  • In this paper the electronic and optical properties of various poly(3-alkylthiophene)s differing in alkyl chain length were investigated. And their dependence on temperature were also investigated. The electrical conductivity decreased with the increase of alkyl chain length. In addition optical properties were changed due to the shift of edge energy which was caused by the change of the alkyl chain length and rise of temperature. The conformational change of poly(3-alkylthionphene) depending on the alkyl chain length is believed to be responsible to the change of electronic and optical properties of materials.

  • Metal nanoparticle doped glasses have various applications such as use as photochromic media for optical disk data storage, the fabrication of optical waveguides and waveguide lasers, use as all-optical switches due to their nonlinear optical properties, as well as use in the color glass recycling industry. Recently, an ultrashort pulsed laser has been used as a powerful tool to make microscopic modifications to transparent Metal nano particle doped glasses. (omitted)

  • As feature sizes of circuits and devices approach 100 m and chip frequencies climb into the upper gigahertz to terahertz range, it becomes increasingly important to have a convenient method of characterizing properties of thin dielectric films in the GHz to THz frequency range [1]. To measure the dielectric and optical properties of materials at THz frequency, a TH2 time-domain spectroscopy has been utilized during past decade. (중략)

  • The color difference caused by the overprinting sequence of ink in multicolor printing is due to both trapping and optical properties of ink layers. Hence the effect of optical properties only cannot be analyzed without removing the effect of ink trapping This study was carrier out for the purpose of analyzing optically the color difference caused by only the optical properties of ink under the various printing sequence. The present optical analysis for overprints showed a good agreement with the experimental result. It is expected that this study may contribute to decreasing the color difference between the original and the printed reproduction in multi-color printing.

  • This study compares general jacquard fabrics and jacquard fabrics with optical fiber on mechanical properties, sensibility and preference evaluation of fabric for the blind. The analysis also assesses the effect of optical fiber in the evaluation and identifies those best suited for consumers. The mechanical properties of jacquard fabrics were measured by the KES-FB system. Sensibility and the preference of the jacquard fabric for the blind were rated on tactile sensation by women experts in their 20's and 30's. It was found that the optical fiber in jacquard fabric affected the change of mechanical properties as well as sensibility and preference. Jacquard fabric with optical fiber were softer and more transformable, while the fabrics had lower recover property by shear force and compression as well as more violent unevenness. Jacquard fabrics were also classified into three hand factors of surface property, resilience and weightiness. There were significant differences on surface property perceptions and weightiness, hand and blind preferences by optical fiber. Jacquard fabrics that contained optical fiber were not preferred by the blind because they were perceived to be uneven and heavy. Those, that were smooth and light, were preferred for jacquard fabric; in addition, fabrics preferred by the blind had good compression.

  • To provide the clear images from the direct light on electrical board and display devices, anti glare treatment of display cover glass is needed. In this study, the effects of surface treatment temperature, concentration, and etching solution coating thickness of the gel phase on optical elements control such as gloss, haze of reflected light and transmittance, were investigated. Cover glasses were treated at different coating thickness and additive concentration. The optical properties were examined using spectrophotometer, gloss and haze meter. The surface morphology and roughness were measured by the optical microscope and Ra measuring instrument. The etching rate and surface morphologies were dramatically affected by the concentration of acid additive in the viscous gel because of re-crystallization of components in the etching solution, hydrogel formation and coagulant after coating on glass substrate. In our experimental range, cover glass which is surface-treated with various optical properties as well as the morphology uniformity was obtained; in particular, optical properties could be controlled by etching solution coating thickness of the gel phase and the concentration of additive. The gloss was depended on the surface roughness and it showed the linear relationship between optical transmittance and haze of reflected light, respectively.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of surface modified pigments on the properties of coated paper. The selected core particle(clay, talc) and fine particle(TiO$_2$) were modified by hybridization. The optical properties of modified pigments, rheological properties of coating color, and optical properties of coated paper were investigated. It was found that particles formed sphere-like shape and became more uniform during the surface modification in the hybridization system. As a result, It was estimated that surface modification of TiO$_2$ turned out to be more effective in improving optical properties of pigment and coated paper than simply blending it.

  • Fe-Au alloys are characterized by the complete solubility, and exhibit an fcc-bcc structural transformation at the Fe-rich side. The magneto-optical(equatorial Ken effect : EKE) and optical properties of Fe$\_$1-x/Aux (0 < x < 1) were investigated in the 0.5 - 5.0 eV energy range. The x-ray diffraction study shows the structural fcc-bcc transformation about 80 at. % of Fe. Noticeable changes in the optical properties caused by the fcc-bcc structural transformation was observed. The shape and intensity of the EKE spectra as well as the field dependence of the magneto-optical response were also significantly changed. It is thought that these changes are mainly comes from the induced magnetic moment in Au(and/or the emhanced magnetic moment of Fe). The nature of the prominent structure observed in the UV range of the magneto-optical Ken effect of Au/Fe multilayered films are disscussed in connection with the above results.

  • The detailed studies regarding to the front and rear panel geometries and optical properties of composed layers were needed to improve the luminance and efficiency. 3-dimensional optical code can be used to analyze the variation of geometries and the changing of optical properties. The visible light distributions and illuminance results were simulated depending on the bus electrode position, ITO geometries and optical properties of dielectric layer. As the ITO area was decreased and the bus electrode was located at the outer part of cell, the illumination was increased. And we could find quantification which is related between dielectric layer and visible light distribution of PDP cell.
