weathered oil contaminated seawater by advanced oxidation processes treatment, but, E260 was removed more high. However, DOC in weathered oil contaminated seawater was easily adsorbed to GAC. It is revealed that DOC was removed by adsorption.

  • Leachate from municipal landfill site is known to be hard to treat because it commonly contains various toxic material and heavy metals. In addition, portions of biodegradable organic substances in leachate are decreasing in the course of wastes stabilization, which is one of the critical reason for inefficient biological treatment at the end stage of landfill site operation. So this study was conducted to examine the feasibility of municipal lanuill leachate pretreatment using electrolysis. The optimum electrode combination was made. The optimum electrode combination was found to be lead and graphite.

역삼투막을 이용한 해수담수화 플랜트에서 전처리 공정 기술 (An Overview of the Pretreatment Processes in Seawater Desalination Plants using Reverse Osmosis Membranes)

  • Seawater desalination process using a reverse osmosis (RO) membrane has been considered as one of the most promising technologies in solving the water scarcity problems in many arid regions around the world. To protect RO membrane in the process, a thorough understanding of the pretreatment process is particularly needed. Seawater organic matters (SWOMs) may form a gel layer on the membrane surface, which will increase a concentration polarization. As the SWOMs can be utilized as a substrate, membrane biofouling will be progressed on the RO membrane surface, resulting in the flux decline and increase of trans-membrane pressure drop and salt passage. In the middle of disinfection, an optimal chlorine dosage and neutralizer (sodium bisulfite, SBS) should be practiced to prevent oxidizing the surface of RO membranes. Additional fundamental research including novel non-susceptible biofouling membranes would be necessary to provide a guide line for the proper pretreatment process.
