$K^+$ 이온교환 도파로형 광결합기의 모델링 및 특성 (Modeling and characteristics of $K^+$ ion-exchanged waveguide-type optical coupler)

  • In this study, we performed a modeling for $K^{+}$ ion-exchanged diffused channel waveguide and waveguide-type optical coupler by Wentzel-Kramer-Brillouin(WKB) dispersion equation, normalized field distribution equation for mode and coupled mode theory, and examined the optical-power-dividing of the optical coupler fabricated by using the modeling condition. The optical-power-dividing was observed at the waveguide-type optical coupler with 3[.mu.m] line-width, 6[.mu.m] space between channel waveguides, and 3[mm] interaction length.h.

광통신용 박막필터형 광소자 분석을 위한 최적화 모델링과 특성분석 (The characteristics and optimal modeling of input source for optical device using thin film filter in optical telecommunication network)

  • 본 논문에서는 광전송시스템에서 파장분할다중화 광소자로 사용되는 박막필터형 광소자의 특성 분석 및 평가를 위해 입력광원을 모델링 하였으며 광경로에 대해 광선추적법을 사용하여 전산모의 한 광특성을 실험과 비교, 분석하였다. 그 결과 입력광원에 대한 cell 방식의 모델링이 결합효율의 정확도 및 가우시안 강도분포에 접근성을 볼 때 마이크로 옵틱스형 광소자 분석함에 있어 적합함을 알 수 있다. 박막필터형 광소자에 대한 최적 전산모의 결과 광섬유와 GRIN 렌즈 사이 거리가 0.24mm이며 GRIN 렌즈와 박막필터 사이 거리가 0.25mm일 때 최대 결합효율은 -0.11 ㏈이었으며 동일한 조건에의 실험결과 -0.35 ㏈의 최대 결합효율을 얻었다. 이것은 단심 및 이심페룰, GRIN 렌즈 등과 같은 구성품의 불완전성과 박막필터에 의한 손실을 고려할 때, 전산모의 결과와 매우 일치하는 것으로서 본 연구에서 제안한 입력광원의 모델링을 적용한 전산모의가 박막필터형 광소자의 특성을 예측할 수 있음을 보였다.

  • An extended Fourier modal method (FMM) for optical dipole radiation in three-dimensional photonic structures is proposed. The core elements of the proposed FMM are the stable bidirectional scattering-matrix algorithm for modeling internal optical emission, and a novel optical-dipole-source model that prevents numerical errors induced by the Gibbs phenomenon. Through the proposed scheme, the FMM is extended to model a wide range of source-embedded photonic structures.

  • In an optical disk drive, a feeding system which is used to move the optical pick-up system to the target position and the proper control scheme of it are important in random access performance. Since the effect of control is directly affected by the modeling precision of the real system, the precise modeling to the real system should be acquired. Although a simple linear order modeling to the feeding system of an optical disk drive is useful in understanding of the overall dynamic characteristics, the dynamic characteristics which are belongs to the nonlinear area cannot be predicted correctly. Furthermore, the feeding system of an optical disk drive has many nonlinear characteristics such as a nonlinear friction and backlash. For this reason, the understanding of the nonlinear properties in the feeding system is very important. In this paper, the nonlinear items of the feeding system, friction and backlash, are introduced and the effect of it are investigated. Finally, the mathematical model considering the nonlinear properties is compared to the real system, and some comments of it are given.

Scalar Fourier Modal Method for Wave-optic Optical-element Modeling

  • A scalar Fourier modal method for the numerical analysis of the scalar wave equation in inhomogeneous space with an arbitrary permittivity profile, is proposed as a novel theoretical embodiment of Fourier optics. The modeling of devices and systems using conventional Fourier optics is based on the thin-element approximation, but this approach becomes less accurate with high numerical aperture or thick optical elements. The proposed scalar Fourier modal method describes the wave optical characteristics of optical structures in terms of the generalized transmittance function, which can readily overcome a current limitation of Fourier optics.

  • There is a considerable interest in tunable DFB-LD for their use in OFDM and coherent optical communications. In this paper, A modeling of ${\lambda}/4$-shifted tunable wavelength three electrode DFB-LD was performed considering the spatial hole burning within a laser diode cavity. The modeling will show design paramenters' requirement for high-speed and broad bandwidth lasers. The simulations of modeling prove that the continuous tuning range is about 3nm and the SMSR is about several dB. We showed that the optical power and carrier density distribution along z for several dc current with SHB. It was shown that prove that optical power and carrier density along cavity are changed and thismeans that modeling is correct.

Optimization of Ti-indiffused LiNbO3Optical Waveguide for Fiber Coupling

  • The structure of Ti:LiNbO$_3$optical waveguide with a mode size far different from that of single mode optical fiber has been optimized by tapering the waveguide ends. This work was focused on determining the optimized sets of parameters for the fabrication of low-loss Ti indiffused optical waveguides in LiNbO$_3$. Numerical and analytical modeling were applied to simulate the guiding quality and to determine the mode sizes. Based on these modeling results, new waveguide structures with tapered ends have been defined, fabricated and characterized in the respect of the coupling of fiber to Ti-indiffused LiNbO$_3$waveguide.

  • CD-ROM(Compact Disk-Read Only Memory) is very attractive storage media because it has much storage space but is small size and portable. Optical pickup, one of the most important parts for reading data on a CD-ROM, is not produced tuned up. For the use of goods, we must tune up the optical pickup by adjusting the screw for adjustment. First, we developed analog servo system for optical pickup tuners. For eliminating some problems in analog servo system, this paper designed the modeling of digital servo system for optical pickup tuner. Though the characteristics of optical pickup are changed, the digital servo system for optical pickup tuner can easily apply to all pickup, and can reduce the measurement error among the optical pickup tuners. For the purpose of confirming the designed digital servo system, we produced data that specify the disk vibration and the disk eccentricity, and simulated servo system with MATLAB.
