In earth orbit, a great number of orbital debris move around in extremely high velocity, and they become serious threats to satellites. In this study, smoothed particle hydrodynamics(SPH) is used to analyze the damage of a low earth orbit satellite due to the hypervelocity impact with orbital debris. The damage of honeycomb sandwich panel(HC/SP) used for walls of a satellite is analyzed with respect to impact velocities. For the additional analysis to examine the safety of interior components of the satellite, an attached electronic box and an offset electronic box are considered. As a result of the analysis considering the orbital debris having a probability of collision more than 2% at altitude of 685km, it is shown that the HC/SP can be perforated but only small craters are formed on both the attached electronic box and the offset electronic box.

A survivability-analysis program has been developed to analyze the ground collision risk of atmospheric reentry objects, such the upper stages of a launch vehicle or satellites, which move at or near the orbital velocity. The aero-thermodynamic load during the free fall, the temperature variation due to thermal load, and the phase shift after reaching the melting point are integrated into the 3 degree-of-freedom trajectory simulation of the reentry objects to analyze the size and weight of its debris impacting the ground. The analysis results of the present method for simple-shaped objects are compared with the data predicted by similar codes developed by NASA and ESA. Also, the analysis for actual reentry orbital objects has been performed, of which results are compared with the measurement data.
Active debris removal, a technology that approaches and removes space debris in orbit, and the on-orbit service, a technology for extending the mission life of satellites by fuel charging or by exchanging the battery, are gaining interest with the growth of the space community. SaTReC plans to develop a satellite capable of capturing and removing Korean satellites orbiting in space after the end of their missions. In contrast to the previously launched satellites by Korea, which were mainly intended to observe Earth and the space environment, rendezvous/docking technologies, as required in the future during, for instance, space exploration missions, will be implemented and demonstrated. In this paper, an orbital transition method for next-generation small satellites that will capture and remove space debris will be introduced. It is assumed that a small satellite with a mass of approximately 200 kg will be injected into the mission orbit through Korea Space Launch Vehicle-II in 2027. Because the satellite must access the target using a minimum amount of fuel, an approaching technology using Earth's J2 perturbation force has been developed. This method is expected to enable space debris removal missions for relatively lightweight satellites and to serve as the basis for carrying out a new type of space exploration in what is termed the 'Newspace' era.
We study tidal disruption and subsequent mass fallback process for stars approaching supermassive black holes on bound orbits, by performing three dimensional Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics simulations with a pseudo-Newtonian potential. We find that the mass fallback rate decays with the expected -5/3 power of time for parabolic orbits, albeit with a slight deviation due to the self-gravity of the stellar debris. For eccentric orbits, however, there is a critical value of the orbital eccentricity, significantly below which all of the stellar debris is bound to the supermassive black hole. All the mass therefore falls back to the supermassive black hole in a much shorter time than in the standard, parabolic case. The resultant mass fallback rate considerably exceeds the Eddington accretion rate and substantially differs from the -5/3 power of time. We also show that general relativistic precession is crucial for accretion disk formation via circularization of stellar debris from stars on moderately eccentric orbits.

