The optical characteristics of transparent electrode with various kind of materials and thickness to be used for organic photovoltaic cells were studied by simulation methodology. It demonstrated that the transmittance varies with the kinds of materials, the number of layers and change in the thickness of each layer. In the case of the structure composed of dielectric/Ag/dielectric, optimized transmittance was higher than 90% at 550 nm and the thickness of the Ag layer was ~10nm. Top and bottom dielectric materials can be changed with different refractive index and extinction coefficient. The relation between the optical transmittance of device and transparent electrode with different refractive indices was discussed as well. By processing numerical simulations, an optimized optical transmittance can be obtained by tunning the thickness and materials of transparent electrode.
In this study, composite transparent electrodes were fabricated either from a conductive polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) or silver nanowire (AgNW). Three transparent electrodes such as PEDOT:PSS, PEDOT:PSS and AgNW mixture, and AgNW were fabricated. As for a transparent electrode, measured sheet resistance values were 89.6, 60.6 and 28.6 Ω/sq, and the transmittance values were 80.2, 82.0 and 83.8% while surface roughness (Rq) values were 4.1, 8.1, 20.4 nm for PEDOT:PSS, PEDOT:PSS and AgNW mixture, and AgNW, respectively. To verify the overall performance of these composite electrodes, we applied these electrodes to the top electrode of the solution-processed organic solar cells (OSCs). PEDOT:PSS provided the best performance with a fill factor (FF) of 51.2% and a photoconversion efficiency (PCE) of 2.2%, while traditional metal top electrode OSC provided FF of 60.5% and PCE of 3.1%.
Transparent and flexible electronic devices that are light-weight, unbreakable, low power consumption, optically transparent, and mechanical flexible possibly have great potential in new applications of digital gadgets. Potential applications include transparent displays, heads-up display, sensor, and artificial skin. Recent reports on transparent and flexible field-effect transistors (tf-FETs) have focused on improving mechanical properties, optical transmittance, and performances. Most of tf-FET devices were fabricated with transparent oxide semiconductors which mechanical flexibility is limited. And, there have been no reports of transparent and flexible all-organic tf-FETs fabricated with organic semiconductor channel, gate dielectric, gate electrode, source/drain electrode, and encapsulation for sensor applications. We present the first demonstration of transparent, flexible all-organic sensor based on multifunctional organic FETs with organic semiconductor channel, gate dielectric, and electrodes having a capability of sensing infrared (IR) radiation and mechanical strain. The key component of our device design is to integrate the poly(vinylidene fluoride-triflouroethylene) (P(VDF-TrFE) co-polymer directly into transparent and flexible OFETs as a multi-functional dielectric layer, which has both piezoelectric and pyroelectric properties. The P(VDF-TrFE) co-polumer gate dielectric has a high sensitivity to the wavelength regime over 800 nm. In particular, wavelength variations of P(VDF-TrFE) molecules coincide with wavelength range of IR radiation from human body (7000 nm ~14000 nm) so that the devices are highly sensitive with IR radiation of human body. Devices were examined by measuring IR light response at different powers. After that, we continued to measure IR response under various bending radius. AC (alternating current) gate biasing method was used to separate the response of direct pyroelectric gate dielectric and other electrical parameters such as mobility, capacitance, and contact resistance. Experiment results demonstrate that the tf-OTFT with high sensitivity to IR radiation can be applied for IR sensors.
We have proposed on dual-drive & -emission (DDE) panel based on organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). The device is composed on independent operation of two OLED structures with two transparent electrodes for data signals and an intermediate reflective electrode for common scan signal. Typical device structure is ITO / organic electroluminescent layer (1) /intermediate reflective electrode / organic electroluminescent layer (2) /transparent electrode. Symmetric bright emission could be obtained by applying AlNd as the intermediate reflective electrode and $MoO_3$ as a hole injection layer for upper device structure. The proposed panel is useful for emissive face-to-face panel exhibited for different images.

