  • This paper presents a new optimization technique of acceleration curve for dynamic structure's movement in which high speed and low vibration are desirable. This technique is based on a genetic algerian with a penalty function for acceleration optimization under the assumption that an initial profile of acceleration curves constitutes the first generation of the genetic algorithm. Especially the penalty function consists of the violation of constraints and the number of violated constraints. The optimized acceleration of the crane through the genetic algorithm and commercial dynamic analysis software has shown to have accurate movement and low vibration compared to the conventional accelerations with jerk discontinuity.

  • In this paper, optimum shape design of permanent magnet in slotted type Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor(PMLSM) is progressed for minimization of detent force owing to structure of slot-teeth and thrust ripple by harmonic magnetic flux of permanent magnet. In order to reduce remodeling time as changing design parameter for Permanent Magnet shape optimization, the moving model node technique was applied. The characteristics of thrust and detent force computed by finite element analysis are acquired equal effect both skewed basic model and optimum model which is optimization of permanent magnet shape. In addition to, thrust per unit volume is improved 4.l2[%] in optimum model.

  • Although the power density in Double Stator Switched Reluctance Motor (DSSRM) has been improved, the torque ripple is still very high. So, it is important to reduce the torque ripple for specific applications such as Electric Vehicles (EVs). In This paper, an effective rotor shaping optimization technique for torque ripple reduction of DSSRM is presented. This method leads to the lower torque pulsation without significant reduction in the average torque. The method is based on shape optimization of the rotor using Finite Element Method and Taguchi's optimization method for rotor reshaping for redistribution of the flux so that the phase inductance profile has smoother variation as the rotor poles move into alignment with excited stator poles. To check on new design robustness, mechanical analysis was used to evaluate structural conformity against local electromagnetic forces which cause vibration and deformation. The results show that this shape optimization technique has profound effect on the torque ripple reduction.

  • In this paper, a new technique for electromagnetic topology optimization is proposed. The proposed technique is based on the large-step Markov chain (LSMC) method with novel local optimization algorithm. Because the proposed algorithm keeps a good convergence characteristic of LSMC, fast convergence is assured. The proposed LSMC is verified by an application to an inverse reconstruction problem.

  • The systematic optimal tuning of power system stabilizers (PSSs) using the dynamic embedded optimization (DEO) technique is described in this paper. A hybrid system model which has the differential-algebraic-impulsive-switched (DAIS) structure is used as a tool for the DEO of PSSs. Two numerical optimization methods, which are the steepest descent and Broyden-Fletcher-Goldfarb-Shanno (BFGS) algorithms, are investigated to implement the DEO using the hybrid system model. As well as the gain and time constant of phase lead compensator, the output limits of PSSs with non-smooth nonlinearities are considered as the parameters to be optimized by the DEO. The simulation results show the effectiveness and robustness of the PSSs tuned by the proposed DEO technique on the IEEE 39 bus New England system to mitigate system damping.

  • This paper introduces an optimal design technique for a 250-watt isolation transformer using a recently developed optimization method, dynamic encoding algorithm for searches(DRAS). Although the optimal design technique for transformers dates back to 1970s and local optimization is often undertaken using FEM nowadays, literature concerning global optimization of transformer cores is rarely found against its importance. In this paper, a small isolation transformer is used as a model to be optimized with application of DEAS to corresponding mathematical description. The optimization result confirms that DEAS can be successfully employed to design transformer cores for various design specifications only by changing cost functions.

  • Buildings are mostly under part load conditions causing an inefficient system operation in terms of energy consumption. It is critical to operate building air-conditioning system with a scientific or optimal manner which minimizes energy consumption and maintains thermal comfort by matching building sensible and latent loads. Little research has been performed in developing general methodologies for the optimal operation of air-conditioning system. Based on this research motivation, system simulation program was developed by adopting various equipment operating strategies which are energy efficient especially for humidity control in summer. A numerical optimization technique was utilized to search optimal solution for multi-independent variables and then linked to the developed system simulation model within a mam program. The main goal of the study is to provide a systematic framework and guideline for the optimal operation of air-conditioning system focusing on air-side. For given cooling loads and ambient outdoor conditions the optimal operating strategies of a commercial building are determined by minimizing a constrained objective function by a nonlinear programming technique. Desired space setpoint conditions were found through evaluating the trade-offs between comfort and system power consumption. The results show that supply airflow rate and compressor fraction play main roles in the optimization process. It was found that variable setpoint optimization technique could produce lower indoor humidity level demanding less power consumption which will be benefits for building applications of humidity problem.

  • A method of identifying structural parameters such as stiffness and damping coefficients at interfacial points of vibro-acoustic systems is suggested using an optimization technique. To identify the parameters using a numerical optimization algorithm, cost functions are defined. The cost function should be zero at the correct parameter values. To minimize the cost functions using an optimization technique, a design sensitivity analysis procedure is developed in the framework of the multi-domain FRF-based substructuring method. As a numerical example, a ladder-like structure problem is introduced. With known parameter values and different initial guesses of the parameters, convergence characteristics to the exact value are compared f3r the three cost functions. Investigating the contours of the cost functions, we find the first cost function has the largest convergent region to the correct value. As another practical problem, stiffnesses of engine mounts and bushings in a passenger car are identified. The numerical examples show that the proposed method is efficient and accurate far realistic problems.
