This study was undertaken to investigate the form and position of the mandible of upper prognathism in relation to craniofacial complex.
The subjects consist of 20 males and 39 females with Class II, Division 1 malocclusion and measurements were achieved on lateral cephalograms. The results were a follows.
1. Infradentale was situated anteriorly to orbital plane, but point B, pogonion and menton were situated posteriorly.
2. Development of chin point area of female was poor than that of male.
3. In case of facial angle was large, ramus angle tend to be small, but gonial angle had tendency to be large.
The model based on the idea that the p$_y$-orbital of the carbonyl oxygen is responsible to receiving hydrogen was devised for simulation of intramolecular hydrogen transfer. A Monte Carlo method was applied to free rotation of a molecular chain performed by changing the dihedral angles, and a "hit" was defined as the case when the migrating hydrogen comes within the region defined as the p$_y$-orbital and satisfies all the geometrical requirements for abstraction. A set of parameters was employed for defining the region and the requirements; $\tau$ was defined as the angle formed between O...H vector and its projection on the mean plane of the carbonyl group (- 43$\circ$ < $\tau$ < + 43$\circ$), $\Delta$ as the C=O...H angle (90 -15$\circ$ < $\Delta$ < 90 + 15$\circ$), $\theta$ as the O...H - C angle ( 180 - 80$\circ$< 0 < 180 + 80$\circ$), d as the distance from the center of the lobe of the p$_y$-orbital to hydrogen (0 < d < 1.04 ${\AA}$). The minimum value for the distance between carbonyl oxygen (O$_1$) and the migrating hydrogen (H$_i$) and for that between non-bonded atoms except the pair of O$_1$ and H$_i$ were assumed to be 0.52 ${\AA}$ and 1.54 ${\AA}$, respectively. The apphcation of this model to intramolecular $\beta$-, $\gamma$-, $\delta$-, $\epsilon$-, and $\zeta$-hydrogen abstraction in ketones and $\eta$- and $\theta$- proton transfer in oxoesters gave good results reflecting their photochemical behavior. The model was also used for prediction of photoreactivities of 2-(N,N-dibenzylamino)ethyl 2-, 3- and 4-benzoylbenzoate (1a - c). (1a - c).
In TIG welding of pipe, back bead size monitoring is important for weld quality assurance. Many researches have been performed on estimation of the back bead size by heat conduction analysis. However numerical conduction model based on many uncertain thermal parameters causes remarkable errors and thermomechanical phenomena in molten pool can not be considered. In this paper, filler wire feeding force in addition to weld current, wire feedrate, torch travel speed and orbital position angle is monitored to estimate back bead size in orbital TIG welding. Monitored welding process variables are fed into an artificial neural network estimator which has been trained with the monitored process variables (input patterns) and actual back bead size (output patterns). Experimental verification of the proposed estimation method was performed. The predicted results are in a good agreement with the actual back bead shape. The results are quite promising in that estimation of invisible back bead shape can be achieved by analyzing the welding parameters without any conventional NDT of welds.
Background: For reconstruction of the mild to moderate medial orbital wall fractures, various surgical approaches have been used. Prior existing W-shaped incision was a direct local approach through a 3 cm incision on the superior medial orbital area with a titanium mesh implant. In this study, the authors modified W-shaped incision and reconstructed the defect with silastic sheet to improve the result and the postoperative scar. Methods: This study included 20 patients who had mild to moderate size of medial wall defect and therefore relatively suitable for reconstruction with silastic sheets from July, 2009 to December, 2011. A modified W-shaped skin incision approximately 1.2 to 1.5 cm in length was made along the superior medial orbital rim from approximately 1 cm medial to the medial canthus to the lower border of the medial eyebrow. The angles of the limbs of the W ranged from 150 to 160 degrees. Results: By using soft flexible silastic sheet, the authors reduced the incision from 3 to 1.5 cm, and by widening the angle of the W limbs, scars were more effectively hided in the relaxed skin tension line. Scar assessment was done with modified patient and observer scar assessment scale and mean score from patients was 2.08 and mean score from observers was 2.12. Conclusion: Although this method will not be suitable for every case, it can be a consistent method to obtain the surgical goal in treatment of mild to moderate blowout fractures of the medial orbital wall.
