  • This study is on the precision of the optical scanner which is suitable for shape modeling and non-contact equipment, comparing with a razer scanner. The optical scanner not only has all merits that non-contact methods have but also improve a veil phenomenon which is a razer scanner's demerits. However, the optical scanner has not been used extensively because the measurements are not very precise and there are not the definite methods of measurement. Hence, this study is to find out how parameters such as camera's hight, angle, luminous intensity, distance to object, and so on have an influence on measuring using the optical scanner and to establish the methods of measuring precision.

  • In these days, wavelength division multiplexing(WDM) all-optical network are being deployed to support various multimedia communication services. In this paper, various WDM all-optical network are discussed, and a design of an all-optical backbone network has been proposed by using multiple self-healing ring technology. The proposed multiple self-healing ring network improves network expandability and efficiency of bandwidth, while it retains simplicity and ease of network control, which are from the nature self-healing ring. Using PDI traffic modeling technique, a well-balanced all-optical backbone network using multiple self-healing ring is designed for the 2010s in Korea.

  • This paper presents a new approach to the calibration of a SCARA robot orientation with a camera modeling that accounts for major sources of camera distortion, namely, radial, decentering, and thin prism distortion. radial distortion causes an inward or outward displacement of a given Image point from its ideal location. Actual optical systems are subject to various degrees of decentering, that is, the optical centers of lens elements are not strictly collinear. Thin prism distortion arises from imperfection in lens design and manufacturing as well as camera assembly It is our purpose to develop the vision system for the pattern recognition and the automatic test of parts and to apply the line of manufacturing.

  • A one-dimensional planar model is considered of the atmosphere with multi-layer clouds illuminated by a mono-directional parallel flux of solar radiation. A new approach is proposed to radiation transfer modeling and daylight background formation for the atmosphere with such clouds that is represented as a heterogeneous multi-layer system each layer of which is described by different optical characteristics. The influence functions of each layer are determined by solutions of the radiation transfer boundary problem with an external monodirectional wide flux while the contribution of multiple scattering and absorption in the layer is taking into account.

  • A sensor modeling via artificial neural network is presented in this paper. The optical sensor has been designed to treasure absolute 3-dimensional positions and orientations of objects in 6-DOF. The method utilizes a triangular pyramidal mirror having an equilateral cross-sectional shape referred as 3-facet mirror. The mirror has three lateral reflective surfaces inclined 45 degrees to its bottom surface. The 3-facet mirror is mounted on the object whose 6-DOF motion is to be measured. As optical components, a He-Ne laser source and three position-sensitive detectors(PSD) are used. The laser beam is emitted from the He-Ne laser source located at the upright position and vertically incident o...

  • An optical measurement method of three dimensional surface profiles which is named the slit beam projection is suggested and practically implemented. This method is intended especially for noncontact and fast digitization of sculptured surfaces for CAD modeling and die manufacturing. Its basic principles are based on geometric optics. Deatiled optical principles and an sub-pixel image processing technique to enhance the measuring resolutions are described in this study. The measuring performances of the slit beam projection are presented and discussed to demonstrate that an actual measuring accuracy of below .+-. 0.2mm can be achived over the whole measuring range(500mm*300mm*200mm)

  • For visual measurement under dynamic scenarios, a zoom lens camera is more flexible than a fixed one. However, the challenges of distortion prediction within the whole focal range limit the widespread application of zoom lens cameras greatly. Thus, a novel sequential distortion correction method for a zoom lens camera is proposed in this study. In this paper, a distortion assessment method without coupling effect is depicted by an elaborated chessboard pattern. Then, the appropriate distortion correction model for a zoom lens camera is derived from the comparisons of some existing models and methods. To gain a rectified image at any zoom settings, a global distortion correction modeling method is developed with bundle adjustment. Based on some selected zoom settings, the optimized quadratic functions of distortion parameters are obtained from the global perspective. Using the proposed method, we can rectify all images from the calibrated zoom lens camera. Experimental results of different zoom lens cameras validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • The basic modeling is analyzed on the optoelectronic properties of CSP-DH laser structure using self-consistent calculation of optical field and the electron-hole distribution in the active region. Laser properties is modelled include gain profile, threshold, near field and far field pattern. This new characterization is allowed for consideration such as carrier spatial hole burning due to strong optical fields which stimulate recombination.
