  • Solar energy harvesting is practiced by various nations for the purpose of energy security and environment preservation in order to reduce overdependence on oil. Converting solar energy into electrical energy through Photovoltaic (PV) module can take place either in on-grid or off-grid applications. In recent time Lithium battery is exhibiting its presence in on-grid applications but its role in off-grid application is rarely discussed in the literature. The preliminary capacity and Peukert's study indicated that the battery quality is good and can be subjected for life cycle test. The capacity of the battery was 10.82 Ah at 1 A discharge current and the slope of 1.0117 in the Peukert's study indicated the reaction is very fast and independent on rate of discharge. In this study Lithium Iron Phosphate battery (LFP) after initial characterization was subjected to life cycle test which is specific to solar off-grid application as defined in IEC standard. The battery has delivered just 6 endurance units at room temperature before its capacity reached 75% of rated value. The low life of LFP battery in off-grid application is discussed based on State of Charge (SOC) operating window. The battery was operated both in high and low SOC's in off-grid application and both are detrimental to life of lithium battery. High SOC operation resulted in cell-to-cell variation and low SOC operation resulted in lithium plating on negative electrode. It is suggested that to make it more suitable for off-grid applications the battery by default has to be overdesigned by nearly 40% of its rated capacity.

  • The towing cable plays a role in dropping and salvaging the Towed Array Sonar System (TASS) into the water and transmitting the signal (information) detected by the sonar in the water to the probe or surface ship. The towing cable consists of a heavy cable and a lightweight cable in detail. The towing cable for sonar is characterized by high reliability and durability as the underwater environment deteriorates as the operating depth increases. Due to these restrictions, cases designed and manufactured in Korea are extremely rare. The core technology for towing cable design secured through this study is expected to be used in various ways in the defense industry and the private sector.

  • In this paper, the calculation using simulation and two measurement methods for G/T of the telemetry are analyzed. Antenna gain and noise temperature are calculated by using ICARA and Antenna Noise Temperature Calculator. System G/T were calculated by using Antenna gain/noise temperature, LNA gain/noise temperature, cable loss. The first G/T measurement method is Y-factor measurement method, which is to calculate G/T by comparing LNA noise temperature and a signal level difference when an antenna and a 50ohm termination are respectively connected to an LNA input terminal Second method is Solar calibration measurement method that is to calculate G/T by comparing noise level difference when looking at the sun and lowest level point. Finally, the accuracy was reviewed by comparing the G/T calculation results with the two measurement methods, and the optimal measurement method according to antenna performance and operating environment was presented.

  • As the usages of artificial intelligence is increased, the demand to algorithms for small portable devices increases. Also as the embedded system becomes high-performance, it is possible to implement algorithms for high-speed computation and machine learning as well as operating systems. As the machine learning algorithms process repetitive calculations, it depend on the cloud environment by network connection. For an stand alone system, low power consumption and fast execution by optimized algorithm are required. In this study, for the purpose of smart control, an energy measurement sensor is connected to an embedded system, and a real-time monitoring system is implemented to store measurement information as a database. Continuously measured and stored data is applied to a learning algorithm, which can be utilized for optimal power control, and a system interfacing various sensors required for energy measurement was constructed.

  • It can be seen that the infringement of copyright cases is increasing as the society becomes more complex and advanced. During the software copyright dispute, there may be a dispute over whether the software is duplicated and made into upgraded software. In this paper, we intend to propose an analysis method for determining whether to upgrade software. For the software upgrade analysis, a software similarity analysis technique was used. The analysis program covers servers, management programs, and Raspberry PC programs. The first analysis confirms the correspondence between program creation information and content. In addition, it analyzes the similarity of functions and screen composition between the submitted program and the program installed in the field. The second comparative analysis compares and analyzes similarities by operating two programs in the same environment. As a result of comparative analysis, it was confirmed that the operation and configuration screens of the two programs were identical. Thus, minor differences were found in a few files, but it was confirmed that the two programs were mostly made using the same or almost similar source code. Therefore, this program can be judged as an upgrade program.

