Objectives: The study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of performing a second, repeat anterior maxillary distraction (AMD) to treat residual cleft maxillary hypoplasia. Materials and Methods: Five patients between the ages of 12 to 15 years with a history of AMD and with residual cleft maxillary hypoplasia were included in the study. Inclusion was irrespective of gender, type of cleft lip and palate, and the amount of advancement needed. Repeat AMD was executed in these patients 4 to 5 years after the primary AMD procedure to correct the cleft maxillary hypoplasia that had developed since the initial procedure. Orthopantomogram (OPG) and lateral cephalograms were taken for evaluation preoperatively, immediately after distraction, after consolidation, and one year postoperatively. The data obtained was tabulated and a Mann Whitney U-test was used for statistical comparisons. Results: At the time of presentation, a residual maxillary hypoplasia was observed with a well maintained distraction gap on the OPG which ruled out the occurrence of a relapse. Favorable movement of the segments without any resistance was seen in all patients. Mean maxillary advancement of 10.56 mm was achieved at repeat AMD. Statistically significant increases in midfacial length, SNA angle, and nasion perpendicular to point A distance was achieved (P=0.012, P=0.011, and P=0.012, respectively). Good profile was achieved for all patients. Minimal transient complications, for example anterior open bite and bleeding episodes, were managed. Conclusion: Addressing the problem of cleft maxillary hypoplasia at an early age (12-15 years) is beneficial for the child. Residual hypoplasia may develop in some patients, which may require additional corrective procedures. The results of our study show that AMD can be repeated when residual deformity develops with the previous procedure having no negative impact on the results of the repeat procedure.

We have studied the atomic and electronic structure of graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) on a hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) sheet with intercalated atoms using first-principles calculations. The h-BN sheet is an insulator with the band gap about 6 eV and then it may a good candidate as a supporting dielectric substrate for graphene-based nanodevices. Especially, the h-BN sheet has the similar bond structure as graphene with a slightly longer lattice constant. For the computation, we use the Vienna ab initio simulation package (VASP). The generalized gradient approximation (GGA) in the form of the PBE-type parameterization is employed. The ions are described via the projector augmented wave potentials, and the cutoff energy for the plane-wave basis is set to 400 eV. To include weak van der Waals (vdW) interactions, we adopt the Grimme's DFT-D2 vdW correction based on a semi-empirical GGA-type theory. Our calculations reveal that the localized states appear at the zigzag edge of the GNR on the h-BN sheet due to the flat band of the zigzag edge at the Fermi level and the localized states rapidly decay into the bulk. The open-edged graphene with a large corrugation allows some space between graphene and h-BN sheet. Therefore, atoms or molecules can be intercalated between them. We have considered various types of atoms for intercalation. The atoms are initially placed at the edge of the GNR or inserted in between GNR and h-BN sheet to find the effect of intercalated atoms on the atomic and electronic structure of graphene. We find that the impurity atoms at the edge of GNR are more stable than in between GNR and h-BN sheet for all cases considered. The nickel atom has the lowest energy difference of ~0.2 eV, which means that it is relatively easy to intercalate the Ni atom in this structure. Finally, the magnetic properties of intercalated atoms between GNR and h-BN sheet are investigated.

