In this study, micro genetic algorithm is used to find an optimum cross section of grid structures with pretension. Design optimization of trusses consists of arriving at optimum sizes of cross-section and prestressing force parameters, when weight of the truss is minimum, satisfying a set of specified constraints. The present approach is verified by ten-bar truss example showing good agreements with previous results. Features of the proposed method, which help in modeling and application to optimal design of pretensioned truss structures, are demonstrated by solving a problem of seventy two bar truss structures. The minimum weight design of seventy two bar truss is performed for various magnitudes of pretension and optimal prestressing forces are also found for various configurations of pretensioned truss structures.

This work presents an optimality criteria method applicable io the design of plane frames with I-shape sections. All kinds of constraints are treated properly to ensure the mathematical rigour of the method as ever. Among the various properties of a section, the cross-sectional area is chosen as the design variable associated with the member. Then other properties, moment of inertia and depth, are determined from the cross-sectional area using relationships established in advance from the sectional data for AISC standard W shapes. The optimality criteria established in this work is perfect in mathematical terms provided that the relationships between properties of a section are correct. A redesign algorithm is derived relying heavily on the Newton-Raphson method to solve the system of nonlinear constraint equations. A worked example is also Presented.
1. Introduction Present study presents the basic concept of a Solid Freeform Fabrication System using a rapid prototyping procedure and optimal control for a transferring and accumulating system. And it developed a novel rapid prototyping process that can use ceramic or metal as well as polymer as a basic material. 2. Solid Freeform Fabrication System 2.1 Basic Theory A 3D CAD data of the model is converted to the 2D cross-section data of the slides. A ceramic or metal tape of thickness 0.5-1.5mm is cut by a laser beam with the cross-section data of the slide. A 3D model was obtained by transferring and accumulating the slides. The final product is manufactured by sin...
When a cantilever beam rotates about the axis perpendicular to its longitudinal axis, its natural frequencies vary. This phenomenon which is caused by centrifugal inertia forces is often referred to as the stiffening effects. Since the variation of natural frequencies often creates critical problems for the rotating structures, it is necessary to control the variation of natural frequencies. As the cross section of a rotating cantilever beam varies, natural frequencies can be changed. The thickness and the width of the cantilever beam are assumed to be cubic spline functions in the present work. An optimization method is employed to find the optimal thickness and width of the rotating beam. This result can be used for the design of rotating structures such as turbine and helicopter blades.

In roll forming process, a sheet metal is continuously progressively formed into a product with required cross-section and longitudinal shape, such as a circular tube with required diameter, wall-thickness and straightness, by passing through a series of forming rolls in arranged in tandem. Tn this process, each pair of forming rolls installed in a forming machine play a particular role in making up the required cross-section and longitudinal shape of the product. In recent years, that process is often applied to the bumper rail in the automotive industries. In this study, a optimal Front Bumper Beam manufacturing technology, model deign and proper roll-pass sequences can be suggested by forming number of roll-pass and bending angle. And also effects of the process parameters on the final shape formed by roll forming defects were evaluated.

Pitched roof frames are widely used in construction of the industrial buildings, gyms, schools and colleges, fire stations, storages, hangars and many other low rise structures. The weight and shape of the gable frames with tapered members, as a familiar group of the pitched roof frames, are highly dependent on the properties of the member cross-sectional. In this work Enhanced Colliding Bodies Optimization (ECBO) is utilized for optimal design of three gable frames with tapered members. In order to optimize the frames, the design is performed using the AISC specifications for stress, displacement and stability constraints. The design constraints and weight of the gable frames are computed from the cross-section of members. These optimum weights are obtained using aforementioned optimization algorithms considering the cross-sections of the members and design constraints as optimization variables and constraints, respectively. A comparative study of the PSO and CBO with ECBO is also performed to illustrate the importance of the enhancement of the utilized optimization algorithm.

This paper describes a continuum variational formulation for design optimization of nonlinear structures in the elastic-plastic domain, where unloading and reloading of the structures are allowed to occur. The Total Lagrangian procedure is used for the description of the structural deformation. The direct differentiation approach is used to derive the sensitivities of the various structural response measures with respect to the design parameters. Since the material goes into the inelastic range and unloading and reloading of the structure are allowed to occur, the structural response is path dependent and an additional step is needed to integrate the constitutive equations. It can be shown, consequently, that design sensitivity analysis is also path-dependent. The theory has been discretized by the finite element technique and implemented in a structural analysis code. Mathematical programming approach is used for the optimization process. Numerical applications on trusses are performed, where cross-sectional areas and nodal point coordinates are treated as design variables. Optimal designs have been obtained and compared by using two different strategies: a two level strategy where the levels are defined accordingly the type of design variables, cross sectional areas or node coordinates, and optimizing simultaneously with respect to both types of design variables.
Truss members built-up with double angles back-to-back have monosymmetric cross-section and twisting always accompanies flexion upon the onset of buckling about the axis of symmetry. Approximate formulae for calculating the buckling capacity are presented in this paper for routine design purpose. For a member susceptible only to flexural buckling, its optimal cross-section should consist of slender plate elements so as to get larger radius of gyration. But, occurrence of twisting changes the situation owing to the weakness of thin plates in resisting torsion. Criteria for limiting the leg slenderness are discussed herein. Truss web members in compression are usually considered as hinged at both ends for out-of-plane buckling. In case one (or both) end of member is not supported laterally by bracing member, its adjoining members have to provide an elastic support of adequate stiffness in order not to underdesign the member. The stiffness provided by either compression or tension chords in different cases is analyzed, and the effect of initial crookedness of compression chord is taken into account. Formulae are presented to compute the required stiffness of chord member and to determine the effective length factor for inadequately constrained compressive diagonals.

Quantitative Mokpo-Jeju undersea tunnel is currently on the basis plan for reviewing validation. As for the cross section shape for express boat of 105 km line, sing track two tube is being reviewed as the Euro tunnel equipped with service tunnel. Also, 10 carriage trains have been planned to operate 76 times for one way a day. So, in this study, quantitative risk assessment method is settled, which is intended to review the optimal space between evacuation connection hall of tunnel by quantitative risk analysis method. In addition to this, optimal evacuation connection hall space is calculated by the types of cross section, which are Type 3 (double track single tube), Type 1 (sing track two tube), and Type 2 (separating double track on tube with partition). As a result, cross section of Type 2 is most efficient for securing evacuation safety, and the evacuation connection space is required for 350 m in Type 1, 400 m in Type 2, and 1,500 m in Type3 to satisfy current domestic social risk assessment standard.
