Microminiature heat exchanger has been applied to the gas turbine in order to increase energy efficiency. During the production of microminiature heat exchanger, however, it is very difficult to weld tube to tubesheet. In this study, therefore, welding process of resistance ring projection was used, and weld tensile tests were performed. Sound weld joint was obtained as a result of applying resistance ring projection welding to microminiature heat exchanger to tubesheet. Cold weld occurred at under 1600A. Even though tensile strength was increased with increasing current, splash occurred and tensile strength decreased at 2000A due to the excessive current. Therefore it was determine that the optimal current is 1900A. As result of tensile tests based on ASME code for tube to tubesheet weldment, rupture position was weldment due to Fs(Fractured section) of nugget, which was smaller than tube thickness (t), and it was proven as a partial strength welding because of the average joint efficiency fr = 0.90.
Recently, production and use of freon substances are restrained due to depletion of ozone layer and global warming. In this aspect of environmental problems, the best solution is to use the natural refrigerant such as ammonia. Thus, this study is to find the optimal operating conditions by comparing the performance between the shell and tube type and shell and disk type heat exchangers using the ammonia refrigerant, and to verify the superiority of the shell and disk type heat exchanger that is not used in field of refrigeration and air conditioning. Finally, this study shows that the shell and disk type heat exchanger is applicable to the ammonia refrigeration system, and this system minimizes the refrigerant charge and installation space.

In this study, we evaluate the thermal-hydraulic performance and economics of Printed Circuit Heat Exchanger (PCHE) according to the channel types and associated shape variables for the design of recuperators with Sodium-cooled Fast Reactors (SFRs). To perform the evaluations with variables such as the Reynolds number, channel types, tube diameter, and shape variables, a code for the heat exchanger is developed and verified through a comparison with experimental results. Based on the code, the volume and pressure drop are calculated, and an economic assessment is conducted. The zigzag type, which has bending angle of 80° and a tube diameter of 1.9 mm, is the most economical channel type in a SFR using CO2 as the working fluid. For a SFR using N2, we recommend the airfoil type with vertical and horizontal numbers of 1.6 and 1.1, respectively. The airfoil type is superior when the mass flow rate is large because the operating cost changes significantly. When the mass flow rate is small, volume is a more important design parameter, therefore, the zigzag type is suitable. In addition, we conduct a sensitivity analysis based on the production cost of the PCHE to identify changes in optimal channel types.

Two strains S-P and S-P-2, both Streptomyces sp., have been isolated and were found to have relatively high specific enzyme activity compared to other organisms reported. The specific activity of the enzyme produced from these two strains were 0.25 and 0.2 international units respectively. The productivity of the enzyme achieved was about 50 IU/l/hr. Glucose isomerase form these strains was found to be stable under the temperature of heat treatment (at $65^{\circ}C$) for fixation of enzyme inside the dell. This organism has an advantage in that it did not require toxic metalic ion for enzyme activity and could utilize xylan in leu of xylose as an inducer. The optimal temperature and pH of enzymatic reaction purpose of using these data for the optimal operation and designing of enzyme reactor system. The reaction mechanism was found to follow the single substrate reversible reaction kinetics. The kinetic constants determined experimentally are : $K_{mf}=0.33M,\;K_{mb}=1.0M,\;V_{mf}=0.88{\mu}mole\;per\;min.,\;V_{mb}= 2.96{\mu}mole\;per\;min.\;and\;K_{eq}=0.74.

Upon direct/indirect exposure to flame or heat, composite structures may burn or thermally buckle. This issue becomes more important in the natural fiber-based composite structures with higher flammability and lower mechanical properties. The main goal of the present study was to obtain an optimal eco-friendly composite system with low flammability and high thermal buckling resistance. The studied composite consisted of polypropylene (PP) and short abaca fiber (AF) with eggshell powder (ESP) and halloysite clay nanotubes (HNTs) additives. An optimal base composite, consisting of 30 wt.% AF and 70 wt.% PP, abbreviated as OAP, was initially introduced based on burning rate (BR) and the Young's modulus determined by horizontal burning test (HBT) and tensile test, respectively. The effects of adding ESP to the base composite were then investigated with the same experimental tests. The results indicated that though the BR significantly decreased with the increase of ESP content up to 6 wt.%, it had a very destructive influence on the stiffness of the composite. To compensate for the damaging effect of ESP, small amount of HNT was used. The performance of OAP composite with 6 wt.% ESP and 3 wt.% HNT (OAPEH) was explored by conducting HBT, cone calorimeter test (CCT) and tensile test. The experimental results indicated a 9~23 % reduction in almost all flammability parameters such as heat release rate (HRR), total heat released (THR), maximum average rate of heat emission (MARHE), total smoke released (TSR), total smoke production (TSP), and mass loss (ML) during combustion. Furthermore, the combination of 6 wt.% ESP and 3 wt.% HNT reduced the stiffness of OAP to an insignificant amount by maximum 3%. Moreover, the char residue analysis revealed the distinct differences in the formation of char between AF/PP and AF/PP/ESP/HNT composites. Afterward, dilatometry test was carried out to examine the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of OAP and OAPEH samples. The obtained results showed that the CTE of OAPEH composite was about 18% less than that of OAP. Finally, a theoretical model was used based on first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) to predict the critical bucking temperatures of the OAP and OAPEH composite plates. It was shown that in the absence of mechanical load, the critical buckling temperatures of OAPEH composite plates were higher than those of OAP composites, such that the difference between the buckling temperatures increased with the increase of thickness. On the contrary, the positive effect of CTE reduction on the buckling temperature decreased by raising the axial compressive mechanical load on the composite plates which can be assigned to the reduction of stiffness after the incorporation of ESP. The results of present study generally stated that a suitable combination of AF, PP, ESP, and HNT can result in a relatively optimal and environmentally friendly composite with proper flame and thermal buckling resistance with no significant decline in the stiffness.
A lactic acid bacterium LAB3113, isolated from traditionally fermented Kimchi was found to produce bacteriocin whose activity was very specific toward lactobacilli and not effective against any other bacteria. Lactobacilli affected by the inhibitory substance included Lactobacillus delbrueckii-lactis, L. johnsonii, L. gsseri, and L. curvatus. Based upon biochemical and physiological characteristics, LAB3113 was classified as Lactococcus lactis, and its bacteriocin was named as lactococcin K3113. Lactococcus lactis. LAB3113 produced bacteriocin at th early stage of growth and the concentration of the bacteriocin did not decrease even after alt stationalry phase. Optimal temperature of bacteriocin production was $25^{\circ}C$ at the initial pH 7.0. Partially purified lactococcin K3113 was completely inactivated by protease, but not affected by lipase, lysozyme and RNase. The bacteriocin was very heat-stable even after autoclaving for 20 min. It was also stable in pH changes, an was not affected by th presence of solvents. lacotococcin K3113 appeared to act in bactericidal mode against L. delbrueckii-lactis ATCC4797. Molecular weight of lactococcin K3113 was calibrated as 10,500 dal by SDS-PAGE an activity staining. Lactococcus lactis LAB3113 had four residential plasmids of 3.7kb, 11.2kb, 15.5kb, and 48kh in molecular sizes. Plasmid profile analysis of mutant strain revealed that 15.5 kb plasmid was re-sponsible for the production of lactococcin K3113 and its immunity to the bacteriocin.