PEDOT [poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)] powder soluble in common organic solvent were synthesized by oxidative polymerization of EDOT (3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene) monomer using functional dopant, DEHSNa [sodium di(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate]. Transparent electrodes were made by spin casting of PEDOT/organic solvents on substrates. The electrode showed the transmittance < 90% in visible region and the surface resistance of> ${\sim}10^3\;ohm/{\square}$, respectively.
High-efficiency organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on multilayer transparent electrodes (MTEs) are reported. The dielectric/metal/dielectric (DMD) multilayer electrode based on a thin silver layer achieved high sheet conductance as small as $6{\Omega}/sp$ and a tuning capability in the optical and electrical properties by engineering the inner and outer dielectric layers. In the conventional normal bottom-emitting structure, a DMD-based OLED can be fabricated with 90% higher forward luminous efficiency and 30% higher external quantum efficiency (EQE) compared to ITO-based devices. Special attention was paid to the optimization method of such MTE structure considering both the injection and optical structures.
Aluminum-doped Zinc Oxide (AZO) is considered as an excellent candidate to replace Indium Tin Oxide (ITO), which is widely used as transparent conductive oxide (TCO) for electronic devices such as liquid crystal displays (LCDs), organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) and organic solar cells (OSCs). In the present study, AZO thin film was applied to the transparent electrode of a channel-shaped flexible organic solar cell using a low-temperature selective-area atomic layer deposition (ALD) process. AZO thin films were deposited on Poly-Ethylene-Naphthalate (PEN) substrates with Di-Ethyl-Zinc (DEZ) and Tri-Methyl-Aluminum (TMA) as precursors and $H_2O$ as an oxidant for the atomic layer deposition at the deposition temperature of $130^{\circ}C$. The pulse time of TMA, DEZ and $H_2O$, and purge time were 0.1 second and 20 second, respectively. The electrical and optical properties of the AZO films were characterized as a function of film thickness. The 300 nm-thick AZO film grown on a PEN substrate exhibited sheet resistance of $87{\Omega}$/square and optical transmittance of 84.3% at a wavelength between 400 and 800 nm.

One novel electrode-architecture has been adapted to fabricate transparent OTFTs. The device has more than 70% transmittance, yet reminds high performance. Furthermore, we also use transfer line method to prove that the device performance enhancement indeed contributes from the reduction of the contact resistances. It is anticipated that the transparent OTFTs would be very suitable to be the driving circuits for liquid crystal displays (LCDs).

Indium free consisting of three alternating layers GTO/Ag/GTO has been fabricated by radio-frequency (RF) sputtering for the applications as transparent conducting electrodes and the structural, electrical and optical properties of the gallium tin oxide (GTO) films were carefully studied. The gallium tin oxide thin films deposited at room temperature are found to have an amorphous structure. Hall Effect measurements show a strong influence on the conductivity type where it changed from n-type to p-type at $700^{\circ}C$. GTO/Ag/GTO multilayer structured electrode with a few nm of Ag layer embedded is fabricated and show the optical transmittance of 86.48% in the visible range (${\lambda}$ = 380~770 nm) and quite low electrical resistivity of ${\sim}10^{-5}{\Omega}cm$. The resultant power conversion efficiency of 2.60% of the multilayer based OPV (GAG) is lower than that of the reference commercial ITO. GTO/Ag/GTO multilayer is a promising transparent conducting electrode material due to its low resistivity, high transmittance, low temperature deposition and low cost components.
We prepared flexible transparent conducting electrodes by spray coating of single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) networks on PET substrate and have demonstrated their use as transparent anodes for flexible organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). The flexible CNT electrode produced by spray coating method shows relatively low sheet resistance ($150{\sim}220{\Omega}/sq.$) and high transmittance of ~60% even though it was prepared at room temperature. In addition, CNT electrode/PET sample exhibits little resistance change during 2000 bending cycles, demonstrated good mechanical robustness. Using transparent CNT electrode, it is readily possible to achieve performances comparable to commercial ITO-based OLEDs. This indicates that flexible CNT electrode is alternative anode materials for conventional ITO anode in flexible OLEDs.
