  • With a significant role of textbooks in shaping students' opportunities to learn, textbook analysis is essential to reveal these opportunities to learn the concept of area and volume. This research aims to show how the Korean textbooks pace students' learning of area and volume across grades by scrutinizing the textbooks with students' developmental sequences, called learning trajectories. Tasks about area and volume in all Korean elementary textbooks (grade 1 to 6) are coded with the specific developmental stages suggested in learning trajectories. As a result, we find considerable misalignment between the textbooks and the learning trajectories. The textbooks provide opportunities to experience developmental progressions of area and volume later than ages suggested in the learning trajectories. In addition, learning opportunities are significantly concentrated in grade 5 for area and grade 6 for volume with heavy emphases on applying formulas of area or volume. The findings from this research provides important implications concerning design of textbooks as well as improving students' opportunities in the mathematics classrooms.

  • This paper is written to identify the opportunities and risks of the declaration of the end of the Korean War with North Korea. The declaration has been seriously discussed in the course of negotiation for the denuclearization of North Korea especially in 2018. For this purpose, this paper revisits the concepts of related terms such as peace, peace regime, peace agreement and declaration of the end of war. It assesses the background and intention of North Korean request for the declaration. Then, it analyzes opportunities and risks regarding South Korea, if it agrees on the declaration. As a result, this paper found that declaration of the end of the Korean War could provide South Korea with opportunities such as a progress on the North Korean denuclearization, contribution to the peace regime on the Korean Peninsula and improvement on South Korea and North Korea relations. At the same time, the declaration could bring risks such as the dismantlement of the United Nations Command, demands of the withdrawal of US forces in Korea, a possible stop of North Korean denuclearization process and the weakening of South Korean peoples' awareness on North Korean threats. South Korea need to heed more on the risks than the opportunities, because the national security should be handled with caution.

  • As markets and industries continue to evolve rapidly, technology opportunity discovery (TOD) has become critical to a firm's survival. From a common consensus that TOD based on a firm's capabilities is a valuable method for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and reduces the risk of failure in technology development, studies for TOD based on a firm's capabilities have been actively conducted. However, previous studies mainly focused on a firm's technological capabilities and rarely on business capabilities. Since discovered technologies can create market value when utilized in a firm's business, a firm's current business capabilities should be considered in discovering technology opportunities. In this context, this study proposes a TOD method that considers both a firm's business and technological capabilities. To this end, this study uses patent data, which represents the firm's technological capabilities, and trademark data, which represents the firm's business capabilities. The proposed method comprises four steps: 1) Constructing firm technology and business capability matrices using patent classification codes and trademark similarity group codes; 2) Transforming the capability matrices to preference matrices using the fuzzy function; 3) Identifying a target firm's candidate technology opportunities using the collaborative filtering algorithm; 4) Recommending technology opportunities using a portfolio map constructed based on technology similarity and applicability indices. A case study is conducted on a security firm to determine the validity of the proposed method. The proposed method can assist SMEs that face resource constraints in identifying technology opportunities. Further, it can be used by firms that do not possess patents since the proposed method uncovers technology opportunities based on business capabilities.

  • The goal of junior colleges is to conduct professional education. But that purpose itself has faded for the distortion of goal. This study is geared to present solution to the problems facing tourism majors of junior colleges. What cause these problems is, first, imprudent increase of recruitments in the popular area, second, tourism companies tendency not to give them proper career opportunities, finally, lack of professional consciousness. To solve these problems, improvement of educational circumstance of junior colleges enlargement of the career opportunities of tourism companies are necessary and on the part of students, they need to receive enough education for personality and the enhancement of ability.

  • Colleges and Universities are one of our whole life educational facilities for the disabled regarding job training opportunities are academic goal achievement. However it is usual for the disabled students to be deprived of their opportunities to study and to prepare their future life on campus because of physical obstacles of campus environment. Therefore this study provides what are the physical obstacles on campus, how to use the college's facilities for the disabled to achieve their academic goals and the have job training opportunities just like ordinar students, and how improve the campus environment which is based on concept Universal Design

  • Purpose: The purpose was to identify marriage expectation and related factors among college students. Method: Data was collected by questionnaires from 329 college students in K university in Daegu. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Result: Marriage expectation among college students was significantly different according to gender, age and opportunities for employment. Marriage expectation among college students correlated with sex role attitudes. Significant predictors influencing marriage expectation were age, opportunities for employment, mother's job, and sex role attitudes, A combination of these predictors accounted for 10.3% of the variance in marriage expectation. Conclusion: These findings show that marriage expectation is influenced by age, opportunities for employment, mother's job, and sex role attitudes. Therefore when nursing interventions are developed to improve marriage expectation, these factors need to be considered.

  • The unique features of HTS offer opportunities and challenges to a number of applications. In this paper we focus on NMR and MRI magnets, illustrating them with the NMR/MRI magnets that we are currently and will shortly be engaged: a 1.3 GHz NMR magnet, an "annulus" magnet, and an $MgB_2$whole-body MRI magnet. The opportunities with HTS include: 1) high fields (e.g., 1.3 GHz magnet); 2) compactness (annulus magnet); and 3) enhanced stability despite liquid-helium-free operation ($MgB_2$whole-body MRI magnet). The challenges include: 1) a large screening current field detrimental to spatial field homogeneity (e.g., 1.3 GHz magnet); 2) uniformity of critical current density (annulus magnet); and 3) superconducting joints ($MgB_2$magnet).

  • Cognitive radio MAC protocol should allow secondary users to access unused or under-utilized spectrum without interference to primary users. For cognitive MAC protocol, one of the important issues is how to select the channel opportunities for secondary users. In this paper, we propose a novel cognitive MAC protocol to allocate channel opportunities for the secondary users based on the prediction of future availability. The proposed MAC protocol can reduce the interference to primary users and increase throughput using multiple channels.

  • This paper explores the difference between domestic new ventures(DNV) and international new ventures (INV). New ventures pursue business opportunities in their target markets armed with experienced founding team, distinctive competitive strategies, and different entry time at foreign market. As a result, INVs were founded by larger number of founding team and more experienced in international business. Also INVs enter earlier global market and pursue business opportunities than DNVs. in In terms of competitive strategy, INVs highlight continuous quality improvement and diverse customers compared to DNVs focused on intellectual property rights. INVs get higher profitabilities in financial performance. Finally, this paper suggests some managerial implications for new venture to explore business opportunities in the global markets.