Nowadays, the high development of industrial technique demands the optimal design of marine structures to be welded under the water, because the underwater welding of the ship hull and marine structures can decrease manpower and cost of production. However there is not available at present any report on fatigue behavior about underwater welded joints. In this paper under tention- tension repeated fatigue stress with frequency of 10 cycles per second by local controlled system, the fatigue strength properties of underwater welded joints of SM41A-2 Plate-to-Plate of 10 mm thickness were experimentally examined. The results obtained were as follows : 1) The fatigue strength of underwater welded joints of SM41A-2 was peaked at the heat input of about 1, 400 joule/mm(180 A, 36 V), while, at the heat input of more than about 1, 100 joule/mm (160 A, 33 V) that of the underwater welds at the higher than cycle of life rather than the lower cycle was higher than that of the base metal but lower than that of the atmosphere welds on account of both cooling and notch effects. 2) The fatigue limit of underwater welds increased with an increase of heat input resulting in a peak of that at the heat input of about 1, 400 joule/mm and then decreased gradually. 3) The fatigue strength at N cycles was peaked between the heat input of about 1, 400 and 1, 700 joule/mm where the strain was rapidly increased. 4) It was confirmed that the optimal zone of heat input condition for obtaining the underwater welds fatigue strength higher than that of the base metal exists, and if out of this zone, the fatigue strength of the underwater welds was lower than that of the base metal because of lack weld penetration, inclusion of slag, voids, etc. 5) By the fatigue test, the underwater welds fractured brittly without visual deformation, so the strain was remarkably less than of the atmosphere welds. 6) The fatigue life factor was peaked at the heat input of about 1, 600 joule/mm (200 A, 36 V) at which the mean strain is a little higher than that of the base metal but quite lower than those of the atmosphere welds, resulting in good underwater welds because both fatigue strength and ductility of the underwater welds are higher than those of the base metal at such heat input.
In this study, for the tube-to-tube friction welding of hose nipple materials, the main parameters of friction welding were investigated using tensile tests, Vickers hardness surveys of the bond area (HAZ), and observations of the microstructure to increase the quality of friction welding based on visual examination. As-welded and post weld heat treated (PWHT) specimens were tested. The optimal welding conditions were found to be n = 1000 rpm, HP = 10 MPa, UP = 15 MPa, HT = 9 s, and UT = 5 s when the metal loss (Mo) was 7.5 mm. Furthermore, the peak of the hardness distribution of the friction welded joints could be eliminated by PWHT. Moreover, the two materials of the friction weld were thoroughly mixed with a well-combined structure of micro-particles, without any molten material, particle growth, or defects.
In automotive industries, various processes for the cost reduction have been investigated lively. As one of them, powder metallurgy becomes influential. Compared to other methods used for he manufacture of steel components the Powder metallurgy process is competitive primarily due to the small number of production steps to reach the final geometry and thereby also the energy-efficiency. In this paper, to alter present forging process into powder metallurgy process by which the automotive clutch disc spline hub is manufactured machining process, the mechanical properties of sintered materials is investigated by specimen test. Selecting the 3 kinds of materials-SMF 4040, SMF 9060 and DHP-1, their properties according to heat treatment such as carburizing -tempering and plasma-nitrodizing are compared. By result of specimen test - tensile test, compression ring test, Impacting test, measurment of hardness, and microstructure analysis - we concluded that SMF 9060 and carburizing-tempering heat treatment is an optimal material and heat treatment method for the spline hub. It will be able to reduce manufacturing cost and weight.
