  • We have constructed a scanning confocal microscope by directly oscillating an optical fiber in two different ways. Either a piezoelectric transducer or a tuning fork was used for the oscillation. Six frames of $640{\times}480$ pixel image were obtained in a second with piezoelectric oscillation and only one image of the same size was obtained in a second with tuning fork oscillation. Oscillation of optical fiber did not cause amy distortion of confocal images.

  • In this paper, a method is proposed for simultaneously measuring the front and back surface profiles of transparent micro-optical components. The proposed method combines a dual-wavelength digital holographic microscope with liquids to record holograms at different wavelengths, and then numerically reconstructs the three-dimensional phase information to image the front and back sides of the sample. A theoretical model is proposed to determine the surface information, and imaging of an achromatic lens is demonstrated experimentally. Unlike conventional interferometry, our proposed method supports nondestructive measurement and direct observation of both front and back profiles of micro-optical elements.

  • A volumetric 3D display system based on a rotating two dimensional color LED array is set up. It has a cylinder display space ${\Phi}800{\times}640mm3$ which is composed of 256 slices of pictures in one 3D image with each slice $320{\times}256$ LED pixels. The volumetric image has 4 gray scales and 64 colors. The main structure and working principle of the system is described in detail.

  • According to depth cues of an image, the optical engine of the solid volumetric true 3D display can project a sequence of slices of a 2D image to corresponding display at a set of liquid shutters (LC) locating at different depth. A single DLP optical engine developed for a solid volumetric true 3D display consists of a lamp, reflector, color wheel, hollow integrator, relays, DMD, and projection lens. The simulation results show that the optical engine designed for single DLP volumetric true 3D display satisfies the requirements.

  • Biochip-based diagnostic technology is an effective, time- and money- saving way. But, biochip analyzer including CCD imaging system has a complete optical system. It is one of reasons that the cost of biochip analyzer is expensive with CCD imaging system. In this paper, We suggested the simple and effective optical system for biochip analyzer with CCD imaging system. It consists of two parts with the same structure but opposite direction. Each part consists of achromatic doublet and meniscus. Suggested optical system has less lenses than existing system and more efficiently.

  • Non-contacting optical microscopes are increasingly used in recent industrial applications of probes for coordinate measuring machines. They have been found more efficient than conventional touch trigger porbes with ball tips especially in inspecting small-sized objects. There are two major factors affecting measuring accuracy: (1) geometric relations between coordinate systems, (2) magnification ratios of a microscope. In order to determine the magnification ratios exactly, optical imaging of edge was theroretically analyzed and practically adopted to image processing for edge detection. In addition, this paper proposes a geometric calibration method to obtain exact coordinates of measured points from the relations between the machine coordinate system and the image. In the method, the error according to the squareness between the machine axises was also removed. The method was practically adopted to a real coordinate measuring machine. An ultraprecision measurement of 0.2 um uncertainty can be practically achieved.
