SPCBC: A Secure Parallel Cipher Block Chaining Mode of Operation based on logistic Chaotic Map

  • Several block cipher modes of operation have been proposed in the literature to protect sensitive information. However, different security analysis models have been presented for attacking them. The analysis indicated that most of the current modes of operation are vulnerable to several attacks such as known plaintext and chosen plaintext/cipher-text attacks. Therefore, this paper proposes a secure block cipher mode of operation to thwart such attacks. In general, the proposed mode combines one-time chain keys with each plaintext before its encryption. The challenge of the proposed mode is the generation of the chain keys. The proposed mode employs the logistic map together with a nonce to dynamically generate a unique set of chain keys for every plaintext. Utilizing the logistic map assures the dynamic behavior while employing the nonce guarantees the uniqueness of the chain keys even if the same message is encrypted again. In this way, the proposed mode called SPCBC can resist the most powerful attacks including the known plaintext and chosen plaintext/cipher-text attacks. In addition, the SPCBC mode improves encryption time performance through supporting parallelized implementation. Finally, the security analysis and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed mode is robust compared to the current modes of operation.

Development of Evaluation Methodology on the Performance of BTL Sewer Rehabilitation Projects (하수관거정비 BTL사업의 효과분석 및 방안 수립 연구)

  • It requires an interim performance assessment for BTL business of the sewerage rehabilitation which continues from 2005 till now. Means, It is necessary to make an interim performance assessment and an analysis of an business effect of the sewerage rehabilitation BTL projects which still continues, and we presented an improvement method of the new sewerage rehabilitation project in future. This paper has conducted an analysis of the business effect for 3 local government BTL projects which are completed and under operation as of now in Jincheon-Gun, Cheongju-Si and Gangjin-Gun. As a method of business effect analysis, we conducted a business effect of the 3 places using the index set which we previously set for the business effect analysis. The index set in this research was sectionalized to an improvement effect of operating wastewater treatment plant, an benefit effect of the direct cost, an benefit effect of the indirect cost and an environment friendly effect. We, in this paper, conducted an business effect analysis for 3 sewerage rehabilitation BTL projects which are completed or under operation recently as a demonstration, however we judge that an business effect analysis shall be conducted in a stage that a significant time for operation has passed since the completion of the construction in order to induce an actual business effect of the sewerage rehabilitation BTL project.

Design and Implementation of EMS for Real-Time Power Generation Control of Wind Farm Based on Wake Effect Optimization (후류 영향 최적화 기반 실시간 풍력발전단지 발전 제어용 EMS의 설계 및 구현)

  • This paper aimed to design and implement an EMS for real-time power generation control based on wake effect optimization of wind farm, and then to test it in commercial operating wind farm. For real-time control, we proposed the wake band-based optimization and setting the wake effect distance limit, and when the wake effect distance limit was set to 7D in the actual wind farm layout, the calculation time was improved by about 93.94%. In addition, we designed and implemented the script-based EMS for flexible operation logic management in preparation for unexpected issues during testing, and it was installed and tested on a wind farm in commercial operation. However, three issues arose during the testing process. These are the communication interface problem of meteorological tower, the problem of an abnormal wake effect, and the problem of wind turbine yaw control. These issues were solved by modifying the operation logic using EMS's script editor, and the test was successfully completed in the wind farm in commercial operation.

  • There are some factors which cause the profits from the production to be decreased or increased. They are, for example, the rise in efficiency of production facilities resulting from the development of the scientific technique, the changes of purchase price of those, and the drop in efficiency of those owing to there long-term operation. In this connection, an manager can get the highest profit by deciding the proper time of new facilities replacement for those in operation or in being planned, which leads to good management planning of his manufactaring business for a given period or a long time. Main purpose of this is the study of how we decide the optimal time or facilities replacement in order to maximize the total profits for a given period by considering them as continous function as to the time in the case where a machineng is set. The results are following: 1. The definition of profit function is in duced in consideration of the breakdowns caused from continous operation of the machinery. 2. The necessary conditions are obtained for the optimal time of replacement and find out the methods of its solution. 3. Comparing between the 'Short cut' method and method in this paper, we obtained that our method is more realistic.

  • In this paper, a direct method for obtaining the trajectory set points is investigated in discrete-time, which is different from the other conventional schemes. We consider the tracking of a straight line path, where the trajectory set points for manipulator control are determined exactly on the straight line path. For the purpose of the munimum-time operation of manipulators, the problem is formulated as a maximization of the Cartesian distance between two consecutive servo time instants. The maximization is subject to the smoothness and torque constraints. Several algorithms are developed and utilized to maximize the Cartesian distance. The proposed approach has been simulated on a VAX-11/780 computer to verify its performance.

