Development of Optical Video Device for HD-SDI Video Signal Transmission (HD-SDI 비디오 신호 전송을 위한 광 비디오 전송 장치 개발)

  • We have developed an optical video transmission device for HD-SDI signal transmission. The optical transmitter/receiver unit operates at DC 5 volt and small enough to be attaced near surveillance camera. They have internal voltage regulating circuits to supply 3.3V to other circuits inside the unit. The optical transmitter is composed of cable driver, laser diode driver, and laser diode. The optical receiver is composed of photodiode, limiting amp, and cable equalizer. The wavelength of the trasmitter was 1.3 um, and optical power was -5dBm, and the speed was 1.485Gbps. The receiver sensitivity was -23 dBm. We confirmed that the optical device can transmit HD-SDI video through 30 km optical fiber without any interruption.

A Study on TTX Traction Characteristics using Measurement System (계측시스템을 활용한 틸팅열차 추진장치 특성 연구)

  • Tilting trains are currently in operation in 13 countries around the world. With the advances in tilting technology, verification of economic efficiency, and changes in economic situations, the introduction of tilting trains will rapidly spread across the globe. The measurement system is composed of the industrial computers installed in the console and the measurement racks mounted on each car. It is utilized to accumulate the data by the communication card and the optical cable. The optical cable and power cable are coupled at the connector located in joint of train to make easy to disconnect car each other. The signal conditioner is designed to choose and to extend the channel for each sensor readily. The sensor measurement rack has adopted as decentralization method. It is installed in each car to minimize the cable length. In also, it is manufactured based on 19"rack and covered to protect the cable. In this study, the programs for measurement and analysis were also developed to understand the traction system characteristics of TTX. Using this measurement system, we studied that acceleration test, re-powering test, and gradually powering test. The acceleration performance of TTX is 1.735 km/h/s, and it is inner standard value. The notch test result from 1 to 7 steps, DC link voltage is under standard value, and the output electric current of inverter is controlled normally. From the test results, we saw the performances of the traction systems are normal.

  • PCI Express (PCIe) bus, which was only used as an internal I/O bus of a computer system, has expanded its function to outside of a system, with progress of PCIe switching processor. In particular, advanced features of PCIe switching processor enable PCIe bus to serve as an interconnection network as well as connecting external devices. As PCIe switching processors more advanced, it is required to consider the different adapter card architecture. This study developed multipurpose adapter cards by applying an on-board optical module, a latest optical communications element, in order to improve transfer distance and utilization. The performance evaluation confirmed that the new adapter cards with long cable can provide the same bandwidth as that of the existing adapter cards with short copper cable.

Monitoring System of Rock Mass Displacement and Temperature Variation for KURT using Optical Sensor Cable (광섬유센서케이블을 이용한 지하연구시설의 지반변위 및 온도변화 감시시스템 구축)

  • The optical fiber cable acting as a sensor was embedded in the underground research tunnel and portal area in order to monitor their stability and the spatial temperature variation. This system includes two types of sensing function to monitor the distributed strain and temperature along the line, where sensor cable is installed, not a point sensing. According to the results of one year monitoring around the KURT, there is no significant displacement or movement at the tunnel wall and portal slope. However, it would be able to aware of some phenomena as an advance notice at the tunnel wall which indicates the fracturing in rockmass and shotcrete fragmentation before rock falls accidently as well as movement of earth slope. The measurement resolution for rock mass displacement is 1 mm per 1 m and it covers 30 km length with every 1m interval in minimum. In temperature, the cable measures the range of $-160{\sim}600^{\circ}C$ with $0.01^{\circ}C$ resolution according to the cable types. This means that it would be applicable to monitoring system for the safe operation of various kinds of facilities having static and/or dynamic characteristics, such as chemical plant, pipeline, rail, huge building, long and slim structures, bridge, subway and marine vessel. etc.

  • In this report, we test the features that the outside environment of subscriber lines have an effects on ADSL's electrical transmission performance with a suspected cases of line. I observed an influence of AM broadcasting jamming, and also analysis of an incoming lines of various kinds, a line distance, a connection way, Bridge Tap influencing ADSL's electrical transmis-sion performance. To have a maximum effect of Adsl electrical transmission, I came to a conclusion that we have to make use of the older copper wire cable line to fit the situation at the present and we must change it into the excellent optical fiber cable one by one.

  • CCTV network has been implemented to transmit the image information of platform, ticket gate and transfer section to local headquarters in the KNR(Korean National Railroad). But, communication system for transferring image information around accident field or wayside has not been established ret. thus, at Present implementation of communication equipment is necessary for dynamic image of unspecified accident to be transmitted to headquarters. Copper cable communication network is run by KNR, but it is processing installation of optical cable in connection with the implemental plan for high-speed network from now on. And, the capacity of communication channel will be guaranteed much more than now between station and station. station and central headquarters when optical cable is completed. This study analyzes the image equipment of field for transmission and estimated matters to transmit image information of accident field to headquarters with using communication infrastructure. And, the study considers implemental method of communication network for long-distance image transmission from dozens to hundreds kilometers.

Development of Smart Tendon Instrumented with Optical FBG Sensors (FBG 센서를 내장한 스마트 강연선 개발)

  • This paper reports an attempt to develop 7-wire steel tendon which is instrumented with optical FBG sensors. The tendon is devised to replace the king cable, which is located in the center of the tendon, by a steel tube in which the FBG sensor are attached along the hole using a high-mobility polyester resin. The circular steel tube has typical of 5 mm outer diameter and 1 mm inner diameter, and can easily be manufactured by means of an pultrusion process. Using the tube, in this study, three different types of one meter-long smart tendons are fabricated depending on mixture ratio of polyester resin and initiator. The performance of the FBG sensors as well as mechanical characteristics of the prototype are tested through the tensile test. Test results shows that the proposed smart tendon is in principle very effective for measuring the working strain of the tendon.