Background The zygoma is a major portion of the midfacial contour. When deformity occurs in this area, a reduction should be conducted to correct it. If a sagittal fracture at the temporal root of the zygomatic arch occurs, this also requires reduction, but it is difficult to approach due to its anatomical location, and the possibility of fixation is also limited. Thus, the authors attempted the reduction of sagittal fracture by two- or three-point fixation and the Gillies approach without direct manipulation. The preoperative and postoperative results of the patients were evaluated. Follow-up was performed to establish a treatment guideline. Methods A retrospective study was done with 40 patients who had sagittal fractures at the temporal root of the zygomatic arch from March 2009 to June 2012. Only two- or three-point fixation was performed for the accompanying zygomatic-orbital-maxillary fracture. The Gillies approach was used for complex fractures of the zygomatic arch, while the temporal root of the zygomatic arch was only observed without reduction. Preoperative and postoperative computed tomography and X-ray scans were performed to examine the results. Results The result of the paired t-test on preoperative and postoperative bone gap differences, the depression level, and the degree of temporal protrusion showed a marked decrease in the mean difference at a 95% confidence interval. The results were acceptable. Conclusions In the treatment of sagittal fractures at the temporal root of the zygomatic arch, it is acceptable to use indirect reduction and non-fixation methods. This leads to a satisfactory aesthetic and functional outcome.
As physical condition of students improves, there is a need to develop human body-friendly desk and chair for students. In this study, desks and chairs were manufactured with curved veneer lamination under high frequency heating and pressing, using ten wood species such as Japanese red pine, Korean pine, pitch pine, Japanese larch, yellow poplar, black locust, oak, radiata pine, beech, and birch. The performance of these products were evaluated. The results obtained were summarized as follows; With high frequency heating, the turned lamination of veneers with full size sheet ($3{\times}6\;feet$) prepared by rotary lathe peeling was successfully applied for making the members of desk top, leg frames of desk and chair. Bending strengths of desk tops were relatively greater for yellow poplar, black locust and red pine, which were similar to those of beech and birch. Bending strengths of desk legs were classified into greater species group (red pine, yellow poplar, larch) and lower species group (radiata pine, Korean pine, pitch pine). Compressive strengths of chair legs in parallel direction to the lamination were greater in black locust and larch. On the other hand, differences between outer and inner gap at the top and drawer bottom of desk top were rather larger for the laminations of birch and beech, and less for those of yellow poplar and pitch pine, showing greater stability of open drawer space. In results, yellow poplar, larch, pitch pine and red pine showed good appearance and strength properties at the curved veneer lamination. Accordingly, it was believed that these domestic woods were able to substitute for birch which was being imported for the use of veneer-laminates type furniture.

This case study searched two secondary school science teachers' faiths on experiments in science classes. For this study, scaled questionnaires, open-ended questionnaires, structured and semi-structured interviews were conducted. Classroom activities were observed, and instructional plans and materials were collected. In addition, students of the two teachers' classes were interviewed with respect to their thoughts on the lessons. Data sources were analyzed inductively. The triangulation and the member checking guaranteed the validity of this study. As the results, the teachers' faiths on experiments were related to the constructivism, but the faiths were not in accord with their classroom practices. From these results, it was concluded that the teachers' misjudgments about the students' inquiry levels and unfit reorganizations of the experimental activities were the causes of the gap between the teachers' faiths on experiments and classroom practices.
In this article, we have designed and synthesized a novel donor-${\pi}$-acceptor (D-${\pi}$-A) type porphyrin-based sensitizer (denoted UI-5), in which a carboxyl anchoring group and a 9,9-dimethyl fluorene were introduced at the meso-positions of porphyrin ring via phenylethynyl and ethynyl bridging units, respectively. Long alkoxy chains in ortho-positions of the phenyls were supposed to reduce the degree of dye aggregation, which tends to affect electron injection yield in a photovoltaic cell. The cyclic voltammetry was employed to determine the band gap of UI-5 to be 1.41 eV based on the HOMO and LUMO energy levels, which were estimated by the onset oxidation and reduction potentials. The incident monochromatic photon-to-current conversion efficiency of the UI-5 DSSC assembled with double-layer (20 nm-sized $TiO_2$/400 nm-sized $TiO_2$) film electrodes appeared lower upon overall ranges of the excitation wavelengths, but exhibited a higher value over the NIR ranges (${\lambda}$ = 650-700 nm) compared to the common reference sensitizer N719. The UI-5-sensitized cell yielded a relatively poor device performance with an overall conversion efficiency of 0.74% with a short circuit photocurrent density of $3.05mA/cm^2$, an open circuit voltage of 0.54 mV and a fill factor of 0.44 under the standard global air mass (AM 1.5) solar conditions. However, our report about the synthesis and the photovoltaic characteristics of a porphyrin-based sensitizer in a D-${\pi}$-A structure demonstrated a significant complex relationship between the sensitizer structure and the cell performance.

