Automatic Tuning of Fuzzy Controller for Unknown Systems (미지 시스템에 대한 퍼지 제어기의 자동조정)

  • In this paper, the authors propose a method of stepwise tuning a controller with unknown process properties through! its step response. A fuzzy controller is chosen to achieve this aim. The main object of this paper is to give knowledge for the improvement of the response, under the limited prop erties obtained from the step response of the process. We obtained the adequate tuning method through simulations of many control objects. And the method of selecting optimal sampling period is also shown.

  • Design of novel materials in renewable energy systems plays a key role in powering transportation vehicles and portable electronics. This review introduces the research work of first principles-based computational design for the materials over the last decade to accomplish the goal with less financial and temporal cost beyond the conventional approach, especially, focusing on electrocatalyst toward a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). It is proposed that the new method combined with experimental validation, can provide fundamental descriptors and mechanical understanding for optimal efficiency control of a whole system. Advancing these methods can even realize a computational platform of the materials genome, which can substantially reduce the time period from discovery to commercialization into markets of new materials.

  • The growth promotion of a Taxus brevifolia cell suspension culture was investigated using conditioning factors. The conditioning factors produced and secreted from cultured cells usually stimulate cell division and the production of secondary metabolites. Therefore, the effective incubation time for the optimal secretion of conditioning factors was firstly determined for the promotion of cell growth. Conditioned media obtained by cultivating for 2 and 5 days showed the promotion of initial cell growth during the early cell growth period. However, the positive effect of the conditioning factors on the initial cell growth did not continue because of the depletion of the medium nutrients. Accordingly, the addition of a carbon source to the conditioned medium prolonged the positive effect on the cell growth. The addition of sucrose to the conditioned medium resulted in the maximum cell density being reached 4 days earlier compared to the control group and an increased substrate yield.

The Effects of Pine Pollen and Horseradish on Fermentation of Kimchi (송화 및 고추냉이 첨가가 김치 발효에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was performed to investigate the effects of pine pollen and horseradish, which were known as antimicrobial materials, on the fermentation of Kimchi. The physicochemical and microbial changes of Kimchi were investigated during period 30-days at $10^{\circ}C$. Even though Kimchi added pine pollen or horseradish powder were sustained the higher pH and lower acidity after 10 days, it delayed only 1∼2 more days to reach optimal value of Kimchi fermentation in experimental groups than control. The horseradish powder showed the antimicrobial effect of Kimchi at initial stage, but thereafter that effect of pine pollen or horseradish were not significant. Therefore the addition of pine pollen or horseradish powder to Kimchi is not sufficiently effective for extension of shelf-life of Kimchi.

  • 본 연구는 공급자(supplier), 소매상(retailer) 그리고 고객(customer)으로 구성된 2 단계 공급사슬에서 소매상의 관점에서 소매상의 최적 재고정책 결정에 관한 문제를 다루었다. 공급자는 수요 증대를 목적으로 소매상의 주문량에 따라 다단계로 일정기간동안 제품 판매대금에 대한 지불 연기(외상)를 허용하고, 고객의 수요는 소매상의 제품 재고량에 영향을 받는다는 가정 하에 재고 모형을 설계하였다. 모형 분석을 통하여 소매상의 이익을 최대화하는 최적 주문량 결정 방법을 제시하였고, 예제를 통하여 그 제시된 해법의 타당성을 보였다.

  • In this paper, a new type of inchworm motion actuator is developed in fabrication of actuators for micro-press machine. This is consisted of three piezoelectric actuators, one is for moving the tool guide and the other are for clamping the guide. The inchworm motor provides both high load and large displacement in small size actuator. PZT has compressive strength and often fails under tensile stress and pulling. Thus, in order to prevent failure, we have designed pre-load housing and accomplished FEM analysis. The pre-load housing was used for determining the optimal design condition by comparing the von-mises stresses with the change of hinge stiffness. Also, in order to predict the performance of the motor under certain conditions, the system model was simulated using MATLAB. This is open loop control actuator and driven by the period of input voltage.

Quality Characteristics of Sulgidduk Supplemented with Ligularia fischeri Powder (곰취가루를 첨가한 설기떡의 품질 특성)

  • The goal of this study was to make more efficient use of Ligularia fischeri which has both medical and cooking applications after freezing and drying. We manufactured Sulgidduk containing 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8% of Ligularia fischeri powder. Chemical analysis showed that Ligularia fischeri powder contained, 5.77% water, 19.97% crude protein, 1.89% crude fat, 13.12% crude ash, and 9.73% crude fiber. The water content of Sulgidduk to which Ligularia fischeri was added ranged from 37.72~40.20%. As more Ligularia fischeri was added, the L value and 'a' value increased, while the 'b' value did not significantly change. Optimal preference was for a 4% content of added Ligularia fischeri powder. Based on the results of this experiment, Sulgidduk manufactured with added Ligularia fischeri powder showed less hardness than the control group throughout a period of storage, and adequate addition of Ligularia fischeri powder can effectively enhance the storability of Sulgidduk containing Ligularia fischeri.

