  • We present the first demonstration of the vertical-injection depleted optical thyristor laster diode with InGaAs/InGaAsP multiple quantum well structure. The measured switching voltage and current are 3.36 V and 10 A respectively. The holding voltage and current are respectively 1.37 V, 100 A. The lasing threshold current is 131 mA at 25 C. The output peak wavelength is at 1578 nm at a bias current equal to 1.22 times threshold.

  • Transcribability of pit or land groove structures in replicating an optical disk substrate greatly affects the performance of a high-density optical disk. However, a solidified layer, generated during the polymer filling, deteriorates transcribability because the solidified layer prevents the polymer melt from filling the sub-micro patterns. Therefore, the development of the solidified layer during filling stage of injection molding must be delayed. For this delay, passive heating by insulation layer has been used. In the present study, to examine the development of the solidified layer delayed by passive heating, the flow of polymer melt with passive heating was analyzed. Passive heating markedly delayed the development of the solidified layer, reduced the viscosity of the polymer melt, and increased the fluidity of the polymer melt in the vicinity of the stamper surface with the sub-micro patterns. As a result, we predict that passive heating can improve transcribability of an optical disk substrate. To verify our prediction, we fabricated an optical disk substrate by using passive heating of a mold and measured the transcribability of an optical disk substrate.

  • LGP is a key component of LCD back light unit because it determines the brightness and sharpness of display image. Usually, it has optical patterns fabricated on the bottom surface. In the present paper the LiGA-reflow method was applied to fabricate the LGP mold. Furthermore, the optical simulation considering the replication ratio of pattern height was applied to the pattern design. The optical simulation through systematic correction scheme helped find the optimum distribution of pattern density. Finally, the stamper fabricated by this method was installed in the mold and LGP was produced by injection molding. As a result of luminance measurement for the final product, the average luminance and luminance uniformity was measured 3,180 nit and 84%, respectively. Consequently, the mold fabrication method using the LiGA-reflow and optical simulation(CAE) can save the expense and time compared with the existing fabrication methods(laser ablation and chemical etching).

  • Growing international concern about environmental issues in recent years has led to new proposals for strengthening exhaust emission standards and fuel economy requirements throughout the world. The low emission vehicle(LEV) standards drawn up by the California Air Resources Board(CARB) in the U.S.A are noticeably stringent To cope with this regulation, a reduction of HC emission is the most important challenge for the automotive industry because HC emission levels are severer than any other components emission levels. In this paper, the apparatus for visulalizing the wall film flow in a intake manifold and the spark plug with optical fiber for detecting the signal from diffusion flame are developed to mal,e the HC formation mechanism clear. High speed camera system is also used to elucidate the correlation wall film flow and the diffusion flame. Using these methods, the effect of fuel injection systems such as injection direction, spray angle, atomised injection on HC emission levels is investigated. Consequently, the optimal fuel injection conditions for minimizing the wall film flow and reducing the HC emission are found through this research.

  • In this paper, we attempted a qualitative understanding of mutual injection locking without rigorous mathematics, and analyzed the proposed mutual injection locked light source. Also, a low-cost WDM-PON light source based on mutual injection locking using two unpolarized Fabry-Perot Laser Diodes (F-P LDs), was implemented. The RIN (Relative Intensity Noise) characteristic for the wavelength change of the F-P LD was measured, and when the variable wavelength range was 2.07 nm, it showed a RIN of at least -110 dB/Hz.

  • Weakness process can be called ferrule array and epoxy filling process at connector manufacturing process, and a lot of problems happen as think as general manufacturing process at early investment. Wished to improve this and working environment mend of worker on childhood(planning phase) and problem that is happened at done ferrule array and epoxy injection by emphasis target. By ferrule sorting and Improvement of epoxy filling process, bring authoritativeness elevation of product by fraction defective decrease of product by sized work along with productivity elevation. On the other hand, working jigs are various in characteristics of optical connector manufacturing line. There have been lots of restriction in practice because the applicability of this system is only for single type model though the network should be smooth between lines. Thus, it is not only needed the recognition of necessity in industrial line but also the development of automation system arraying ferrule and filling epoxy in the manufacturing process. It is found that the present system development enhances productivity fairly and prevents industrial disaster in the optical connector manufacturing system.

  • Fresnel lens is a kind of refractive optical lens with various advantages. It has nearly flat shaped optical lens that has small mass. Fresnel lens has number of applications in the compact optical systems. Recently, demands of high quality Fresnel lens for small size optical systems such as illumination units, compact imaging systems, display units, information storage systems, optical detecting units had increased rapidly. Conventional manufacturing process of high quality Fresnel lens is direct machining. However, it is not suitable for mass production because of high cost and long cycle time. Replication method can provide cost effective mass production process. However, there are various issues about replication of Fresnel lens. Fresnel lens has number of sharp blade shape prism. In the replication process, this blade shape causes defects that can affect optical efficiency. In this study, replication processes; injection molding process and UV imprinting process, were developed and evaluated using Fresnel lens that has maximum pattern height of $250\;{\mu}m$ and aspect ratio of 1.5.

  • A transparent poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) optical micro-pyramid array-pattern is designed and fabricated using an injection modeling technique. The device's optical characteristics are tested and analyzed theoretically. In the optical pattern generated using the fabricated PMMA pattern, the components, due to not only refraction but also diffraction, are observed simultaneously. Wave optic modeling and analysis reveals that the energy ratio between the diffraction and refraction in the optical pattern are dependent on the critical dimension of the optical pattern such that the refraction and diffraction tend to be directly and inversely proportional to the pattern dimension, respectively.
