The prognosis of splinted restoration of the most-distal implants in the posterior region

  • PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacies of two-implant splinting (2-IS) and single-implant restoration (1-IR) in the first and second molar regions over a mean functional loading period (FLP) of 40 months, and to propose the appropriate clinical considerations for the splinting technique. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The following clinical factors were examined in the 1-IR and 2-IS groups based on the total hospital records of the patients: sex, mean age, implant location, FLP, bone grafting, clinical crown-implant ratio, crown height space, and horizontal distance. The mechanical complications [i.e., screw loosening (SL), screw fracture, crown fracture, and repeated SL] and biological complications [i.e., peri-implant mucositis (PM) and peri-implantitis (PI)] were also evaluated for each patient. In analysis of two groups, the chi-square test and Student's t-test were used to identify the relationship between clinical factors and complication rates. The optimal cutoff value for the FLP based on complications was evaluated using receiver operating characteristics analysis. RESULTS. In total, 234 patients with 408 implants that had been placed during 2005 - 2014 were investigated. The incident rates of SL (P<.001), PM (P=.002), and PI (P=.046) differed significantly between the 1-IR and 2-IS groups. The FLP was the only meaningful clinical factor for mechanical and biological complication rates in 2-IS. CONCLUSION. The mechanical complication rates were lower for 2-IS than for 1-IR, while the biological complication rates were higher for 2-IS. FLP of 39.80 and 46.57 months were the reference follow-up periods for preventing biological and mechanical complications, respectively.

The Study on matrix based high performance pattern matching by independence partial match (독립 부분 매칭에 의한 행렬 기반 고성능 패턴 매칭 방법에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose a matrix based real-time pattern matching method, called MDPI, for real-time intrusion detection on several Gbps network traffic. Particularly, in order to minimize a kind of overhead caused by buffering, reordering, and reassembling under the circumstance where the incoming packet sequence is disrupted, MDPI adopts independent partial matching in the case dealing with pattern matching matrix. Consequently, we achieved the performance improvement of the amount of 61% and 50% with respect to TCAM method efficiency through several experiments where the average length of the Snort rule set was maintained as 9 bytes, and w=4 bytes and w=8bytes were assigned, respectively, Moreover, we observed the pattern scan speed of MDPI was 10.941Gbps and the consumption of hardware resource was 5.79LC/Char in the pattern classification of MDPI. This means that MDPI provides the optimal performance compared to hardware complexity. Therefore, by decreasing the hardware cost came from the increased TCAM memory efficiency, MDPI is proven the cost effective high performance intrusion detection technique.

  • In order to achieve high coding efficiency, H.264/AVC video coding standard adopts the techniques such as variable block size coding, motion estimation with quarter-pel precision, multiple reference frames, rate-distortion optimization, and etc. However, these coding methods have a defect to greatly increase the complexity for motion estimation. Particularly, from multiple reference frame motion estimation, the computational burden increases in proportion to the number of the searched reference frames. Therefore, we propose the method to reduce the complexity by controlling the number of the searched reference frames in motion estimation. Proposed algorithm uses the optimal reference frame information in both $P16{\times}16$ mode and the adjacent blocks, thus omits unnecessary searching process in the rest of inter modes. Experimental results show the proposed method can save an average of 57.31% of the coding time with negligible quality and bit-rate difference. This method also can be adopted with any of the existing motion estimation algorithm. Therefore, additional performance improvement can be obtained.

Influence of the MgO-TiO2 Co-Additive Content on the Phase Formation, Microstructure and Fracture Toughness of MgO-TiO2-Reinforced Dental Porcelain Nanocomposites

  • The influence of the co-additive concentration (0 - 45 wt% with an interval of 5 wt%) of MgO-$TiO_2$ on the phase formation, microstructure and fracture toughness of MgO-$TiO_2$-reinforced dental porcelain nanocomposites derived from a one-step sintering technique were examined using a combination of X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and Vickers indentation. It was found that MgO-$TiO_2$-reinforced dental porcelain nanocomposites exhibited significantly higher fracture toughness values than those observed in single-additive (MgO or $TiO_2$)-reinforced dental porcelain composites at any given sintering temperature. The amount of MgO-$TiO_2$ as a co-additive was found to be one of the key factors controlling the phase formation, microstructure and fracture toughness of these nanocomposites. It is likely that 30 wt% of MgO-$TiO_2$ as a co-additive is the optimal amount for $MgTi_2O_5$ and $Mg_2SiO_4$ crystalline phase formation to obtain the maximum relative density (96.80%) and fracture toughness ($2.60{\pm}0.07MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$) at a sintering temperature of $1000^{\circ}C$.

Airborne video as a remote sensor for environmental monitoring of linear infrastructure: a case study and review

  • At present, environmental monitoring of linear infrastructure is based mainly on field sampling. The 'integrated mapping' approach has received only limited attention from field scientists. The increased environmental regulation of corridor targets has required remote sensing research to develop a sensor or technique for targets ranging from 15 m to 100 m in swath width. In an attempt to identify the optimal remote sensing system for linear targets, an overview is provided of the application requirements and the technology currently available. The relative limitation of traditional remote sensing systems in such a linear application is briefly discussed. It is noted that airborne video could provide, in a cost-effective manner, information required for a very narrow and long strip target utilising the narrow view angle and dynamic stereo coverage. The value of this paper is warranted in proposing a new concept of video infrastructure monitoring as a future research direction in the recognition of sensor characteristics and limitations.