The Investigation of Chitosanoligosaccharide for Prolongating Fermentation Period of Kimchi (김치의 숙성 및 보존 기간 연장을 위한 키토산올리고당의 응용)

  • The effect of chitosanoligosaccharide(CTO) on kimchi fermentation was investigated to see the optimal CTO concentration adding into Kimchi. Lactobacillus plantarum and Leuconostoc mesenteroides were cultured in flasks under the condition of various CTO concentrations. In the case of Lactobacillus plantarium, the growth was inhibited in the degree with 52, 79 and 100% at the concentration of 0.005, 0.007, 0.05% CTO after 14 hours culture, respectively. The growth of Leuconostoc mesenteroides was significantly inhibited in the degree with 7,33 and 90% at the concentration of 0.002, 0.003 and 0.004% CTO after the culture, respectively. Kimchi was formulated with variious CTO concentrations(0.005~0.2%) and fermented at 2$0^{\circ}C$ during 12 days. The fermentation periods were increased 2~6 times more than that of control(0% CTO). Also, off-flavour by adding CTO was insignificant in all the kimchi samples.

THE REACTION OF BONE REGENERATE TO THE VARIOUS FORCE RATIO AND PERIODS ON DISTRACTION OSTEOGENESIS WITH COMBINED DISTRACTION FORCE AND COMPRESSION FORCE (수축력과 신장력을 병용한 골신장술에서의 다양한 힘의 비와 부여시기에 따른 신연골 반응)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effectiveness of the modified distraction osteogenesis (DO) method with the concept of overdistraction and compression stimulation which have been previously suggested by the authors in 2002 and to explore the optimal distraction-compression ratio and appropriate latency period for the compression force application during consolidation. The experimental specimens were assessed with radiography, histologic findings, and dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) after the conventional DO method and the modified DO technique had been applied on rat mandibles. Total 60 rats were used for the study. In experimental group of 54 adult rats, mandibular osteotomies between the first and second molar areas were performed and customized external distractors were applied. The surgeries on 6 rats of control group also were done with same osteotomy technique and DO device application. Final amount of distraction was set-up as 2 mm on both groups. But, in a experimental group of 54 rats, distraction osteogenesis with a compression force were performed with the different distraction-compression ratio and variant latency periods for compression. The three ratio-subgroups were made as distraction 4 mm group with compression 2 mm, distraction 3 mm group with compression 1 mm, and distraction 2.5 mm group with compression 0.5 mm. In addition, The three subgroups with 3, 7, 11 days latency period prior compression were allocated on each ratio-subgroups. Total 9 subgroups consisted of 6 rats on each subgroup. In control group of 6 rats, conventional distraction technique were routinely performed. The rats of control groups were sacrificed on postoperative 3, 6 weeks after 2 mm distraction. The rats in the experimental groups also were sacrificed on the same euthanasia days of control groups to compare the wound healing. Final available specimens were 55 rats except 5 due to osteomyelitis, device dislodgement. Distraction-compression combined group on 6 weeks generally had showed increased bone mineral density than the same period group of conventional distraction technique on the DEXA study. More matured lamellar bone state and extended trabecular pattern in the combined group than those of control group were also observed in the histologic findings on 6 weeks. In the distraction-compression combined groups, the bone density of 2.5 mm distraction subgroups with 0.5 mm compression showed the highest value on the DEXA study among various force ratio groups. In the distraction-compression combined groups, the bone density of 3 day latency period subgroups showed the highest value on the DEXA study among various latency period groups for the compression application. From this study, we could deduce that 1/5 force ratio for the compression versus distraction, 3 day latency period prior compression application would be the most effective condition if modified distraction osteogenesis technique might be applicable. The modified DO method with a compression force may improve the quality of bone regenerate and shorten total treatment period in comparison with conventional DO technique clinically.

Effects of tannin supplementation on growth performance and methane emissions of Hanwoo beef cows

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of dietary hydrolysable tannin on growth performance and methane emissions of Hanwoo beef cows. Fifteen cows participated in a seven-week experiment. The cows were stratified by initial methane emissions and assigned to one of two treatments: Control and tannin supplementation. Commercial hydrolysable tannin was top-dressed to a concentrate mix at 3 g/kg based on the dry matter. Enteric methane production was measured for 4 consecutive days at 1 week before and 1, 3 and 7 weeks after the initiation of the experiment using a laser methane detector. The feed intake was measured daily during the methane measurement periods and an additional two days prior to each measurement. The body weight of the cows was measured every 4 weeks. Hydrolysable tannin had no effect (p > 0.05) on body weight, average daily gain, dry matter intake (DMI) and feed conversion ratio. After one week, the methane emission of the tannin supplementation group was 3.66 ppm-m / kg DMI, which was about 3.4% lower (p = 0.078) than that of the control group; however, this tendency disappeared at 3 weeks after the start of the experiment (p > 0.05). The results of this study show that hydrolysable tannin supplementation can reduce enteric methane emissions for a limited period in Hanwoo beef cows. More research, however, is needed to determine the optimal level of hydrolysable tannin supplementation to reduce enteric methane emissions for a longer period without adversely affecting the animal performance of Hanwoo beef cattle.
