The Optical Cell Compressor and Decompressor using SOA Gates and Optical Feedback Loops (SOA 게이트와 광 궤환 루프를 이용한 광 셀 압축기 및 역압축기)

  • In this paper we proposed a new type of the Optical Cell Compressor and Decompressor which are essential modules in TDM of TDM/WDM Hybrid OPtical ATM Switch structure. This proposed structure frastically lessens hardwares for realization by using SOA gates and optical feedback loops in the process of compression and decompression. Also it is able to compress and decompress the large capacity optical pulse stream just with a few of stages cascade connected. We proved it's possibility for systematic application through 4-bit compression experiment.

The characteristics and optimal modeling of input source for optical device using thin film filter in optical telecommunication network (광통신용 박막필터형 광소자 분석을 위한 최적화 모델링과 특성분석)

  • In this paper, we modeled the incident beam in order to analyze and evaluate the optical thin film device for wavelength division multiplexing in optical telecommunication network. As applied ray tracing method to the optical path, we were compared the accuracy of coupling efficiency simulated by two modeling methods. In the results of sinulation, ceil modeling method was preferred to annual modeling method in micro-optic device because of accuracy for coupling efficiency and Gaussian intensity distribution. In the results of optimal simulation for optical device using thin film filter, the distance (d1) between optical fiber and GRIN lens, the distance (d2) between GRIN lens and thin film filter and the coupling efficiency were 0.24 mm, 0.25 mm and -0.11 ㏈ respectively. As d2 was displaced at 0.25 mm and d1 was varied in order to evaluate the optimal value, d1 and maximum coupling efficiency were 0.24 mm and -0.35㏈, respectively. Then the results of experiment were corresponded to that of optimal simulation by cell modeling and it was possible to analyze the performance for optical device using thin film filter by the simulation.

  • We propose a novel optical configuration for transmissive and reflective mode in the IPS LC cell to improve the viewing angle characteristics in a diagonal direction. The optical design was performed on a Poincar$\dot{e}$ sphere. From the calculation, we confirmed that the proposed configuration provides excellent viewing angle characteristics.

Effect of 2-HEA and EGPA Composition on the Electro-optical Properties of Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal (아크릴계 단량체 2-HEA와 EGPA의 조성에 따른 고분자 분산형 액정(PDLC)의 전기광학적 특성 평가)

  • Over the past several decades, the polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) has received particular attention as a material for developing smart window due to their electro-optical switchable properties. In this study, PDLC cells were fabricated using acrylate monomers, namely 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate (2-HEA) and ethylene glycol phenyl ether acrylate (EGPA), and the effect of the monomer composition on their electro-optical properties was investigated. The monomer mixture with a low viscosity (~10 cps) was easily filled between indium tin oxide (ITO) glasses by capillary action at room temperature. PDLC cells prepared using the mixture ratio of 1 : 9 (2-HEA : EGPA) did not show a complete opaque state at a 0 V condition but exhibited unstable electro-optical properties under an electric field. As the LC composition increased in the reaction mixture for PDLC cell preparation, the $V_{th}$ (threshold voltage) and $V_{sat}$ (saturation voltage) values as well as contrast ratio (CR) increased. $V_{th}$ and $V_{sat}$ values also increased with the cell gap thickness. PDLC cells with a $20{\mu}m$ cell gap thickness exhibited higher CR than those with 10 and $40{\mu}m$ cell gap thicknesses. Particularly, PDLC cells prepared using the mixture ratio of 7 : 3 (2-HEA : EGPA) showed excellent electro-optical properties such as a low driving voltage and high contrast ratio.

  • Cell gap은 LCD(Liquid Crystal Display)의 중요한 파라미터들 중의 하나이다. cell gap이 LCD의 광학적인 성능에 영향을 주기 때문에 정확한 cell gap 측정방법은 제조공정을 향상시키는데 중요하다 특히 최근 고속 영상 디스플레이를 제공할 수 있는 장점 때문에 낮은 cell gap의 LCD가 요구되고 있는 시장 추세에 따라 낮은 cell gap을 측정할 수 있는 기술이 요구되고 있다. LCD의 cell gap 측정 방법들 가운데 가장 보편화되어 있는 것으로 회전편광자법(rotating polarizer method)[1, 2]과 위상보상법(phase compensation method)[3,4]을 들 수 있는데 낮은 셀갭을 정확히 측정하기가 어려우며 주기적인 해가 발생한다는 단점이 있다. (중략)