This paper finds the optimal staking sequence of the satellite composite structures to minimize severe thermal deformations during their orbital operation using GAs and finite element analyses. Then, the optimal design is reinforced to endure the launch loads like high inertia and vibratory loads that are, usually, smaller than orbital loads induced by space environments. The thermal deformation of sandwich panels was minimized at the staking sequence of [$0_2$/90]s and that of composite strut was lowest at the angle of [0/${\pm}45$]s Also there was no buckling in the compressive loading. By vibration analysis, the natural frequencies of the composite components are much higher than aluminum structures and the expected stiffness condition is satisfied. Then, a composite optical bench was fabricated for tests and all analyses results were verified by structural testing. There were good correlations between two results.
Since the discovery of iron-based superconductors in 2008, extensive and intensive studies have been performed to find the microscopic theory for the high temperature superconductivity in the materials. Electronic structure is the basic and essential information that is needed for the microscopic theory. Experimentally, angle resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) is the most direct tool to obtain the electronic structure information, and therefore has played a vital role in the research. In this review, we review what has been done so far and what is needed to be done in ARPES studies of iron-based superconductors in search of the microscopic theory. This review covers issues on the band structure, orbital order/fluctuation, and gap structure/symmetries as well as some of the theories.
In this review paper we explain the following gamma-ray emission features from the millisecond pulsars. (1) Why is the dipolar field of millisecond pulsars so weak but the magnetic pair creation process may still be able to control the size of the outergap? (2) A sub-GeV pulse component could occur in the vicinity of the radio pulse of millisecond pulsars. (3) Orbital modulated gamma-rays should exist in the black widow systems for large viewing angle.

Objective: To compare the clinical and radiological features of various etiologies of chronic diffuse lacrimal gland enlargement. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 91 consecutive patients who underwent surgical biopsy for chronic diffuse lacrimal gland enlargement and were diagnosed with non-specific dacryoadenitis (DA) (n = 42), immunoglobulin G4-related dacryoadenitis (IgG4-RD) (n = 33), and lymphoma (n = 16). Data on patient demographics, clinical presentation, and CT imaging findings (n = 73) and MRI (n = 43) were collected. The following radiologic features of lacrimal gland enlargement were evaluated: size, unilaterality, wedge sign, angle with the orbital wall, heterogeneity, signal intensity, degree of enhancement, patterns of dynamic contrast-enhanced, and apparent diffusion coefficient value. Radiological features outside the lacrimal glands, such as extra-lacrimal orbital involvement and extra-orbital head and neck involvement, were also evaluated. The clinical and radiological findings were compared among the three diseases. Results: Compared to the DA and IgG4-RD groups, the lymphoma group was significantly older (mean 59.9 vs. 46.0 and 49.4 years, respectively; p = 0.001) and had a higher frequency of unilateral involvement (62.5% vs. 31.0% and 15.2%, respectively; p = 0.004). Compared to the IgG4-RD and lymphoma groups, the DA group had significantly smaller lacrimal glands (2.3 vs. 2.8 and 3.3 cm, respectively; p < 0.001) and a lower proportion of cases with a wedge sign (54.8% vs. 84.8% and 87.5%, respectively; p = 0.005). The IgG4-RD group showed more frequent involvement of the extra-orbital head and neck structures, including the infraorbital nerve (36.4%), paranasal sinus (72.7%), and salivary gland (58.6%) compared to the DA and lymphoma groups (4.8%-28.6%) (all p < 0.005). Conclusion: Patient age, unilaterality, lacrimal gland size, wedge sign, and extra-orbital head and neck involvement differed significantly different between lymphoma, DA, and IgG4-RD. Our results will be useful for the differential diagnosis and proper management of chronic lacrimal gland enlargement.
