Objectives : This study examined the oral health behavior and dental services utilization of adolescents in order to provide information on how to disseminate the correct oral health behavior to the youth and develop programs for the approach. Methods : The raw data of 'The Third 2007 Youth Health Behavior Online Survey' carried out by the Korea Center for Disease Control and Prevention were analyzed. All survey data collected was processed using SPSS ver 17.0 for data analysis as Frequency analysis, chi-square and Logistic regression analysis. Results : 1.The adolescents who have parents with college degree are 70% higher of dental services utilization than the adolescents counterpart(whose parents don't have degrees). And also the adolescents living in cities are 1.3 times higher use of dental services than others living in countries. 2. In case of drinking soda, students having soda 4 days per week on average are 1.2 times higher use of dental services than who don't. 3.The students brushing teeth after lunch are 0.9 times lower use of dental service than who don't. And the students who have tooth ache whenever they have a meal are 1.6 times higher use of dental service than the students who don't have tooth ache. The students who had a dental health education are 1.4 times higher utilization of dental service than who don't. The difference of using dental service between the students who have gum disease and halitosis and the students who don't is almost none. 4. The students who drink alcohol and smoke 10 days more or less a month are 0.8 ~ 0.9 times lower use of dental service than who don't. Conclusions : The rate of utilizing dental service is higher at students who live with parents having college degrees and the more have oral health behavior, the less use of dental service for treatment. We concluded that more educational program should be developed and vitalized so that students can have oral health.
The aim of this research was to analyze the differences for the oral health status of the elderly people living in the long-term care facilities and the non-resident elderly. The study was conducted on 469 elderly people of the same age, gender and basic living conditions. Elderly residing in long-term care facilities had higher dental caries prevalence(p=0.019), DT(p=0.001), and MT(p=0.047) than non-resident elderly, and had lower FT(p<0.001) than non-resident elderly. The elderly living in facilities were 1.93 times more likely to be caries than non-residents, and 0.73 times more likely to have a filled tooth. The probability of denture use was 0.15 times for the maxillary and 0.13 times for the mandibular. The probability of denture needs was 5.61 times for the maxillary and 5.65 times for the mandibular. All of these results showed significant differences. As a result of this, it can be used as basic data for establishing oral health policy for oral health promotion of the elderly living in Long-term care facilities.

Regular dental visit of disabled patients is an important strategy for maintenance of oral health because of the lack of awareness of oral care. But there is limited information about follow up period in disabled patients after dental treatment. The aim of this study was to investigate the pattern of dental visit and dental management of special care needs patients according to the types of disabilities. A total of 140 patients who received dental treatment at Seoul National University Dental Hospital from 2010 to 2012 were reviewed. Patients were divided 3 groups according to the types of disabilities (disorder of external physical function, disorder of internal organ, psychic disability). Patient's characteristic, dental treatment performed, follow up period and frequency were investigated. The mean follow up period was 28.2 months and average frequency of visit was 3.69 times per year. There was no difference in period and annual visit between 3 groups, but significantly difference in cooperation with medical hospital in affiliation. Regular check-up was the most common dental treatment in all groups. In psychic disorder group, the proportion of sedative treatment was significantly higher than other groups. The results of this study provide information necessary for treatment planning and dental management of disabled patients.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the responses of 5,824 adults(2,574 males and 3,250 females over the age of 19 years) using raw data from the 7th period of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey to investigate the relationship between systemic disease activity restriction and oral health. There were many systemic disease activity restrictions in adults with oral chewing and speaking problems, and it was statistically significant(p<.001). Factors influencing activity restriction due to systemic disease include age(odds ratio 1.03), Male(odds ratio 0.84), education level(odds ratio 0.57, 0.45, 0.31), drinking(odds ratio 1.38), chewing(odds ratio 1.86) and speaking(odds ratio 1.84) problems. There was a higher probability of activity restriction due to systemic disease when they received treatment for periodontal disease(odds ratio 1.27) and broken teeth(odds ratio 2.1). Also, it was statistically significant that the quality of life decreased when there was chewing and speaking problems.

The burden of cancer is growing globally and is one of the top leading causes of death. Information on cancer patterns are essential for effective planning of cancer control interventions. There is limited published information available on pattern of cancer for the state of Odisha, India. The present study was an attempt to explore the pattern and trend of cancer in Odisha. To fulfill the objectives retrospective data available from 2001-2011 at Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Center (AHRCC), Cuttack, Odisha, were analyzed. Medical records of cancer patients were reviewed and relevant information on diagnosis, primary site and demographic data were retrieved. Data were entered and analyzed using SPSS 16.0 (SPSS Inc.). A total of 74,861 cancer inpatients were registered at AHRCC for the years 2001-2011. The proportion of females outnumbered males with female:male ratio 1.1:1. The number of female cases increased four folds and that of males three fold over the period studied. Malignancies such as oral cancer (16.93%), acute lymphocytic leukemia/non Hodgkins lymphoma (14.09%) and cancer of gastrointestinal tract (21.07%) are leading cancers among males and carcinomas of breast (28.94%), cervix (23.66%) and ovary (16.11%) were leading among females. Findings from this study indicate an overall increase in cancer reporting which could be regarded as proxy measure for overall cancer situation in Odisha. There is scope and need for integrating other government hospitals, existing private health service providers and research institutions across the state for better planning of cancer control program.
