철도선로의 용량추정체계 (The Capacity Estimation System for Railroad)

  • There are two methodologies to increase transport capacity of railway. One is to invest railroad equipment or vehicles, and the other is to improve operation efficiency through optimization. All of these is intended to increase transport capacity by improving the line capacity. So far, we treat the line capacity as the criteria for evaluating investment alternatives or for restricting train frequencies, and this criteria is calculated statical and experimental numerical formula. But, line capacity has special attribute that changes dynamically according to operational conditions, so there is a need of new line capacity estimation system. The Purpose of this paper is to present a new estimation system of line capacity based on the probability simulation and its applications.

  • IGBTS are widely used for the industrial inverters in the mid power range at low voltage (440V$\~$660V) application. Advantageous features of the device are simple gate drive and high speed switching capability. Due to these advantages the application of IGBTS is enlarging into the high power application. However, to increase the power handling capacity at lower input voltage level, the current rating in each bridge arm must be enlarged. Therefore the parallel operation of IGBT devices is essentially needed. This paper describes the feasible parallel structures of the power circuit for the mid & the high power inverters and introduces the important design condition for the parallel operation of IGBT devices. To verify feasibility of the IGBT parallel operation, the feature of several IGBT devices (EUPEC, SEMIKRON's IGBT) are investigated and the power stacks are implemented and tested with these devices. The experimental results show the good characteristics for the parallel operation of IGBTS.

전기구동 자동차용 리튬이온 배터리의 고효율 운전을 위한 냉방 및 난방 시스템 설계에 대한 이론적 접근법 (Theoretical approach on the heating and cooling system design for an effective operation of Li-ion batteries for electric vehicles)

  • 본 연구에서는 전기구동 자동차에 동력원으로 사용되는 고전압 및 고용량 배터리의 고효율 운전을 위하여 배터리 열관리 시스템 기술을 소개하고 이론적 설계 방법에 소개하고 한다. 이를 위하여 전기구동 자동차의 배터리로 많이 사용되는 리튬이온 배터리의 고효율 운전을 위한 발열 모델링을 제시하였고, 열원의 종류에 따른 냉방 및 난방 시스템 설계를 에너지 평형식을 이용하여 부하를 계산하였다. 특히, 리튬이온 배터리의 발열 모델링을 이용하여 충전 및 방전 시 발열 반응열과 혹서기 및 혹한기시 배터리 작동의 최적 온도를 유지하기 위한 냉방과 난방 설계 기술을 제시하였다. 전기구동 자동차 종류에 따라 배터리 사용 비중이 다르기 때문에 효율적인 배터리 열관리를 위하여 계절별 및 작동 모드별 부하에 따른 배터리 열관리 기술을 제안하였다. 또한, 냉방 부하가 가장 큰 여름철 동일 조건에서 외부 공기 온도가 같다고 가정하면 냉방 능력은 수랭식 냉매 방법이 가장 크며 공랭식 방법이 가장 작게 나타난다.

실험적 용량산정 방법 비교 연구 (Comparing Empirical Methods of Highway Capacity Estimation)

  • PURPOSES : Capacity is a main factor of determining the number of lane in highway design or the level of service in road on operation. Previous studies showed that breakdown may occur before capacity is reached, and then it was concluded that capacity is a stochastic value rather than a deterministic one. In general, estimating capacity is based on average over maximum traffic volume observed for capacity state. This method includes the empirical distribution method(EDM) and would underestimate capacity. This study estimated existing empirical methods of estimating stochastic highway capacity. Among the studied methods are the product limit method(PLM) and the selected method(SM). METHODS : Speed and volume data were collected at three freeway bottleneck sites in Cheonan-Nonsan and West Sea Freeway. The data were grouped into a free-flow state or capacity state with speeds observed in the bottlenecks and the upstream. The data were applied to the empirical methods. RESULTS : The results show that the PLM and SM estimated capacity higher than EDM. The reason is that while the EDM is based on capacity observations only, the PLM and SM are based on free-flow high volumes and capacity observations. CONCLUSIONS : The PLM and SM using both free-flow and capacity observations would be improved to enhance the reliability of the capacity estimation.

