  • The attachment of mobile vehicle is necessary for the automated operation on the inclined or vertical walls of steel structures. Since the vehicle requires attaching devices additionally, its overall efficiency can be reduced by the devices. Therefore, external shapes of mobile vehicles have to be researched to give the effective movement on the vertical face. For the design of mobile vehicle, the guideline has been derived from the modeling of wall-climbing, so that the vehicle should have a specific external shape for vertical movement due to the gravitational force. Hence, some adequate arrangement of attaching device to the mobile vehicle has been presented for the effective movement. In the experiments with four permanent magnetic wheels, a plausible result was achieved as a vertical attaching force of 185.2(N), a friction force of 153.8(N) and a curvature radius of 1.4m. The mobile vehicle should be modified according to the proposed design guideline, and then it could be applied to a specific operation as an appropriate external shape. Also, Further research is recommended on an optimal posture and a moving method in a specific application, as the attaching force of the vehicle can be affected by its posture.

  • As the upending is one of the critical steps in the installation of offshore structure, datail procedure of upending operation is studied in the paper. For larger offshore structure installation, launching method is often applied. However after launching, the upending process is to be followed. To ensure successful upending operation, datail process is analysed considering various factors affecting on the operation including reserved buoyancy, free flotation position, seabed clearance, ballast and hook load. To investigate the influence of each factor on the procedure, twelve numerical jacket models with various dimensions are simulated and studied. From the study, it is revealed that the increase of buoyance and decrease of self weight generate a large seabed clearance. The law seabed clearance during flooding creates higher hook load and height. The paper also introduces a guideline for the related structure design and construction with the effects of contribution factors in the upending operation.

  • Objectives : We developed and proposed a guideline for safety and performance assessment of electric cupping apparatus(Class 2 medical device). Methods : We drafted the guideline for safety and performance assessment of electric cupping apparatus by referring the existing standards and guideline, based on online questionnaire for Korean medical doctors and measurement data from commercially available products. Physical dimension of cups and inner vacuum pressure were acquired for the measurement in order to achieve the purposes. Results : This guideline only can be applied to electric cupping apparatus for enhancing blood circulation by employing negative pressure generated by electricity. Seven items of appearance and label, operation test of pump, variation test of input electricity, vacuum level test, vacuum sustain test, cup-size dependent test, noise level test are suggested for evaluation subjects and methods required for electric cupping devices. Requirements for the design and development of electric cupping devices are suggested: vacuum level indicator, vacuum generation rate, pressure control, valve detachment stability, cup comparability, safety measure, surge protection, user friendliness, instruction for use (IFU). Conclusions : We proposed a guideline for safety and performance assessment of electric cupping apparatus to improve the quality of relating products and aid the commercialization of them, by aiming higher industrial competitiveness of the medical device sectors in Korea. Discussion with related institutes such as industry, academy and government is further required. Public hearings also need to be held prior to the establishment of a final guideline and standard.

  • In order to commercialize the track systems including the turnouts developed in Korea, the guideline of technical and systematic performance evaluation considering local environment was established on Aug. 2010. It consists of a technical compatibility, laboratory test and in-service test. Technical compatibility and laboratory test of the domestically-developed swing-nose crossing turnout on slab track(F18.5) were evaluated according to the guideline. And then in-service test was performed for the turnout installed at the 2nd phase site of Kyung-Bu HSR. In-service test is comprised of monitoring, and field and on-board test during KTX operation, where monitoring is to check the maintainability, and field and on-board test is to confirm structural and running safety. This paper is intended to explain the requirements for the in-serve test and analyze the results of monitoring and the data measured at field and on-board. Based on the in-service test, it is proven that performance of the domestically-developed swing-nose crossing turnout on slab track(F18.5) well satisfies the requirements of the guideline.

  • In this paper, a fundamental study for developing and introducing a new assessment method of the 'Energy Performance' in G-SEED that uses dynamic building energy simulations was conducted by comparing and analyzing the corresponding issues of domestic and foreign green building certification systems. The most significant part of the new assessment method to be developed was a development of a modeling guideline for a reference building using dynamic building energy simulations. In this paper, the composition and detailed contents of the guideline was created to comply with domestic energy codes. In addition, one of the most influential part of the result in the simulations, the 24-hour building operation schedule for a reference building, was created considering the equity with the ECO2 program that is the evaluation tool of one of the current assessment methods in the "Energy Performance". In order to improve the completeness of this guideline, it is necessary to continue the process of supplementation in the future, however, this paper is expected to be of great significance as the beginning of the research.

  • This paper suggests an example guideline of a safety zone layout for the domestic LNG Truck-To-Ship (TTS) bunkering. The safety zone is one of the controlled area in LNG bunkering and its layout is required as a fundamental safety barrier. While the international standard provides a layout methodology of the safety zone, its detail application is not user-friendly and only possible with a level of the process engineering. In the domestic case, the enforcement regulations are applied for LNG bunkering but the safety zone is not properly defined for TTS operation. Considerations are made for the intuitive approach of the safety zone layout and an example guideline is suggested for application in the domestic TTS bunkering. A technical background of the guideline is described and its applicability is demonstrated with regard to the characteristics of TTS bunkering. The findings of the study are summarized in association with a practical layout of the safety zone, contributing to the safety culture in the domestic LNG bunkering.

  • Personal noise exposure was assessed in railroad operators working in 40 operation units including the Gyeongbu line, Honam line, and Janghang line between 2004 and 2006. 8-hour TWA were assessed based on the MOL (Ministry of Labor) guideline on noise evaluation, and 17% of these measurements exceeded 85 dBA while 70% were over 80 dBA. When the ACGIH TLV is adopted, 40% of measurements were over TLV (85 dBA). The noise exposure risk of railroad operators was higher for diesel locomotive operation and longer operational distances; in addition, the risk was higher for passenger car operation compared to freight car driving. Given that in Korea, over the past 30 years diesel locomotives have provided most of the railway's motive power and that hearing protective equipment is not likely to be used by workers during operation, railroad operators are at a high risk of noise-induced hearing loss. The result of audiometric test among 568 railroad operators showed that 32.6% of those tested had a hearing threshold shift of more than 40 dB. In conclusion, this study calls for more fundamental measures including noise control countermeasures within the operation areas, development of equipment that generates less noise and adopting limitation on the operation distance for a work shift.
