Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between consumption of sweet drinks and foods with accompanying oral hygiene health behaviors, and their condition of oral hygiene rural residents who are expected to have relatively poor oral hygiene compared to their urban counterparts. Methods: The 384 subjects, who are aged over 40 and have taken dental examination by dentists in health branches in 6 Myouns, Kongju city, Chungchongnamdo Province during the period between June 1st through 31st, 2004, were asked about dental health behaviors and subjective symptoms using questionnaires. Results and Conclusions: Based on dental health behavior according to sweet beverage and food, the dental health behavior was desirable in both sexes for 'almost daily drink' concerning sweet beverages and 'almost never eat' concerning sweet food, with no statistical significance. As for oral conditions, the groups who responded to 'almost daily drink/eat' for sweet beverages and food had the highest rate of non-treated teeth, lost teeth, DMFT and CPITN, with no statistical significance. Multiple logistic regression analysis with the consumption frequency of sweet foods as explanatory variables and 5 factors of oral conditions as dependent variables, revealed that there was no statistical significance in the oral conditions according to the consumption frequency of sweet drinks while, as for sweet drinks, there was a significant difference to the group who answered as 'occasional gum bleeding' in the case of 'almost daily eat.' responders(OR= 2.33, 95% CI=1.42-3.81, p<0.05).
The purpose of this study was to obtain baseline data for developing oral health education program. The questionaire about oral health knowledge and behaviors were given to 1419, 12 year-old children who lived in Seongnam City. The results were obtained as follows; 1) Of respondents, 46.2% visited dental offices within a year. And 33% of them were for the purpose of routine examinations and prevention. 2) 67.1% of them exhibited toothbrushing before bedtime and only 11.3% and 8.9% of them toothbrushed after between-meal intake and lunch. 3) 47.7% of them experienced dental health education programs and 72.3% of the programs had been during elementary school days. 4) 56.2% of them chose dentifrices without standards and 21.6% of them considered the presence of fluoride. 5) Of respondents, 57.4% and 46.4% knew the importances of toothbrushing and dietary pattern. But only 18.7% and 8.5% of them knew the methods of using fluoride and scaling. 6) 33% of them replied negatively to the probabilities of preventing dental caries. 7) Also, it is necessary to expand the oral health education programs for 12 year-old children in Seongnam City and include the annual screening dental examination, toothbrushing, dentifrice selection, using fluoride and scaling.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between senile eye diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), glaucoma and oral health behaviors. Data from the Seventh Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES VII-2) were used to analyze oral health behaviors according to the presence of AMD and glaucoma. Demographics and oral behaviors were analyzed using the complex chi-square test and complex logistic regression to compare participants with AMD and glaucoma with those without AMD and glaucoma. According to the presence or absence of AMD and glaucoma, there were statistically significant differences in age, education level, oral care product use, and difficulty in speaking variables. The results of this study provide evidence of a significant association in some variables between oral behaviors and senile eye diseases.

This study performed an investigation to determine the impact of the oral health status and oral health behavior of pregnant women on quality of life and analyzed the results. The data was tested using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test for the key measuring parameters by using PASW Statistics 18.0. There were significant differences in subjective oral health status and oral health interest had significant differences depending on the period of in pregnancy. 46.5% of surveyed subjects considered themselves as 'healthy', and 51.2% considered their oral health status was 'healthy' while 57.5 responded they were interested in the oral health. As for the quality of life according to the oral health behaviors, when the subjects did not have any experience of receiving oral health education, when the tooth brushings were ${\leq}3$ times, when they had not received examination on a regular basis, and when they had no experience of scaling, the quality of life was very low. Significant impact variables on the OHIP-14 include longer pregnancy term, no experience of childbirth, subjective health status and poorer subjective oral health status, and the low health-related quality of life. In this study, it was considered as necessary to develop improved oral health education programs because the oral health-related quality of life was closely associated with oral health and oral health behaviors perceived subjectively.

Methods: The survey was conducted using selfadministered questionnaires targeting 619 female students majoring in dental hygiene at three Universities in k and J province. The stronger health oral belief means higher score in susceptibility, severity, benefit and salience, but the higher score in barrier means stronger recognition in obstacle. Results: There was significant correlation between susceptibility and experience of not-treated oral disease (OR [odds ratio] 2.40; 95% CI [confidence interval] 1.73-3.34)' and 'dental caries (OR 2.36; 95% CI 1.25-4.45)'. Benefit had significant correlation with 'visiting dental clinic (OR 1.58; 95% CI 1.14-2.19)'. Salience had significant correlation with 'experience of not-treated oral disease (OR 0.70; 95% CI 0.52-0.94)'. Barrier had significant correlation with 'visiting dental clinic (OR 0.73; 95% CI 0.56-0.95)' and 'removing oral plaque (OR 0.71; 95% CI 0.52-0.95)'. There was no significant correlation between oral health belief and 'using of oral hygiene device' or 'regular tooth brushing'. Conclusions: Diverse oral health behaviors were affected by susceptibility, benefit, salience and barrier in oral health belief. The programs for oral health education and preventing oral disease should be prepared to change oral health belief to promote the oral health systematically based on the results of this study.
The purpose of this study is to provide a set of fundamental data for the oral hygiene education for the elderly as a result of the survey on the oral hygiene and subjective oral health of the elderly in an aged society. For this purpose, 269 elders who dwelled in Gyeongsangbuk-do region were randomly selected in an arbitrary selection process, followed by a survey on their oral hygiene and health. The collected data were coded and processed by using SPSS 15.0 software. As for the analysis of the data, the general characteristics and the basic items concerning the management of the oral health were analyzed for their frequency and percentages, while the general characteristics and the awareness on the oral health were processed with Chi-square validation to show a set of results as follows; Firstly, among the items on the oral health, the satisfaction on the current condition of their oral health was below average. Secondly, concerning the oral hygienic behaviors, the majority of the samples answered that they were brushing their teeth twice a day. And, as for the brushing methods, the largest number of the samples answered that they were brushing their teeth in a 'horizontal direction'.
