Development of Optimal Design System for AS/RS with Different Sized Cells Using Expert Systems and Mathematical Models (전문가시스템과 수리모델을 이용한 이형랙을 가진 자동창고 최적 설계 시스템 개발)

  • The Automated Storage/Retrieval System(AS/RS) is very expensive to be built. But there are few tools available which can be used to design the storage systems optimally considering overall system building costs and constraints. In this paper, we propose a design support system for optimal design of AS/RS which includes different sized cells using expert systems and mathematical models considering customer's demands. The optimization models are to be used to minimize the total cost including building, equipment and operation costs. Expert system technique is utilized for using the experiences of skilled designers. By using the proposed system, AS/RS can be designed accurately, economically and efficiently.

Improved Attenuation Estimation of Ultrasonic Signals Using Frequency Compounding Method

  • Ultrasonic attenuation is an important parameter in Quantitative Ultrasound and many algorithms have been proposed to improve estimation accuracy and repeatability for multiple independent estimates. In this work, we propose an improved algorithm for estimating ultrasonic attenuation utilizing the optimal frequency compounding technique based on stochastic noise model. We formulate mathematical compounding equations in the AWGN channel model and solve optimization problems to maximize the signal-to-noise ratio for multiple frequency components. Individual estimates are calculated by the reference phantom method which provides very stable results in uniformly attenuating regions. We also propose the guideline to select frequency ranges of reflected RF signals. Simulation results using numerical phantoms show that the proposed optimal frequency compounding method provides improved accuracy while minimizing estimation bias. The estimation variance is reduced by only 16% for the un-compounding case, whereas it is reduced by 68% for the uniformly compounding case. The frequency range corresponding to the half-power for reflected signals also provides robust and efficient estimation performance.

  • Error detection and correcting codes are typically used to protect against soft errors. In addition, scrubbing is applied which is a fundamental technique to avoid the accumulation of soft errors. This paper introduces an optimal scrubbing scheme, which is suitable for a system with auto error detection and correction logic. An auto error detection and correction logic can correct soft errors without CPU's writing operation. The proposed scrubbing scheme leads to maximum reliability by considering both allowable scrubbing load and the periodic accesses to memory by the tasks running in the system.

  • This paper proposes an efficient method of hydro-thermal scheduling in coordination with head variation and hydraulically coupled plants using Evolutionary Programing(EP). Based on the EP technique, the proposed algorithm is capable of determining the global optimal solutions. The constraints such a power balance condition, water available condition and transmission losses are embedded and satisfied throughout the proposed EP approach. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated on the test systems and compared to those of other method. The results show that the new approach obtains a more highly optimal solutions than the conventional other methods such as newton-raphson method, Dynamic Programming(DP), LU factorization.

  • This paper describes current controlled PWM technique of PM synchronous motors for a wide variety of speed control applications. They are however limited in their ability to operate in the power limited regime where the available torque is reduced as the speed is increased above its base value. This paper reviews the operation of the PMSM drives when they are constrained to be within the permissible envelope of maximum inverter voltage and current to produce the rated power and to provide this with the highest attainable rotor speed. The optimal field-weakening control algorithm is the use of phase current and d-axis current feedback to reduce of error between the d-axis current command and real current and to improve the torque characteristics. The improved torque characteristics of speed control strategy with optimal field weakening control algorithm is analyzed and the performance is investigated by the computer simulation and experimental results.   • This paper presents methods to improve performance of the power supply system in a NASA deep space explorer. In the Stirling engine driven reciprocating Brushless DC (BLDC) generator, the accurate position information of the prime mover is important to diagnose the performance of the engine and prevent distortion of the output power. Since sensors to detect the position are fragile and unreliable, and conventional sensorless techniques have drawbacks in the low speed region, a novel sensorless position detection technique for the prime mover has been proposed and verified. Another major issue of the generator for the spacecraft is power density maximization. The mass of the power system is important to the mass of the satellite. Therefore, the components of the spacecraft should be lightweight. Conventional rectification methods cannot achieve the maximum power possible due to non-optimal current waveforms. The optimal current waveform for maximizing power density and minimizing machine size and weight in a nonsinusoidal power supply system has been derived, incorporated in a control system, and verified by simulation work.

  • This paper presents the application of bee colony optimization (BCO) to obtain the optimal switching angles for single phase PWM AC choppers. The optimal switching angles are found in the region of 0-${\pi}$ based on the asymmetrical PWM technique. This PWM process results in improvements of the total harmonic distortion of the output voltage and in the input power factor. Simulation and experimental results are compared with the conventional PWM to verify the performance of the proposed PWM process.

  • In this paper, The authors apply a state feedback control using an optimal control theory to improve the stability of the control and the dynamic response of the DC-DC converter system with a number of different loads. To execute a this state feedback control, The authors present the pole placement technique using Linear Quadratic Regulator(LQR) to optimally control the system. An integrator can also be included in the open-loop path in order to minimize the steady-state error of the output voltage. To confirm the superiority of the controller, The simulation results are presented.

  • The multiobjective optimization is presented for the optimal design of induction motors. The aim of design is to find an optimized induction motor in terms of both the efficiency and the mass. The efficiency and the mass are linearly combined using the weighting factors. Optimization process is performed by using the improved (1+1) evolution strategy (ES). ES is the algorithm that can find the global minimum. To verify the validity of the proposed method. the method is applied to a sample design.

  • An integral-augmented variable structure system is suggested for the control of an uncertain SISO systems without the reaching phase problems. The integral-augmented sliding surface is defined in order to remove the reaching phase, then it is designed using the optimal technique. The example results show the effectiveness of the algorithm.
