Identification of Open-Switch and Short-Switch Failure of Multilevel Inverters through DWT and ANN Approach using LabVIEW

  • In recent times, multilevel inverters are given high priority in many large industrial drive applications. However, the reliability of multilevel inverters are mainly affected by the failure of power electronic switches. In this paper, open-switch and short-switch failure of multilevel inverters and its identification using a high performance diagnostic system is discussed. Experimental and simulation studies were carried out on five level cascaded H-Bridge multilevel inverter and its output voltage waveforms were analyzed at different switch fault cases and at different modulation index values. Salient frequency domain features of the output voltage signal were extracted using the discrete wavelet transform multi resolution signal decomposition technique. Real time application of the proposed fault diagnostic system was implemented through the LabVIEW software. Artificial neural network was trained offline using the Matlab software and the resultant network parameters were transferred to LabVIEW real time system. In the proposed system, it is possible to precisely identify the individual faulty switch (may be due to open-switch (or) short-switch failure) of multilevel inverters.

Clustering-Based Mobile Gateway Management in Integrated CRAHN-Cloud Network

  • The limited storage and computing capacity hinder the development of cognitive radio ad hoc networks (CRAHNs). To solve the problem, a new paradigm of cloud-based CRAHN has been proposed, in which a CRAHN will make use of the computation and storage resources of the cloud. This paper envisions an integrated CRAHN-cloud network architecture. In this architecture, some cognitive radio users (CUs) who satisfy the required metrics could perform as mobile gateway candidates to connect other ordinary CUs with the cloud. These mobile gateway candidates are dynamically clustered according to different related metrics. Cluster head and time-to-live value are determined in each cluster. In this paper, the gateway advertisement and discovery issues are first addressed to propose a hybrid gateway discovery mechanism. After that, a QoS-based gateway selection algorithm is proposed for each CU to select the optimal gateway. Simulations are carried out to evaluate the performance of the overall scheme, which incorporates the proposed clustering and gateway selection algorithms. The results show that the proposed scheme can achieve about 11% higher average throughput, 10% lower end-to-end delay, and 8% lower packet drop fractions compared with the existing scheme.

Design and Implementation of interlocking between Physical Computing and Social Network Service for disabled people (의사표현에 제약이 있는 장애인을 위한 피지컬 컴퓨팅을 활용한 SNS 연동 시스템 구축에 대한 연구)

  • In recent years, social awareness and concern about the SNS is getting a lot and many researches on the social impact of the SNS and variety strategies using SNS have emerged one after another. In this paper, we explain the method of interlocking between SNS and variety sensors in physical computing environment. Especially we propose that interlocking technology between sensors and twitter in Arduino platform(open source environment) can be used for the handicapped people. We design a way to send message via twitter for handicapped people using values from various sensors.

  • The security key management function is a key element to secure network environment, and many protocols include IPSec, HIP, etc. demand this function. There are two solutions to provide the key management function in the network layer, one is a method for storing security key material in the directory, and the other is a method for storing security key material in DNS. In this paper we present an implementation of key management system by LDAP. We deployed the open source solutions for directory service(OpenLDAP), cryptographic algorithm (FLINT/C), IPSec(FreeS/WAN), and verified the key management system by the encrypted message exchange and the interoperability test by un daemon.

Flow Characteristics of a Primary Cooling System in 5 MW Research Reactor (5MW 연구용 원자로의 1차 냉각 계통 유동 특성)

  • 5MW, open pool type research reactor, is commonly used to education and experimental purpose. It is necessary to prepare a standardization of system designs for considering a demand. HANARO has prepared the standardization of 5MW research reactor system designs based on the design, installation, commissioning and operating experiences of HANARO. For maintaining an open pool type reactor safety, a primary cooling system (after below, PCS) should remove the heat generated by the reactor under a reactor normal operation condition and a reactor shutdown condition. For removing the heat generated by the reactor, the PCS should maintain a required coolant flow rate. For a verification of the required flow rate, a flow network analysis of the PCS was carried under a normal operating condition. Based on the flow network analysis result, this paper describes the PCS flow characteristics of a 5MW open pool type research reactor. Through the result, it was confirmed that the PCS met design requirements including design flow rate without cavitation.