  • Network Function Virtualization (NFV) is a key technology of 5G networks that has the advantage of enabling building and operating networks flexibly. However, NFV can complicate network management because it creates numerous virtual resources that should be managed. In NFV environments, service function chaining (SFC) composed of virtual network functions (VNFs) is widely used to apply a series of network functions to traffic. Therefore, it is required to dynamically allocate the right amount of computing resources or instances to SFC for meeting service requirements. In this paper, we propose Deep Q-Networks (DQN)-based auto-scaling to operate the appropriate number of VNF instances in SFC. The proposed approach not only resizes the number of VNF instances in SFC composed of multi-tier architecture but also selects a tier to be scaled in response to dynamic traffic forwarding through SFC.

  • In this paper, we propose an example of designing and constructing a roof-type solar power plant structure equipped with a Pseudo-BIPV (Building-Integrated Photovoltaic) shape suitable for use as a roof of a small warehouse with a sandwich-type panel structure. As the characteristics of the roof-type solar power generation facility to be installed in the small warehouse proposed in this study, the shape of the roof is not a general A type, but a right-angled triangle shape with the slope is designed to face south. We chose a structure in which an inverter for one power plant and a control facility are linked by grouping several roofs of buildings. In addition, the height of the roof structure is less than 20 cm from the floor, and it has a shape similar to that of the BIPV, so it is building-friendly because it is almost in close contact with the roof. At the same time, the roof creates a reflective light source due to the white color. By linking this roof with a double-sided solar panel, we designed it to obtain both the advantage of the roof-friendliness and the advantage of efficiency improvement for the electric power generation based on the double-sided panel. Compared to the existing solar power generation facilities using A-shaped cross-sectional modules, the power generation efficiency of roofs in this case is increased by more than 11%, which we can confirm, through the comparison analysis of monitoring data between power plants in the same area. Therefore, if the roof-type solar structure suitable for the small warehouse we have presented in this paper is used, the facilities of electric power generation is eco-friendly. Further it is easier to obtain facility certification compared to the BIPV, and improved capacity of the power generation can be secured at low material cost. It is believed that the roof-type solar power generation facility we proposed can be usefully used for warehouse or factory-based smart housing. Sensor devices for monitoring, CCTV monitoring, or safety and environment management, operating in connection with the solar power generation facilities, are linked with the Internet of Things (IoT) solution, so they can be monitored and controlled remotely.

  • Data required in a wireless sensor network environment requires more accurate figures as technology advances and its complexity increases. However, in the case of operating a large number of sensor nodes in a large area, the balance between the power consumed and the data quality that can be acquired accordingly should be considered for that purpose. In particular, in complex, densely populated urban areas or military operations with specific goals, location data requires increasingly detailed and high accuracy over a wide range. In this paper, we propose a method of mounting a Global Positioning System(: GPS) only on some of the sensor nodes deployed in the wireless sensor network and improving the error of GPS location data measured on that sensor node through Angle of Arrival(: AoA) and Received Signal Strength Indicator(: RSSI).

  • The agricultural sector is completely different from other sectors since it completely relies on various natural and climatic factors. Climate changes have many effects, including lack of annual rainfall and pests, heat waves, changes in sea level, and global ozone/atmospheric CO2 fluctuation, on land and agriculture in similar ways. Climate change also affects the environment. Based on these factors, farmers chose their crops to increase productivity in their fields. Many existing agricultural ontologies are either domain-specific or have been created with minimal vocabulary and no proper evaluation framework has been implemented. A new agricultural ontology focused on subdomains is designed to assist farmers using Jaccard relative extractor (JRE) and Naïve Bayes algorithm. The JRE is used to find the similarity between two sentences and words in the agricultural documents and the relationship between two terms is identified via the Naïve Bayes algorithm. In the proposed method, the preprocessing of data is carried out through natural language processing techniques and the tags whose dimensions are reduced are subjected to rule-based formal concept analysis and mapping. The subdomain ontologies of weather, pest, and soil are built separately, and the overall agricultural ontology are built around them. The gold standard for the lexical layer is used to evaluate the proposed technique, and its performance is analyzed by comparing it with different state-of-the-art systems. Precision, recall, F-measure, Matthews correlation coefficient, receiver operating characteristic curve area, and precision-recall curve area are the performance metrics used to analyze the performance. The proposed methodology gives a precision score of 94.40% when compared with the decision tree(83.94%) and K-nearest neighbor algorithm(86.89%) for agricultural ontology construction.
