  • The final polishing process is based on slurry, pad, conditioner, equipment. Therefore, the concept of wafer final polishing is also necessary for repeatability of results between polished wafers. In this study, the machining conditions have a pressure, table speed, machining time and slurry ratio. This research investigated the surface characteristics that apply variable machining conditions and response surface methodology was used to obtain more flexible and optimumal condition base on Taguchi method. On the base of estimated response surface curvature from the equation and results of Taguchi method, combined design of experiment was considered to lead to optimumal condition. Finally, polished wafer was obtained mirror like surface.

  • The spindle is the main component in machine tools. The static and dynamic stiffness of the spindle directly affect the machining productivity and surface integrity of the workpiece. The static and dynamic stiffness of the spindle depend on the shaft size, bearing arrangement, bearing span length, and so on. Therefore, the selection of shaft size and bearing span length are important to improve the spindle stiffness. This paper presents the determination of shaft size and bearing span length in spindle design step. In order to select the optimal bearing and built-in motor locations with constraint conditions, the extreme vertices design was applied. The results show that extreme vertices design is usable for spindle design with design constraints.

  • To enhance the precision and productivity of ultra precision aspheric surface micro lens, the development of ultra-precision grinding system and process for the aspheric surface micro lens are described. In the work reported in this paper, an ultra-precision grinding system for manufacturing the aspheric surface micro lens was developed by considering the factors affecting the grinding surface roughness and profile accuracy. This paper deals with mirror grinding of an aspheric surface micro lens by resin bonded diamond wheel and spherical lens of BK7. The optimization of grinding conditions on ground surface roughness and profiles accuracy is investigated using the design of experiments.

  • This paper has focused on the optimization of the cutting parameters for turning operation based on the Taguchi method. Four cutting parameters, namely, cutting speed, feed, depth of cut and nose radius are optimized with consideration of the surface roughness. The design and analysis of experiments are conducted to study the performance characteristic. The effects of these parameters on the surface roughness have been investigated using the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio, analysis of variance (ANOVA). The experiments have been peformed using coated tungsten carbide inserts without any cutting fluid. Experimental results illustrate the effectiveness of this approach.

  • In the face of global competition, the requirements fer the continuously increasing productivity, flexibility and quality (dimensional accuracy, mechanical properties and surface properties) have imposed a major change on steel manufacturing industries. The automation of hot rolling process requires the developments of several mathematical models for simulation and quantitative description of the industrial operations involved. To achieve this objectives, a new loaming method with neural network to improve the accuracy of rolling force prediction in hot rolling mill is developed. Also, Genetic Algorithm(GA) is applied to select the optimal structure of the neural network and compared with that of engineers experience. It is shown from this research that both structure selection methods can lead to similar results.

  • Purpose: CLIMEX, a species distribution modeling tool, includes various types of parameters representing climatic conditions; the estimation of these parameters directly determines the model accuracy. In this study, we investigated the sensitivity of parameters for the climatic suitability calculated by CLIMEX for Metcalfa pruinosa in South Korea. Methods: We first changed 12 parameters and identified the three significant parameters that considerably affected the CLIMEX simulation response. Results: The result indicated that the simulation was highly sensitive to changes in lower optimal temperatures, lower soil moisture thresholds, and cold stress accumulation rate based on the sensitivity index, suggesting that these were the fundamental parameters to be used for fitting the simulation into the actual distribution. Conclusion: Sensitivity analysis is effective for estimating parameter values, and selecting the most important parameters for improving model accuracy.

  • The early phase of construction projects, communication among the related participants has great influence on the further transaction of the projects. However, important decision making are made by the experience of the field managers in practice without the method for systematic analysis. For example, in building construction project, selection process for construction method has been executed by decision making of some architects dependent on their experience. As a result, there have been frequent construction method alterations during the construction process and delay of duration, addition of cost, etc have followed accordingly. The main reasons of such a mal-functional transaction are due to the absent of the reasonal procedure of decision making reflecting the characteristics of construction project. Therefore, there is a need for an supporting tool and production design for the selection of rational construction method. The objective of this study is to propose production design process and decision making model in relation to various influent factors at the early phase of construction projects. To achieve these objectives, this study 1)analyzes the prior theory about production design, 2)we have studied about selection process for optimal construction method through constraint analysis in structural works, 3)performs a case study to embody the problems of the production design, and 4)proposes a cooperative committee model for supporting production design by analyzing the results of case study and interviewing experts. It is anticipated that the effective tool of proposed model would be able to improve communication among the related participants and systematically accumulate data that might be used in similar construction projects.

  • In the satellite operation phase, a ground station should continuously monitor the status of the satellite and sends out a tasking order, and a satellite should transmit data acquired in the space to the Earth. Therefore, the communication between the satellites and the ground stations is essential. However, a satellite and a ground station located in a specific region on Earth can be connected for a limited time because the satellite is continuously orbiting the Earth, and the communication between satellites and ground stations is only possible on a one-to-one basis. That is, one satellite can not communicate with plural ground stations, and one ground station can communicate with plural satellites concurrently. For such reasons, the efficiency of the communication schedule directly affects the utilization of the satellites. Thus, in this research, considering aforementioned unique situations of spacial communication, the mixed integer programming (MIP) model for the optimal communication planning between multiple satellites and multiple ground stations (MS-MG) is proposed. Furthermore, some numerical experiments are performed to verify and validate the mathematical model. The practical example for them is constructed based on the information of existing satellites and ground stations. The communicable time slots between them were obtained by STK (System Tool Kit), which is a well known professional software for space flight simulation. In the MIP model for the MS-MG problems, the objective function is also considered the minimization of communication cost, and ILOG CPLEX software searches the optimal schedule. Furthermore, it is confirmed that this study can be applied to the location selection of the ground stations.

  • Calibration curves are essential in quantitative methods and for improving the accuracy of analyte measurements in biological samples. In this study, a statistical analysis model built in the R language (The R Foundation for Statistical Computing) was used to identify a set of weighting factors and regression models based on a stepwise selection criteria. An LC-MS/MS method was used to detect the presence of urinary methamphetamine, amphetamine, and 11-nor-9-carboxy-Δ9 -tetrahydrocannabinol in a sample set. Weighting factors for the calibration curves were derived by calculating the heteroscedasticity of the measurements, where the presence of heteroscedasticity was determined via variance tests. The optimal regression model and weighting factor were chosen according to the sum of the absolute percentage relative error. Subsequently, the order of the regression model was calculated using a partial variance test. The proposed statistical analysis tool facilitated selection of the optimal calibration model and detection of methamphetamine, amphetamine, and 11-nor-9-carboxy-Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol in urine. Thus, this study for the selection of weighting and the use of a complex regression equation may provide insights for linear and quadratic regressions in analytical and bioanalytical measurements.
