Fatty acid, amino acid and organic acid contents were analyzed by gas chromatography, amino acid analyzer and high pressure liquid chromatography, respectively, in order to compare the chemical constituents of upland wasabi plant propagated by seed and auxiliary bud. Total fatty acid content and fatty acid composition of upland wasabi were not affected by the propagation methods. Generally, fatty acid content of leaf was higher than that of other parts such as enlarged stem, petiole, peduncle and root. In fatty acid composition, leaf had highest content of linolenic acid, 60-63%, in plant propagated by both seed and auxiliary bud, followed by palmitic acid, oleic acid and linoleic acid in the order. Similarly, total amino acid content was not influenced by propagation methods but plant propagated by seed had higher amount of amino acid content in enlarged stem, petiole and root than that by auxiliary bud -propagated plant. A total of 17 amino acids including 7 essential amino acids were identified in both seed and auxiliary bud propagations. Like total fatty acid content and fatty acid composition, leaf contained high amount of amino acids, especially glutamic acid, asparatic acid and leucine. Organic acid contents were similar in both propagation methods. The major organic acid in upland wasabi was acetic acid (60.0-78.2%), followed by succinic acid (9.9-29.7%) and malic acid (2.9-7.9%). Maleic acid content was least (0.5-2.6%). The result indicates that content and composition of fatty acid, amino acid, and organic acid in upland wasabi were not influenced by propagation methods.
A carotennnoprotein from the skin of Ascidian(Halocynthia roretzi) was extracted by Triton X-100 and purified by ammonium sulfate fraction, SephadexG-200 charomatography and DEAE-cellulose ion exchange chromatography. The carotenoprotein was redwith broad $\lambda$$_{max}$ between 495, 467 and 318nm. The red carotenoprotein had an approximate molecular weight of 326KDa(gel filtration). SDS-PAGE indicated the presence of two polypeptodes of 84.1KDa and 74.4KDa, with different mobility in polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. In the presence of denaturing agents such as organic solvent aand extreme pH, the red complex readily disociates to liberate the yellow carotenoid($\lambda$$_{max}$ 452nm) and a colourless apoprotein. The amino acid composition of carotenoprotein were mainly threonine(15.2%), aspartic acid(12.2%), glutamic acid(11.9%) and serine(9.6%), while proline was not found. The carotenoprotein consisted of lipids as structure units. Its major fatty acids composion were C$_{18:1}$, C$_{16:1}$, and C$_{16:0}$. The monounsaturated fatty acids(41.5%) contained abundant content compared to other fatty aacids(polyunsaturated fatty acids 37.4%, saturated fatty acids 20.6%).
This study has been carried out to investigate the composition of fatty Acids, organic acids, minerals, vitamin C, total phenolics and saponin in 30$\^{C}$ hot air dried powder of main and lateral root of Acorus calamus L. Major saturated fatty acids were identified caprylic acid, pentadecanoic acid, stearic acid and heneicosanoic acid, etc.. Content of caprylic acid in main and lateral root were 28.35% and 31.44%. Unsaturated fatty acids such as linoleic acid, palmitoeic acid and linoleic acid was highly contented, linoleic acid was highest contented 25.55% in main root and 23.43% in lateral root. Succinic acid was the most abundant organic acid of root content of main and lateral root were 2,790 mg% and 2,630 mg%. Potassium was found to be the mon predominant mineral in root, followed by calcium, phosphorus and magnesium, in a order. Contents of potassium in main and lateral root account for 194 mg% and 454 mg%, respectively. Contents of these minerals in lateral root were higher value than that in main root. Contents of ascorbic acid and total phenolics were 113.8 $\mu\textrm{g}$/g and 463 mg% in main root, 125.1 $\mu\textrm{g}$/g and 474 mg% in lateral root, respectively. Crude saponin content of main and lateral mot were high level amount, 2.51 % and 3.39 %.

Emission from biomass combustion such as meat charbroiling is an important source of organic aerosol. Since source profiles are necessary input profiles for source apportionment of aerosol by a chemical mass balance model, meat cooking organic source profiles are developed by measuring organic marker compounds, including palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid and cholesterol as well as PAH compounds. Emissions from meat and pork charbroiling are collected on quartz filters with a PM10-high volume sampler, extracted with organic solvents, derivatized with diazomethane/TMS and analyzed by GC/MS isotope dilution method. Organic and elemental carbon are also analyzed by an OCEC analyzer. Wt.% of cholesterol to the organic carbon(OC) content from beef and pork charbroiling is only 0.056 and 0.062, but wt. % of all saturated fatty acids to the OC content from beef and pork charbroiling is 2.727 and 2.022, and the wt% of all unsaturated fatty acids to the OC content is 0.278 and 0.438, respectively. Content of total PAH compounds to the OC content from beef charbroiling is higher than that from pork charbroiling, and those are 0.116 wt% and 0.044 wt%. Among PAH compounds benzo(a)pyrene as a single compound is account for 0.0071 wt% and 0.0023 wt% of OC content from beef and pork charbroiling. Ratios of marker compound to cholesterol are calculated, and those values are in good agreement with the values already reported at the food cooking emission, indicating that they can be used as organic source profiles for the apportionment of organic aerosol.
