  • We report on the synthesis and film formation on a variety of small molecules such as $Alq_3$, $Znq_2$, and $Inq_3$, used as light emitting material in organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) . The organic materials are usually susceptible to environmental aging and photo-oxidation, which influences their viability for commercial utility. Here, we examine the effects of oxygen and light on these organic materials to enhance the efficiency and lifetime of OLEDs. Optical techniques - ellipsometry, photoluminescence and infrared spectroscopies- have been used to study of environmental and light induced effects on 8-hydroxyquinoline derivative metal complex small molecules thin films

  • A [TEACOOH]-Montmorillonite intercalations complex obtained from Na-Montmorillonite and 10-Carboxy-n-triethylammonium bromide was used to attempt the polymerization of ${\varepsilon}$-caprolactone between the layer spaces of the intercalations complex to achieve Montmorillonite-Polycaprolactone nanocomposites in which the inorganic material (montmorillonite) is chemically combined with the organic polymer (polycaprolactone). The results of X-ray-, IR-, and TEM-analyses for samples obtained after polymerization showed that a polycondensation reaction was successfully produced. For a more precise investigation of the polymeric reaction products the polymerized products were separated from the silicate layers and analyzed with an IR-spectrometer. A comparison of the results of the IR-analyses of the separated polymer with that of the polymer synthesized by the reaction of ${\varepsilon}$-caprolactone with only the organic cation and without montmorillonite showed that the two obtained polymers are the same compound.

  • In this research, the organic tenside R11OSO3- with long alkyl-chain was synthesized, and the intercalationscomplexes fo montmorillonite were formed by the substitution of metallic cation in the montmorilonite by the synthesized organic tenside in following two methods, and the behaviors of the tenside R11OSO3- in the interlamellar space of montmorillonite were studied udner various conditions: 1) In order to protonize the sulfate group of R11OSO3-, the H3O-Montomorillonite, which acts as acid, was synthesized. And then, the organic tenside was intercalated in the interlamellar space of this H3O-Montomorillonite. And thus, the intercalations-complex of R11S-H3O-Montomorillonite was formed. The basal spacing obtained was about 33.84$\AA$. 2) The betaine compound R11OSO3- as a neutral molecule was direct intercalated in the interlamellar space of Na-Montmorillonite under water, and the intercalations-complexes of R11S-H2O-Montmorillonite was synthesized. In this case, the based spacing of bout 23.62$\AA$ was obtained.

  • We have investigated dielectric polarization in organic light-emitting diodes using 8-hydroxyquinoline aluminum($Alq_3$) as an electron transport and emissive material. We analyzed the dielectric polarization of organic light-emitting diodes using characteristics of impedance and equivalent circuit of $ITO/Alq_3/Al$. Impedance characteristics was measured complex impedance Z and phase ${\theta}$ in the frequency range of $1{\times}40Hz\;to\;1{\times}10^8Hz$. We obtained complex electrical conductivity, dielectric constant, and loss tangent(tan${\delta}$) of the device at room temperature. And, we obtained the equivalent circuit of $ITO/Alq_3/Al$ through analyzing dielectric constant and dielectric loss tangent. From these analyses, we could interpret a conduction mechanism and dielectric polarization.

  • A film is fabricated by depositing several sliced organic ultra thin films on a slide glass. Both UV-absorbance and the capacitance of a multi - layered organic ultra thin film with (N-docosyl pyridinium)-TCNQ(1:2) complex have a desired value on the condition of well alignment in depositing several layers. Forethermore the conductivity of this film measured by the direction of either horizontal or vertical axis. respectively, is results in a quite different value.

  • The newly-developed Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley (MVP) type reagents using aluminum, boron and other metals for reduction of organic functional groups such as carbonyl and epoxy compounds have been surveyed. highlighted and reviewed in this account are the appearance of new MPV type reagents and their application to the selective reduction of organic functions. Finally, this account emphasizes the distinct contrast in the reducing characteristics existed between metal hydride reagents and MPV reagents, and compares their usefulness in organic synthesis.

  • An $ITO/Alq_3/Al$ structure was used to study complex impedance of $Alq_3$ based organic light-emitting diodes. Equivalent circuit was analyzed in a device structure of $ITO/Alq_3/Al$ with a thickness layer of $Alq_3$ of 100 nm. The obtained impedance was able to be fitted using equivalent circuit model of parallel combination of resistance $R_p$ and capacitance $C_p$ with a small series resistance of $R_s$.

  • Objectives: The concentrations and distribution characteristics of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in an industrial complex and surrouding affected residential areas were investigated in an effort to support the efficient management of VOCs. Methods: The atmospheric concentrations of VOCs were analyzed at sites around the Sihwa-Banwol complex located in the cities of Siheung and Ansan and in the surrounding affected residential areas. The appearance of VOCs and the characteristics of their temporal and spatial distribution were evaluated. Results: The total VOC concentrations in the industrial complex were detected at 1.9-2.3 times higher than in the affected areas, but the daily VOCs distributions showed similar patterns in both sites. In particular, it was confirmed that the composition ratio of the VOCs and concentration fluctuations over time in the affected areas are similar to those in the adjacent industrial complex. VOC levels in the affected areas were higher than in residential areas in cities without an industrial complex. Conclusions: VOCs in residential areas near an industrial complex were highly distributed due to the influence of continuous pollutant emissions from the industrial complex. Therefore, the management of VOCs in the atmosphere of the affected area is important for identifying and managing the sources of VOCs detected in high concentrations in the industrial complex.

  • A new combined method including the enzymatic hydrolysis of $\beta$-cyclodextrin ($\beta$-CD) and solvent extraction fo cholesterol from the hydrolyzed mixture was developed to recover cholesterol from a $\beta$-CD-cholesterol complex prepared from dairy products, such as cream, milk, and cheese. Cyclomaltodextrinase (cyclomatodextrin dextrin hydrolase, EC 3.2.1.54, DCase_ prepared form alkalophilic Bacillus sp. KJ 133 hydrolyzed the $\beta$-DC of the $\beta$-CD-cholesterol complex, and then, free cholesterol was efficiently extracted from the hydrolyzed mixture by a nonpolar solvent such as ethyl acetate. To increase the stability of free CDase, immobilized CDase was developed using sodium alginate as a carrier. The immobilized CDase showed a high recovery yield of cholesterol in a time-dependent manner compared to the free CDase. A gas chromatography analysis showed that more than 70% of cholesterol was recovered from the $\beta$-DC-cholesterol complex of cream by the immobilized CDase, whereas only 3% and 29% of cholesterol were recovered when the solvent extraction and free CDase treatment were used, respectively. The cholesterol recovered can be used as a raw material for steroid synthesis. Furthermore, this method can be an efficient way to recover cholesterol or other organic compounds that are bound in a $\beta$ -DC-cholesterol or -organic compound complex.
