Optical Card 시스템에서의 마이크로렌즈 조사 광프로브 어레이 설계 및 제작 (Design and Fabrication of Microlens Illuminated Aperture Array for Optical ROM Card System)

  • An optical ROM card system which using an optical probe array generated by Talbot effect was proposed as new robust storage solution. To improve the optical density and to decrease the power consumption of the system, it is very important to make the spot sizes of optical probes smaller as well as to increase the optical efficiency from the light source to optical probes. In this study, a microlens illuminated aperture array for generating high efficiency optical probe away with small beam spot was designed and fabricated using monolithic lithography integration method. The maximum intensity of optical probes of microlens illuminated aperture array increased about 12 times of that of aperture array, and the full width half maximum of the optical probe at Talbot plane generated by microlens illuminated aperture array was $0.77{\mu}m$.

  • An aspheric microlens array to improve the properties of multi optical probes was designed and fabricated. To generate multi optical probes with good qualities, a microlens array with the minimum spherical aberration was designed by ray tracing. Using the reflow process, a master pattern of aspheric microlens array was made and finally with the ultraviolet-imprinting (UV-imprinting) method, the aspheric microlens array was replicated. The reflow condition was optimized to realize the master pattern of the microlens array with the designed aspheric shape. The intensity distribution of the optical probes at the focal plane showed a diffraction-limited shape.

  • Confocal scanning microscopy is a widely used technique for three dimensional measurements because it is characterized by high resolution, high SNR and depth discrimination. Generally an image is generated by moving one optical probe that satisfies the confocal condition on the specimen. Measurement speed is limited by movement speed of the optical probe; scanning speed. To improve measurement speed we increase the number of optical probes. Specimen region to scan is divided by optical probes. Multi-point information each optical probe points to can be obtained simultaneously. Therefore image acquisition speed is increased in proportion to the number of optical probes. And multiple optical probes from red, green and blue laser sources can be used for color imaging and image quality, i.e., contrast, is improved by adding color information by this way. To conclude, this technique contributes to the improvement of measurement speed and image quality.

  • Optical Triangulation Probes (OTPs) are widely used for their simple structure. high resolution, and long operating range. However, errors originating from speckle, inclination of the object, source power fluctuation, ambient light, and noise of the detector limit their usability. In this paper, we propose new design criteria for an error-reduced OTP. The light source module for the system consists of an incoherent light source and a multimode optical fiber for eliminating speckle and shaping a Gaussian beam Intensity profile. A diffuse-reflective white copy paper, which is attached to the object, makes the light intensity distribution on the change-coupled device(CCD). Since the peak positions of the intensity distribution are not related to the various error sources, a sub-pixel resolution signal processing algorithm that can detect the peak position makes it possible to construct an error-reduced OTP system

원자 현미경용 콜로이드 탐침 수직 스프링 상수 측정 (Measurement of Normal Spring Constant of Colloidal Probes for Atomic Force Microscope)

  • A modified thermal noise method was proposed to measure the normal spring constants of the colloidal probes for an atomic force microscope. We used commercial tipless cantilevers (length 150, width 30, nominal k 7.4 N/m) and borosilicate spheres with a diameter of 20 to fabricate colloidal probes. The inverse optical lever sensitivity of both the tipless cantilever and colloidal probes were used to measure the normal spring constant of the colloidal probes. We confirmed the accuracy and usefulness of our method by comparing the measurement results with those obtained using the nanoforce calibrator (NFC), which reportedly has an uncertainty of 1.00%. The modified thermal method showed a good agreement (~10% difference) with the NFC, allowing us to conclude that the modified thermal method could be employed for the effective measurement of the normal spring constants of colloidal probes.

Optimized Working Distance of a Micro-optic OCT Imaging Probe

  • We have investigated optimization of the working distance (WD) for a highly miniaturized imaging probe for endoscopic optical coherence tomography (OCT). The WD is the axial distance from the distal end of the imaging probe to its beam focus, which is demanded for dimensional margins of protective structures, operational safety, or full utilization of the axial imaging range of OCT. With an objective lens smaller than a few hundred micrometers in diameter, a micro-optic imaging probe naturally exhibits a very short WD due to the down-scaled optical structure. For a maximized WD careful design is required with the optical aperture of the objective lens optimally filled by the incident beam. The diffraction-involved effect was taken into account in our analysis of the apertured beam. In this study, we developed a simple design formula on the maximum achievable WD based on our diffraction simulation. It was found that the maximum WD is proportional to the aperture size squared. In experiment, we designed and fabricated very compact OCT probes with long WDs. Our 165-㎛-thick fiber-optic probes provided WDs of 3 mm or longer w ith reasonable OCT imaging performance.

Simple Near-Field Optical Recording Using Bent Cantilever Probes

  • This paper describes our high-density near-field optical recording using bent cantilever fiber probes installed in an atomic force microscope. We conducted a near-field reading of nano-scale hole patterns with a 100 nm spatial resolution and a 25 ${\mu}m$/s scan speed; this implies a capability of a data reading density of 60 Gb/$in^2$ with a 0.25 kbps data transfer rate. In addition, we investigated re-writable near-field recording on photochromic diarylethene films. We successfully recorded erasable memory bits having a minimum width of 600 nm in a writing time as short as 30ms. We found that using a cantilever probe simplifies the setup and operation of the near-field optical recording system and may offer multifunctional recording capabilities.

광섬유 OTDR변위 센서의 탐촉자 (A Probe of Fiber Optic OTDR Displacement Sensor)

  • 광섬유 OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometry) 센서로 사회 기반 구조물의 변위를 측정하기 위한 탐촉자를 개발하였다. 광섬유 OTDR 변위 센서의 외부에서 주어지는 변위에 따라 광손실을 일으키는 굽힘부와 상용 광섬유 커넥터로 구성되었다. 이렇게 구성된 탐촉자는 광커넥터의 양끝에서 반사되는 빛의 신호차이가 커넥터들 사이에서 발생하는 굽힘 변위에 의해서 달라지는 것을 OTDR 센서 본체로 측정하여 변위 변화를 알아낼 수 있도록 하였다. 또한 수 cm의 변위를 일으키는 구조물의 변위를 측정하기 위하여 동일한 단일모드 광섬유에서 이 센서 탐촉자 5개를 직렬형으로 배열하여 사용할 수 있는 다중화된 굽힘 손실형 단일모드 광섬유 변위센서를 제안하고, 이 센서 탐촉자들을 사용하여 다중화 실험을 수행하였다.