Inventory policy comparison on supply chain network by simulation technique

  • The aim of the paper is to solve the problem of customer reduction due to the difficulty of parts sourcing which impacts production delay and delivery delay in SC networks. Furthermore, this paper is to suggest the new inventory policy of MTS in order to solve the problem of current inventory policy. In order to compare two policies, a LCD maker is selected as a case study and the real data for 2007 years is used for simulation input. The maker uses MTO policy for parts sourcing which has the problem of lead time even if it has some advantage of inventory cost. Based on current process. The simulation program of AS-IS model and TO-BE model using ARENA 10 version is developed for evaluation. In a result, the order number of two policies shows that MTO is 52 and MTS is 53. However the quantity of order shows big difference such that MTO is 168,460 and MTS is 225,106. Particularly, the lead time of new inventory policy shows much shorter that that of MTO such that MTO 100 is days and MTS is 16 days. In spite of short lead time by MTS policy, new policy has to take burden of inventory cost per year. Total inventory cost per year by MTS policy is US$ 11,254 and each part inventory cost is that POL is US$ 1,807, LDI is US$ 2,166 and Panel is US$ 7,281. The implication of the research is that the company has to consider the cost and the service simultaneously in deciding the inventory policy. In the paper, even if the optimal point of deciding is put into tactical area, the ground of decision is suggested in order to improve the problem in SC networks.

  • The Upper Fenhe Reservoir System studied by KOWACO to supply water to Taiyuan City, capital of Shanxi Province in China, is a very complicated one. Many reservoirs will be connected serially and it will be operated as a multi-purpose and multi-criteria system because several objectives and appraisal functions are taken into account regarding system operation. For reservoirs in the system, the critical system operation objectives are to minimize water shortage and reservoir sediment. Furthermore the reservoir system will be jointed with a large-scale pumping system, namely Yellow River Diversion Project. The water development cost in the Yellow River Diversion Project is much higher than that of reservoir system, and around the year 2020 the diversion volume will be twice of the surface water available in the Upper Fenhe Basin. In this study, an optimization technique for connecting the system of reservoirs and pumping station was developed to solve a conjunctive low River Diversion Project. The developed scheme includes a suggestion on the combining methodology of real reservoir system and pumping system using imaginary reservoir concept for the Yellow River Diversion Project, and practical examples to the minimization problem of the Yellow River diversion satisfying other reservoir operation objectives.

Incorporating Climate Change Scenarios into Water Resources Management (기후 변화를 고려한 수자원 관리 기법)

  • This study reviewed the recent studies for the climate change impact on water resource systems and applied one of the techniques to a real reservoir system - the Skagit hydropower system in U.S.A. The technique assumed that the climate change results in ±5% change in monthly average and/or standard deviation of the observed inflows for the Skagit system. For each case of the altered average and standard deviation, an optimal operating policy was derived using s SDP(Stochastic Dynamic Programming) model and compared with the operating policy for the non-climate change case. The results showed that the oparating policy of the Skagit system is more sensitive to the change in the streamflow average than that in the streamflow standard deviation. The derived operating policies were also simulated using the synthetic streamflow scenarios and their average annual gains were compared as a performance index. To choose the best operating policy among the derived policies, a Bayesian decision strategy was also presented with an example.   • Chinese Postman Problem (CPP) is a problem that finds a shortest tour traversing all edges or arcs at least once in a given network. The Chinese Postman Problem on Mixed networks (MCPP) is a Practical generalization of the classical CPP and it has many real-world applications. The MCPP has been shown to be NP-complete. In this paper, we transform a mixed network into a symmetric network using virtual arcs that are shortest paths by Floyd's algorithm. With the transformed network, we propose a Genetic Algorithm (GA) that converges to a near optimal solution quickly by a multi-directional search technique. We study the chromosome structure used in the GA and it consists of a path string and an encoding string. An encoding method, a decoding method, and some genetic operators that are needed when the MCPP is solved using the Proposed GA are studied. . In addition, two scaling methods are used in proposed GA. We compare the performance of the GA with an existing Modified MDXED2 algorithm (Pearn et al. , 1995) In the simulation results, the proposed method is better than the existing methods in case the network has many edges, the Power Law scaling method is better than the Logarithmic scaling method.

  • The thin-film photovoltaic absorbers (CdTe and $Cu(In,Ga)Se_2$) can achieve solar conversion efficiencies of up to 20% and are now commercially available, but the presence of toxic (Cd,Se) and expensive elemental components (In, Te) is a real issue as the demand for photovoltaics rapidly increases. To overcome these limitations, there has been substantial interest in developing viable alternative materials, such as $Cu_2ZnSnS_4$ (CZTS) is an emerging solar absorber that is structurally similar to CIGS, but contains only earth abundant, non-toxic elements and has a near optimal direct band gap energy of 1.4 - 1.6 eV and a large absorption coefficient of ~104 $cm^{-1}$. The CZTS absorber layers are grown and investigated by various fabrication methods, such as thermal evaporation, e-beam evaporation with a post sulfurization, sputtering, non-vacuum sol-gel, pulsed laser, spray-pyrolysis method and electrodeposition technique. In the present work, we report an alternative aqueous chemical approach based on chemical bath deposition (CBD) method for large area deposition of CZTS thin films. Samples produced by our method were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, absorbance and photoluminescence. The results show that this inexpensive and relatively benign process produces thin films of CZTS exhibiting uniform composition, kesterite crystal structure, and some factors like triethanolamine, ammonia, temperature which strongly affect on the morphology of CZTS film.