Construction of tunnels in a deep crystalline host rock for a potential High-Level Radioactive Waste(HLW) repository inevitably generates an excavation disturbed zone (EDZ). There have been a series of debates on whether a permeability in an EDZ increases or not and what would be the maximum depth of an EDZ. Recent studies show mixed opinions on permeability. However, there has been an international consensus on the thickness of an EDZ; 30 cm for TBM and 1 meter for controlled blast. One of the impacts of an EDZ is on determining the distance between adjacent deposition holes. The void gap by the excavation hinders relaxation of temperature profiles so that the current Korean reference designing distance between holes should be stretched out more to keep the maximum temperature in a buffer region below 100 degrees Celsius. The other impact of an EDZ is on the long-term post closure radiological safety. To estimate the impact, the reference scenario, the well scenario, is chosen. Released nuclides diffuse through a bentonite buffer region experiencing strong sorption and reach a fracture surrounded by a porous medium. Inside a fractured porous region, radionuclides migrate by advection and dispersion with matrix diffusion into a porous medium. Finally, they reach a well assumed to be a source of potable water for local residents. The annual individual dose is assessed on this well scenario to find out the significance of an EDZ. A profound sensitivity study was performed, but all results show that the impact is negligible. Even though the role of an EDZ turns out to be limited on overall safety assessment, still it is worthwhile to study the chemical role of an EDZ, such as a potential source for natural colloids, potential sealing of an open fracture by fine clay particles generated by the process of an EDZ, and alteration of a sorption mechanism by an EDZ in the future.

This paper summarizes the data of a monopole antenna with a sleeve structure that can be applied in various ways. Sleeve monopole antennas have broadband characteristics and are used for multi-frequency applications. The sleeve monopole antenna is composed of a vertical conductor, which is a radiator, and a sleeve having the same structure as a coaxial cable. The sleeve acts as a radiator and an open stub. The length of the sleeve should be 1/3~2/3 of the total length of the antenna. A monopole antenna having a sleeve structure is applicable to a vehicle wiper antenna. In addition, the case of applying this antenna to a broadband sleeve antenna using a loading coil, a broadband printed sleeve monopole antenna for an ISM band, a gap sleeve and a double sleeve, and a UWB planar monopole antenna using half cutting was summarized and analyzed in terms of structure and broadband.
Global electronic commerce, driven by the development of the Internet and computer, premises to be an important engine for growth for the world economy in the 21st century. Electronic commerce offers considerable new opportunities for businesses and citizens in all regions of the world by enhancing productivity across all sectors 6f our economies and encouraging trade in both goods and services. Specially in relation to contract, electronic commerce requires a coherent, coordinated approach internationally on key issues such as a validity, a legality, consumer protection. In order to ensure the stable growth of electronic commerce in Korea, the government needs to construct a predictable legal and commercial environment, suitable to the situation in Korea, for business conduct on the Internet and other electronic method. Electronic commerce, which breaks down national boundaries and widens the gap between the place where services are performed and the place where they are consumed, requires a new paradigm when making an agreement between contracting parties.

Maglev is a system that a train runs levitated above a rail. Therefore it is very important to maintain a constant levitation gap for achieving serviceability and ride comfort. This study is a cooperation research subject of the 3-1 subject, performance improvement of maglev track structures, of the Center for Urban Maglev Program in Korea, started in 2006. The aim of this study is development of rapid constructions of bridge superstructure for maglev. At present, precast deck is widely used because of its superiority to cast-in-place concrete on quality and the term of works. The research group suggested basic systems of maglev guideway with PSC-U type and trapezoidal open steel box type girder, and precast deck, cooperating with Korea Railroad Research Institute, the managing institute of the 3-1 subject. In this study, full-scale structure was fabricated for structural safety evaluation of precast decks and rail, and a static performance test of those structures was performed.
