  • There are two kinds of method in ship maintenance. One is the corrective maintenance and the other is the preventive maintenance. For these maintenances recently the stochastic techniques are widely used to keep the maximum availibility and the optimal maintenance period minimizing a given cost function. Thus this paper suggest a method to decide the optimal policy of ship's maintenances by using dynamic programming and the effectiveness of the method is verified through several examples in which failure rates and maintenance data of ship's machineries and parts are given.

  • Delay time analysis is a pragmatic mathematical concept readily embraced by engineers which has been developed as a means to model maintenance decision problem. This paper considers an inspection period using delay time analysis for fishing vessel equipment. We assume that delay time distribution is Weibull and inspections are perfect. In this paper, we determine the optimal inspection period which minimize the expected downtime per unit time.

  • In this paper, we designed one-dimensional VLSI array with optimal pipeline period for high speed processing fractal image compression. The algorithm is derived which is suitable for VLSI array from axed block partition algorithm. Also the algorithm satisfies high quality of image and high compression-ratio. The designed VLSI array has optimal pipeline relied because the required processing time of PEs is distributed as same as possible. As this result, we can improve the processing speed up to about 3 times. The number of input/output pins can be reduced by sharing the input/output and arithmetic unit of the domain blocks and the range blocks.

  • This paper discusses an optimal burn-in procedure to minimize total costs based on the assumption that the failure rate pattern follows a bimodal mixed Weibull distribution. The procedure will consider warranty period as a factor of the total expected burn-in cost. A cost model is formulated to find the optimal burn-in time that minimizes the expected burn-in cost. Conditional reliability for warranty period will be discussed. An illustrative example is included to show how to use the cost model in practice.

  • Replacement policy of a degradation system is investigated by incorporating the loss function. Loss function is defined by the deviation of the value of quality characteristic from its target value, which determines the loss cost. Cost function is comprised of the inspection cost, replacement cost and loss cost. Two cost minimization problems are formulated : 1)determination of an optimal inspection period given the state for the replacement and 2)determination of an optimal state for replacement under fixed inspection period. Simulation analysis is performed to observe the variation of total cost with respect to the variation of the parameters of loss function and inspection cost, respectively As a result, parameters of loss function are seen to be the most sensitive to the total cost. On the contrary, inspection cost is observed to be insensitive. This study can be applied to the replacement policy of a degradation system which has to produce the quality critical product.

  • In this paper, the single-period inventory problem, what is called newsboy problem, has been revisited with two different conditions, uncertain supply and risk-averseness. Eeckhoudt et al. [5] investigated the effect of risk-averseness of a newsboy on the optimal order quantity in a stochastic demand setting. In contrary to Eeckhoudt et al. [5] this paper investigates the effect of risk-averseness in a stochastic supply setting. The findings from this investigation say that if ${\alpha}^*$ represents the optimal order quantity without risk-averseness then the risk-averse optimal order quantity can be greater than ${\alpha}^*$ and can be less than ${\alpha}^*$ as well.

  • This paper considers a Bayesian approach to replacement policy model with minimal repair. We use the criterion based on the expected cost and the expected downtime to determine the optimal replacement period. To do so, we obtain the expected cost rate per unit time and the expected downtime per unit time, respectively. When the failure time is Weibull distribution with uncertain parameters, a Bayesian approach is established to formally express and update the uncertain parameters for determining an optimal maintenance policy. Especially, the overall value function suggested by Jiagn and Ji(2002) is applied to obtain the optimal replacement period. The numerical examples are presented for illustrative purpose.

A Study on Multi-Period Inventory Clearance Pricing in Consideration of Consumer's Reference Price Effect

  • It is difficult to determine an appropriate discount price for daily perishable products to increase profit from a long-term standpoint. Even if the discount pricing is efficient to increase profit of the day, consumers memorize the sales price and they might hesitate to purchase the product at a regular price the following day. The authors discussed the inventory clearance pricing for a single period in our previous study by constructing a mathematical model to derive an optimal sales price to maximize the expected profit by considering the reference price effect of demand. This paper extends the discussion to handle the discount pricing for multiple periods. A mathematical analysis is first conducted to reveal the properties on an objective function, which is the present value of total expected profits for multiple periods. An algorithm is then proposed to derive an optimal price for asymmetric consumers. Numerical experiments investigate the characteristics of the objective function and optimal pricings.

  • In this paper, we want to know the optimal replacement cycle(time) for this study was performed. The optimal preventive replacement age can be fond by finding the value of time that minimizes the cost function(model of Barlow and Jardine). In addition, The reliability of the relay according to the service environment were studied. The use of the exchange relay period is longer, and maintenance cost rate(per hour) may increase, and also the reliability may cause a decline. In addition, considering the preventive maintenance and purchase order, a representative relay(RAX-L440-A type) life was calculated.