  • This paper is investigated to variation of wave power generation operation rate, operating capacity and output with the wave conditions represented by wave height-period window. By the use of the long-term wave data from 1979 to 2002 which is provided by Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute(KORDI), we calculated the monthly variation of significant wave height(Hs), zero-up crossing period(Tz) and distribution of wave appearance rate. And using the same wave data, it was charted the Hs-Tz and wave-energy scatter diagrams.

소규모 댐의 효과적 운영을 위한 저수관리 기법 개발 (Development of Storage Management Method for Effective Operation of Small Dams)

  • Large dams are managed with operation standard and flood forecasting systems, while small dams do not have management method generally. Shortage of water resources and natural disasters due to drought and flood raised public concerns for management of small dams. Most of small dams are irrigation dams, which need diversified water uses. However, the lack of systematic management of small dams have caused serious water wastage and increased natural disasters. Storage management method and system were developed to solve these problems in small dams. The system was applied to Seongju dam for effective management. The storage management method was established considering hydrology simulation and statistical analysis using the system. This method can bring additional available water, even in the same conditions of the water demand and the supply conditions of watershed. It can improve the flood control capacity and water utilization efficiency by' the flexible operation of storage space.

Effect of Biofilter Operation Parameters on Dimethyl Disulfide Removal : Loading, Time, and Concentration

  • A laboratory-scale dual-column biofilter system was used to study the biofiltration of dimethyl disulfide(DMDS). The biofiltration of DMDS was found to depend on the pollutant loadings rather than the inlet concentrations. It was estimated that the pollutant was only inhibitory to the operation of the biofilters at DMDS concentrations greater than 5500 ppmv A residence time of 30 seconds(120 m$^3$/m$^2$/h volumetric loading) was determined as appropriate for efficient operation(>90%). The maximum elimination capacity for both compost mixtures under the current experimental conditions was found to range from 7.5 to 10 g-DMDS/m$^3$/h. A lower DMDS maximum elimination capacity was exhibited under acidified conditions.

  • The exhaust gas emission from marine diesel engines is one of the major environmental issues. The authors focus the use of photovoltaic energy for the electric power system on marine ships. This paper proposes an operation method of a photovoltaic/diesel hybrid generating system for a small ship in consideration of the fluctuating photovoltaic power due to solar radiation. The aim of the proposed operation method is to minimize the fuel consumption and storage capacity of the battery. The validity of the proposed control method is shown by the numerical simulation based on the experimental data of the photovoltaic system.

  • This paper presents an operation and planning model of integrated energy systems which consist of small scale cogeneration systems, thermal accumulator, ice storage and electrical energy storage systems. In the proposed planning model, an optimization of total cost which contains investment, operation, thermal shortage and salvage costs has carried out with the maximum principle based on the lifetime of each system component and unit price per capacity. From this model, optimal investment capacity per annum can be determined during the studied periods using the marginal costs according to the operation characteristics of each system component.

  • The public transportation in operation or to be planned domestically includes subway, LRT, bimodal tram and bus, which are independently characterized in their passenger capacity and cost. High quality service is generally accompanied by high cost of construction and operation. Thus, ITS, BIS/BMS and BRT system are recently introduced to provide high quality service to the passengers with the cost as low as possible. The bimodal tram is under development to achieve such goals in public transportation. The passenger capacity is approximately expected to be 10,000$\sim$17,000 persons/hour and the construction cost to be 10$\sim$30 million dollars/km. It is possible to construct the infrastructure gradually depending on the demand of transportation in the planned route, which can effectively reduce the initial cost to launch the service. The bimodal tram is developed to provide the advantages of subway and bus to the passengers with respect to the scheduled operation and flexibility of the lines.