To improve the soil condition for no-tillage organic pepper cultivation, four different green manure crops were cultivated. Fertilizer supply was depended on the biomass of the cultivated green manure crops, nitrogen supplies were 314kg in Vicia villosa and 341kg $ha^{-1}$ in Vicia angustifolia. In the microbial community analyzed by phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) method, soil microbe populations were different among the green manure crops and fungi group was increased at Vicia angustifloia and Vicia villosa. The biological ratio indexes of fatty acids in the soils, the ratio of Gram-negative to Gram-positive bacterial PLFA and Ratio of aerobes to anaerobes were high at Vicia hirsute and Vicia tetrasperma suggesting the enrich of the aerobic conditions. The ratio of saturated to unsaturated fatty acids increased at Vicia angustifloia and Vicia villosa suggesting anaerobic conditions. Abundant biomass and uncomposted organic matter, the ratio of fungi to bacteria was increased at Vicia angustifloia and Vicia villosa.
During curing of aromatic tobacco leaves, coloring temperatures were set at 26, 30, 34, 38 and $42^{\circ}C$, and also leaf drying temperatures were established at 35, 40, 45, 50, 55 and $60^{\circ}C$, respectively, to investigate the thermal effect on characteristics of cured leaves. Appearance of yellow color from green was accelerated, the contents of non-volatile organic and higher fatty acids in leaves tended to increase with the higher yellowing temperature. Quality by price per kg was best at 45-$50^{\circ}C$ and score of smoking test was highest at 40-$50^{\circ}C$ during leaf drying stage. The concentrations of non-volatile organic acids and volatile essential oil inclined to decrease, but a reverse in this trend with higher fatty acids as temperature increased during leaf drying stage. The difference of other components was discussed.
This study examined the chemical composition of A. blasiliensis and the chemical structural properties of an immuno-stimulating polysaccharide. The amino acids, free sugars, and organic acids by HPLC and fatty acids by GC were analyzed. The immuno-stimulating substance from A. blasiliensis was extracted with hot water and purified by ethanol precipitation. It underwent ion exchange chromatography on DEAE-cellulose and gel filtration on Toyopearl HW 65F. Through GP-HPLC, the substance was found to be homogeneous. Its chemical structure was determined by $^{13}C-NMR$. Fatty acids, organic acids, and sugar alcohol composition consisted exclusively of linoleic acid, fumaric acid and mannitol, respectively. The amino acids were mainly glutamic acid, glycine, and arginine. By $^{13}C-NMR$ analysis, the immuno-stimulating substance was identified as ${\beta}-(1{\rightarrow}3)\;(1{\rightarrow}6)$-glucan, composed of a backbone with $(1{\rightarrow}3)$-linked D-glucopyranosyl residues branching a $(1{\rightarrow}6)$-linked D-glucopyranosyl residue. The ${\beta}$-glucan from A. blasiliensis showed pronounced immuno-stimulating activity on the antibody-production ability of B-lymphocytes by the hemolytic suspension assay. In these results, A. blasiliensis was estimated to have potent pharmacological properties and potential nutritional values.
The performance of a membrane-coupled anaerobic fermenter system for the recovery of volatile fatty acids (VFAs) from liquid organic sludge was experimentally investigated. Permeation flux was stably kept around $0.2(m^3/m^2/day)$ during operational period. The membrane-coupled fermenter showed 2.2 times higher VFAs concentration and higher VFAs forming rate than those of fermenter without membrane. The fermenter with membrane proved to be an effective system for the recovery of soluble organic materials from liquid sludge.
To establish optimal conditions for esterification by Candida cylindracea, lipase reactions were performed simultaneously, separately, or individually in the varying initial rates of $0.014-0.060\mu$mole free fatty acids consumed min-1g-1. The reactants which were conditioned at aw of 0.12 gave the highest initial rate of esterifying $0.060\mu$mole free fatty acids consumed min-1g-1. These results suggest that the esterifying activity of lipase in an organic system depends on the transfer of available water within the reaction system.
The volatile components, normal hydrocarbons, organic acids, and nonvolatile fatty acids in the various parts of Luffa cylindrica(L.) Roemer(sponge-gourd) were analyzed by GC and GC/MS. More than 150 volatile components were separated and thirty seven components were identified and quantified. The contents of essential oil were 0.05%, 0.05%, and 0.08% on a dried weight base in leaves, stem, and seeds respectively. Fruit juice and sap contained 0.06% and 0.03% oil on the fresh weight base. Twenty six components of normal hydrocarbons in leaves, stem, seed, and unripe fruit were separated, identified, and quantified. The total concentrations of the hydrocarbons were $75.5\;{\mu}g/g$ in leaf, $52.0\;{\mu}g/g$ in stem, $46.6\;{\mu}g/g$ in fruit juice, and $32.8\;{\mu}g/g$ in seed fractions. The major hydrocarbons in leaves, stem, and fruit juice were $nC_{25}$, $nC_{27}$, $nC_{29}$, and $nC_{31}$, $nC_{16}$, $nC_{17}$, $nC_{18}$, and $nC_{19}$ were abundant in seeds mainly. The concentration of malonic acid among the five organic acids was highest in leaves, stem, and flowers. Unripe fruit contained 24.5 mg/g of the five organic acids and malic and citric acids were higher. The concentrations of palmitic, linoleic, and linolenic acids were higher concentration in the various parts of sponge-gourd and palmitic acid was distributed in the most parts. The concentrations of organic and fatty acids in the sap were negligible.