  • An H.264 algorithm is commonly used for video compression applications. This algorithm requires a large number of data computations, for example, the sum of absolute difference (SAD) operation. We analyzed H.264 reference encoding workloads. The H.264 encoding program has 8.78% SAD operation. The SAD operation is to sum up 16 difference-values in H.264 $4{\times}4$ sub-blocks. In order to accelerate SAD operations, we implemented an application specific instruction-set processor (ASIP) that can execute SAD and data transfer instructions. The proposed coprocessor has an absolute value generator and a carry save adder (CSA) unit to sum up 8 difference-values per one clock cycle. We completed SAD operation in 2 clock cycles. Experimental results show that the performance is improved by 34% of total execution time.

Numerical Analysis of Cooling Channels for Injection Molding Cycle Time Improvement of Plastic Horn Cover for an Automobile (차량용 플라스틱 혼 커버의 사출성형 싸이클 타임 개선을 위한 냉각 채널의 수치해석 연구)

  • When producing a plastic horn cover for an automobile, since the interval between the ribs on the inner surface is narrow, conventional cooling channels cannot be applied and cooling of the mold is difficult. For this reason, the molding operation cannot be completed within a set cycle time. In this study, a conformal cooling channel was applied on the mold to solve the cooling problem. Injection molding simulation was carried out to confirm the effectiveness of the conformal cooling channel. In the analysis results, the mold temperature at the rib section decreased by 33%, and the mold temperature also decreased by 31%. This reduction in temperature allowed for molding within a set cycle time and demonstrated the effectiveness of the conformal cooling channel.

  • The interest of version management is increasing in electronic commerce requiring data mining and documents processing system related to digital governmentapplications. In this paper, we define a change set that is to manage historicalinformation and to maintain XML documents during a long period of time and propose several storage policies of XML documents using a change set. A change set includes a change oper-ation set and temporal dimensions and a change operation set is composed with schema change operations and data change operations. We pro-pose three storage policies using a change set. Three storage policies are (1) storing all the change sets, (2) storing the change sets and the versions periodically. (3) storing the aggregation of change sets and the versions at a point of proper time. Also, we compare the performance between the existing storage policy and the proposed storage policies. Though the performance evaluation, we show that the method to store the aggregation of change sets and the versions at a point of proper time outperforms others.

Health Care Optimization by Maximizing the Air-Ambulance Operation Time

  • Employing the available technologies and utilizing the advanced means to improve the level of health care provided to citizens in their various locations. Citizens have the right to get a proper health care services despite the location of their residency or the distance from the health care delivery centers, a goal that can be achieved by utilizing air ambulance systems. In such systems, aircrafts and their life spans are the essential component, the flight duration of the aircraft during its life span is determined by the maintenance schedule. This research, enhances the air ambulance systems by presenting a proposal that maximizes the aircraft flight duration during its life span. The enhancement will be reached by developing a set of algorithms that handles the aircraft maintenance problem. The objective of these algorithms is to minimize the maximum completion time of all maintenance tasks, thus increasing the aircraft operation time. Practical experiments performed to these algorithms showed the ability of these algorithms to achieve the desired goal. The developed algorithms will manage the maintenance scheduling problem to maximize the uptime of the air ambulance which can be achieved by maximizing the minimum life of spare parts. The developed algorithms showed good performance measures during experimental tests. The 3LSL algorithm showed a higher performance compared to other algorithms during all performed experiments.

An ASIP Design for Deblocking Filter of H.264/AVC (H.264/AVC 표준의 디블록킹 필터를 가속하기 위한 ASIP 설계)

  • Though a deblocking filter of H.264/AVC provides enhanced image quality by removing blocking artifact on block boundary, the complex filtering operation on this process is a dominant factor of the whole decoding time. In this paper, we designed an ASIP to accelerate deblocking filter operation with the proposed instruction set. We designed a processor based on a MIPS structure with LISA, simulated a deblocking later model, and compared the execution time on the proposed instruction set. In addition, we generated HDL model of the processor through CoWare's Processor Designer and synthesized with TSMC 0.25um CMOS cell library by Synopsys Design Compiler. As the result of the synthesis, the area and delay time increased 7.5% and 3.2%, respectively. However, due to the proposed instruction set, total execution performance is improved by 18.18% on average.
