  • Hydroxyethyl cellulose -based-viscosity modifying admixture and melamine-basd-superplasticizer were selected to be admixtures for self-compacting concrete based on the test results of fluidity and air content of mortar using 3 different viscosity modifying admixtures. The experimental results show that the initial and final set of self-compacting concrete and fly ash concrete with viscosity modifying admixture only have been delayed approximately 5 hours and 8~9 hours, respectively. It is found that the optimum dosage of viscosity modifying admixtures, coarse aggregate and cement content are 0.2% of water content, under 742 kg/$\textrm{m}^3$ and over 364 kg/$\textrm{m}^3$, respectively. Test results also show that the optimum fly ash in replacement of cement is 10% of cement weight for the enhancement of fluidity and long-term strength.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the influences of cultural conditions of koji on the production of organic acid during rice-koji making by Aspergillus awamori var. kawachii which is now widely used as koji-mold in brewing Takju and Yakju in Korea. The optimum temperature for the germination of the conidia of the mold was 35'8, and the time required for germination at this temperature was 8 hours. Rapid germination occurred when the water content of steamed rice was above 40%, but germination retardation occurred markedly below 35%. The optimum cultural temperature for the production of organic acid was 32$^{\circ}C$, and the production of organic acid was markedly restricted at 36$^{\circ}C$ and 4$0^{\circ}C$. It was effective for the high production of both saccharogenic amylase and organic acid to shift the cultural temperature from initial 36$^{\circ}C$ to 32$^{\circ}C$ after 20~25 hours of cultivation. Initial water content suitable to the production of organic acid was 40% in steamed rice, but its production was markedly restricted below 30% of water content. When the quantity of conidial inoculation was too small, the production of organic acid was low in initial phase, but it was retrived at later period. Acid production was markedly restricted together with the increase in koji thickness.

  • To evaluate the influence of slag on the alkalinity of pore solution and microstructure of concrete, this paper performs a leaching experiment on hardened cement-slag pastes (HCSP) slice specimens with different slag content in purified water. The pH value of pore solution, average porosity, morphology, phase composition and Ca/Si of HCSP specimens in the leaching process are measured by solid-liquid extraction, saturated-dried weighing, scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectrometry (SEM-EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Results shows that the addition of slag can mitigate an increase in porosity and a decrease in Ca/Si of HCSP in the leaching process. Besides, an appropriate slag content can improve the microstructure so as to obtain the optimum leaching resistance of HCSP, which can guarantee the suitable alkalinity of pore solution to prevent a premature corrosion of reinforced bar. The optimum slag content is 40% in HCSP with a water-binder ratio of 0.45, and an excessive slag causes a significant decrease in the alkalinity of pore solution, resulting in a loss of protection on reinforced bar in HCSP.

  • Response surface methodology (RSM) in combination with a 17-run central composite design (CCD) was applied to optimize the non-catalytic hydrolysis of lard using subcritical water to produce fatty acids (FA). The effects of three variables including temperature, molar ratio of water to oil and time, and their relationship on FA content were investigated. A quadratic regression model was employed to predict the FA contents. Optimum reaction conditions for maximizing the FA content were obtained as follows: reaction temperature of $288.5^{\circ}C$, molar ratio of water to oil of 39.5 and reaction time of 29.5 min. Under the optimum conditions, the predicted and experimentally obtained FA contents were 97.06% and 96.99%, respectively.

  • Inorganic ions and water are major components of ambient fine particles. Water content in fine particles is mainly determined by ambient meteorological conditions and the concentrations of hygroscopic species such as inorganic ions. Thus, to reduce fine particle mass concentration, it is important to accurately estimate the relationship between water content and the concentration of ions in fine particles. Water content in fine particles in Seoul are estimated by using a gas/particle equilibrium model to understand the characteristics of fine particle mass concentration. In addition, sensitivity of fine particle mass concentration to the changes of particulate ionic species (sulfate, nitrate, and ammonium) is estimated. It was found that water content in Seoul is mostly determined by the concentrations of the hygroscopic ionic species, especially, sulfate and ammonium, and ambient relative humidity.

  • Hydraulic conductivity of soil-cement was measured as a function of some selected construction variables that are often encountered in practice. They are initial (or compaction) water content, delayed compaction after mixing, and repeated freezing and thawing. Sandy and clayey soils were used. The hardening agent used was a cement based soil stabilizer consisting of 80% of ordinary Portland cement and 20% of a combination of supplementary materials. Hydraulic conductivity of soil-cement with varying initial water content was, in trend, similar to that of compacted clay. Hydraulic conductivity of soil-cement decreased with increasing initial water content and reached its minimum when compacted wet of optimum water content. Pore size distributions of soil cement at different initial water contents were analyzed using mercury intrusion porosimetry. The analysis showed that dryer condition led to the formation of larger pores with lesser total pore volume; smaller pores with larger total pore volume at wetter condition. Hydraulic conductivity of soil-cement increased by orders in magnitude when specimen underwent delayed compaction of longer than 4 hours after mixing and repeated freezing and thawing.

  • In this study, to determine characteristics of compaction and the soil water characteristic curve(SWCC) in decomposed granitic soils, compaction tests and SWCC tests were carried out for samples having various contents of coefficient of uniform($c_u$), By compacting their samples with standard Proctor density test, the effects of binder contents on maximum dry density and optimum moisture content were investigated and compared. Samples compacted with the maximum dry density and the optimum moisture content were tested by means of the SWCC, to determine their SWCC parameters, such as Brooks & Corey(${\lambda}$, ${\Psi}_b$), Van Genuchten (${\alpha}$, n, m), Fredlund & Xing(a, n, m).

  • This thesis is an experimental research of shear behavioral characteristics and shear behavioral coefficient of weathered residual soil which is mostly contained in soil of Korea. Using the weathered residual soil from mountain near Kangwon National University, this experimental research were contained the physical properties of sample in term of the basic test method such as specific gravity, plastic and liquid limit, grain-size distribution, density and water content. Experimental results obtained from direct shear test sand triaxial compression tests show that according to step loading, linear strain and linear stress increase continually and angle of internal friction decreases just little according to incresing of water content in case of ignoring the cohesion, and angle of internal friction appears the maximum angle near a optimum moisture content in case of considering the cohesion.

  • The synthesis of lauryl palmitate from palmitic acid and lauryl alcohol was investigated in organic solvents using lipase. Water-immiscible organic solvent such as hexane, toluenem cyclohexane, and isooctane were found to be suitable of ester synthesis . The effect of water content on the initial rate of conversion was examined . As the content increased, the reaction rate increased. But addition of water in organic solvent decreased therostability of enzyme . The best lauryl palmitate synthesis was achieved with water content of 0.2-0.4% reaction temperature of 4$0^{\circ}C$ and 45$^{\circ}C$ for Candida cylindracea lipase porcine, pancreatic lipase, respectively. when ester synthesis was carried out under the optimum conditions, the conversion yield of palmitate into lauryl palmitate after 70hrs reached 85% and 69 % for the Candida cylindracea lipase and porcine opancreatic lipase, respectivley.
