Phosphorescent Iridium(III) Complexes based on the ppy Ligands Containing Electron-withdrawing Carbonyl Groups

  • We have synthesized and demonstrated a red emission in Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs) using phosphorescent iridium(III) complexes based on the 2-phenylpyridine ligands with electron-withdrawing carbonyl groups. Among those, a device exhibited highly efficient red-orange emission with the luminance of 20460 cd/$m^2$ at 12 V, the luminous efficiency of 22.0 cd/A at 20 mA/$cm^2$, and the $CIE_{x,y}$ coordinates of (x=0.560, y=0.439 ) at 10 V.

Method to Enhance Color Gamut up to 89 % in Bottom Emission Active-Matrix Organic Light Emitting Device

  • Though bottom emission AM-OLED has advantages in respect of mass production, the bottom emission type is underrated due to its low aperture ratio and low color gamut, compared with top emission type. In this paper, we demonstrate that the color gamut up to 89 % can be simply achieved by depositing dielectric multilayers, whose thicknesses are determined using an optical simulation program, prior to formation of Si layer.

  • Organic Light Emitting Diode(OLED), Optical Photovotaic Device(OPV)와 같은 유기소자에서 전극으로 적용되어지고 있는 Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) 박막의 유연성을 향상시키기 위하여 중간층으로 투명도(~80%)와 전도도(~1000 S/cm)가 우수한 PEDOT:PSS(PH1000)을 적용하였다. PEDOT:PSS(PH1000)의 적용으로 인하여 ITO 박막의 유연성이 현저히 개선됨과 동시에 PEDOT:PSS(PH1000)의 우수한 전도도로 인하여 보다 얇은 ITO의 두께에서도 우수한 면 저항(25 ${\Omega}/{\square}$ ~ 220 ${\Omega}/{\square}$) 및 비저항(3.75E-4 ${\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ ~ 4.40E-4 ${\Omega}{\cdot}cm$)의 값을 측정하였다.

  • Indium tin oxide (ITO) thin film is a transparent electrode, which is widely applied to solar battery, illuminators, optical switches, liquid crystal displays (LCDs), plasma display panels (PDPs), and organic light emitting displays (OLEDs) due to its easy formation on glass substrates, goof optical transmittance, and good conductivity. ITO thin film is generally fabricated by various methods such as spray, CVD, evaporation, electron gun deposition, direct current electroplating, high frequency sputtering, and reactive DC sputtering. However, some problems such as peaks, bumps, large particles, and pin-holes on the surface of ITO thin film were reported, which caused the destruction of color quality, the reduction of device life time, and short-circuit. Chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) processis one of the suitable solutions which could solve the problems.

  • In this research We investigated the effect of UV/O3, $O_3$ treatments of Indium-tin oxide(ITO) surface on the performance of organic light emitting devices(OLEDs). The fundamental structure of OLEDs was ITO(anode) / TPD(Hole Transport Layer) / $Alq_3$ / Al(cathode). We performed UV/O3, $O_3$ treatments and found that both treatments enhanced the performance of OLEDs. Current-Voltage, Luminance-Voltage characteristics were measured at room temperature.

  • 유기 전기 발광 소자(Organic Light-emitting Devices, OLEDs)의 발광 효율과 안정성을 향상시키고자 플라즈마 중합 장비를 이용해서 소자에 버퍼층(buffer layer)을 도입하였다. 플라즈마 중합 방법을 이용해서 성막된 PPMMA를 ITO와 정공 수송층 사이에 버퍼층으로 삽입하여 유기 전기 발광 소자를 제작하였고, 그 특성에 대하여 연구하였다. 기존에 사용되고 있는 버퍼층 공정에 비하여 공정의 단순화 및 비용절감의 효과를 기대할 수 있고, 전기-광학적 특성도 확인할 수 있었다.

  • We have studied new hole blocking layer for effective organic light emitting diodes. The device having a structure of ITO/2TNATA/$\alpha$-NPD/DPVBi : Rubrene(0.7%)/DPVBi/New Hole Blocking layer or BCP/$Alq_3$/LiF/Al has been used. The driving voltage of OLED with BCP(2,9-dimethyl-4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline) or New HBL were 5.5V and 4.4V, respectively. As a result, new HBL rather than BCP has a good hole blocking ability.

  • A microplasma current switch (MPCS) for a device operated in a current mode like organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), which features matrix addressability and current switching, is presented as well as its architecture and operational principle. The MPCS utilizes the intrinsic memory and conductivity of plasmas to achieve matrix addressability and current switching. We have fabricated a $100\;mm\;{\times}\;100\;mm$ MPCS panel in which its cell pitch is $1080\;{\mu}m\;{\times}\;1080\;{\mu}m$. The matrix addressability and current switching were verified. In addition, the current-voltage (I-V) characteristic of the unit cell was measured when plasmas were ignited. In principle, the scheme of the MPCS is equivalent to that of a double Langmuir probe diagnosing plasma parameters except for their relative dimensions to a plasma volume. Accordingly, the I-V characteristic was analyzed by a double Langmuir probe theory, and the plasma density and electron temperature were estimated from the I-V curve using a collisional double Langmuir probe theory.

  • OLED 소자의 전기적 특성을 온도 변화에 따라 측정을 하였다. OLED 소자는 N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis(3-methylphenyl)-1,1'-diphenyl-4,4'-diamine (TPD)를 정공 수송층으로, tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum(Alq3)를 전자송층 및 발광층으로 사용하였다. 전압-전류 특성은 온도 범위 $10K{\sim}300K$에서 측정하였다. OLED 소자에서의 전도 메커니즘의 해석은 Fowler-Nordheim tunneling 법을 이용하여 해석하였다.

  • The performance of an OLED fabrication system strongly depends on the design of the evaporation cell-source. Therefore, necessity of the preceding study for cell source development of new concept is becoming increase. A development plan to substitute for experiment is applied as use simulation. In this study interpret behavior of a particle through DSMC techniques, and in this paper presenting a form to make so as to have better performance of the pointtype cell source which had a nozzle.