The increasing number of orbital debris objects is a risk for satellites because of past 50 years space activities. The LEO (low earth orbit) where KOMPSAT-2 and KOMPSAT-5 are operated is including about 84% of the total space debris. Thus, the space missions need to consider the space debris. In this paper, we analysis the orbit characteristics and spatial density of space debris about KOMPSAT-2 that is in activity and KOMPSAT-5 that will be launched in 2010. Analyzed probability damage and collision with space debris are also performed. ESA MASTER2005 and of NASA DAS2.0 are used to analysis KOMPSAT mission environment. As a result, it is noted that KOMPSAT-2's collision probability was far more than KOMPSAT-5 because KOMPSAT-2's orbit has high density composed space debris.
Recently, NORAD reported that only 6% of the total space objects cataloged in the table as above 10cm objects were being operated for the space missions and the others were just non-operated objects, such as rocket body, useless satellites which were finished their missions, and other fragments of space debris. A major contributor to the orbital debris background has been object breakup. Breakups generally are caused by explosions and collisions. Several international research groups and big countries' governments are trying to develop advanced technology for de-orbiting and to design new future satellites' modeling. The future need to be considered continuously that kind of technology and designing to preserve space and global environmental safety and to maintain welfare of mankind forever.
In this paper, the lifetime of the artificial space objects in the LEO is analysed by using TLE data, which is provided by JSpOC. We observed the change of the number of space objects from 1957 and determined the reason of space debris generation. And then, we performed the analysis about present condition of space debris environment. The lifetime analysis includes a total of 11,792 artificial space objects and performed until the year 2050 by orbit propagation. We analyze the annual reentry frequency for the high RCS objects such as nonoperational satellites and rocket bodies, which have the possibility of earth ground impact through STK/Lifetime Tool for accurate and effective calculation. The results show that 9 payloads or rocket bodies will be decayed annually and 2 or 3 objects of total value have the possibility of ground impact. In addition, it is also shown that the 40% of a total analysed objects have the lifetime over 200 years.

Optical observation is one of the most common techniques used for characterizing the physical properties of unknown objects and debris in space. This research presents measurements and properties of the new object 96019 from ground-based optical methods. Optical observations of this small object were performed using a charge-coupled device (CCD) camera and the Santel-500 telescope at the Zvenigorod Observatory. The orbital elements and physical properties of this object, such as area-to-mass ratio, have been determined. The results show that this small object has a low area-to-mass ratio, between 0.009 and $0.12m^2/kg$. The light curve of object 96019 is given: Over the time intervals, variations in brightness are analyzed and the maximum brightness was found to be 12.4 magnitudes. The observational results show that, this object brightens by about three magnitudes over a time span of three minutes. Based on these observations, the characteristics and physical properties of this object are discussed.

Laser ablation propulsion(LAP) is the method to create impulse by laser ablation. It can be used to deorbit the space debris(SD), as its long-range property and versatility on any material. In this paper, we find out several requirements of the LAP system(LAPS) to deorbit the SD by simple numerical calculations of the SD orbit and laser beam flux. As a result, minimum operable altitude angle turned out to be a crucial variable to the LAPS. Moreover, if minimum operable altitude angle is 10°, and if the minimum distance between the LAPS and the SD is below 450 km, 1 m/s2 is sufficient to deorbit the SD by once. With 18 kJ/3 ns pulsed laser and cube shaped 100 kg SD, 1 m/s2 acceleration can be achieved by increasing the pulse repetition rate over 34~53 Hz, depending on the size of the SD. This capability could compare with the conceptual design of the Japan Establishment for a Power-laser Community Harvest(J-EPoCH) facility, which include 8 kJ, 5 PW@100 Hz laser.
Tidal disruption events (TDEs) provide evidence for quiescent supermassive black holes (SMBHs) in the centers of inactive galaxies. TDEs occur when a star on a parabolic orbit approaches close enough to a SMBH to be disrupted by the tidal force of the SMBH. The subsequent super-Eddington accretion of stellar debris falling back to the SMBH produces a characteristic flare lasting several months. It is theoretically expected that the bolometric light curve decays with time as proportional to $t^{-5/3}$. However, some of the observed X-ray light curves deviate from the $t^{-5/3}$ decay rate, while some of them are overall in good agreement with the $t^{-5/3}$ law. Therefore, it is required to construct the theoretical model for explaining these light curve variations consistently. In this paper, we revisit the mass fallback rates semi-analytically by taking account of the stellar internal structure, orbital eccentricity and penetration factor. We find that the mass fallback rate is shallower than the standard $t^{-5/3}$ decay rate independently of the polytropic index, and the orbital eccentricity only changes the magnitude of the mass fallback rate. Furthermore, the penetration factor significantly can modify the magnitude and variation of mass fallback rate. We confirm these results by performing the computational hydrodynamic simulations. We also discuss the relevance of our model by comparing these results with the observed light curves.