Comprehensive Knowledge Archive Network harvester improvement for efficient open-data collection and management

  • With the recent increase in data disclosure, the Comprehensive Knowledge Archive Network (CKAN), which is an open-source data distribution platform, is drawing much attention. CKAN is used together with additional extensions, such as Datastore and Datapusher for data management and Harvest and DCAT for data collection. This study derives the problems of CKAN itself and Harvest Extension. First, CKAN causes two problems of data inconsistency and storage space waste for data deletion. Second, Harvest Extension causes three additional problems, namely source deletion that deletes only sources without deleting data themselves, job stop that cannot delete job during data collection, and service interruption that cannot provide service, even if data exist. Based on these observations, we propose herein an improved CKAN that provides a new deletion function solving data inconsistency and storage space waste problems. In addition, we present an improved Harvest Extension solving three problems of the legacy Harvest Extension. We verify the correctness and the usefulness of the improved CKAN and Harvest Extension functions through actual implementation and extensive experiments.

  • 최근 현재 인터넷이 가지는 한계를 극복하기 위해 전세계적으로 연구가 되고 있는 미래인터넷 테스트베드 분야에서 QoS(Quality of Service)에 대한 요구가 계속 증가되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 시뮬레이션을 통한 검증과 실용성은 한계와 확장성의 문제가 있기 때문에, 기존 네트워크의 정상적인 서비스를 간섭하지 않고 새로운 네트워킹 기술을 실험할 수 있고, 가장 각광 받고 있는 OpenFlow를 이용하여 실제 상용 스위치인 Pronto 3290을 기반으로 한 테스트 베드를 구성하였다. 구성한 테스트 베드를 통하여 패킷 정보에 따라 Path를 사용자 요구에 맞게 변경, 삭제, 생성 할 수 있는 QoS 메커니즘을 설계하고 사용자가 사용하기 편하도록 웹 기반의 인터페이스를 구현을 통하여 검증할 것이다.

Role of Project Owner in OSS Project: Based on Impression Formation and Social Capital Theory (오픈소스 소프트웨어 운영자 역할이 성과에 미치는 영향: 인상형성과 사회적 자본 이론을 중심으로)

  • With the increasing socio-economic value of an open collaboration over the Internet, it has become significantly important to successfully manage open source software development program. Most of the previous research have focused on various factors that influence the performance of the project, but studies on how the project owners recognized as "leader" affect the outcome of the project are very limited. This research investigates how individual and governance characteristics of an owner influences the performance of project based on impression formation and social capital theory. For a data set, we collect 611 Repositories and the owner's data from the open source development platform Github, and we form knowledge sharing network of an each repository by using social network analysis. We use hierarchical regression analysis, and our results show that a leader, who exposes a lot of one's personal information or who has actively followed and showed interests to communicate with other developers, affects positive impacts on project performance. A leader who has a high centrality in knowledge sharing network also positively affects on project performance. On the other hand, if a leader was highly willing to accept external knowledge or is recognized as an expert in the community with large numbers of followers, the result show negative impacts on project performance. The research may serve as a useful guideline not only for the future open source software projects but also for the effective management of different types of open collaboration.

  • Recently, world-wide research activities on new network architectures and protocols are being actively progressed. Furthermore, research activities on testbed and related technologies for supporting those activities are being actively performed. In domestic study, research on the OpenFlow protocol based future Internet testbed implementation and research on its virtualization for supporting independent research experiments are being performed at the same time. The network virtualization is a technology which maximizes the testbed utilization without interfering each other for the individual research when many researchers share the testbed. In this paper, we implemented a Enhanced FlowVisor by extending basic FlowVisor by adding QoS functions which are admission control and minimum bandwidth guarantee. On the testbed, we performed a real-time video streaming experiment for verifying the performance of the Enhnaced FlowVisor on the OpenFlow protocol based future internet testbed. The result shows that the Enhanced FlowVisor can provide reliable and stable QoS to the individual researches without disturbing each other traffic on virtualized networks of the future Internet testbed.

Open IPTV Services over NGN (NGN에서의 개방형 IPTV 서비스)

  • Internet protocol television (IPTV), one of the most emerging services, offers multimedia streaming services with security, reliability, and relevant quality of service (QoS)/quality of experience (QoE). It provides added values to all the involving players and also brings technical and business challenges to them. For IPTV services, we expect to adopt the next generation network (NGN) environment for high quality and the Web technologies for personalization to meet the customer's necessity. Web can provide an open, flexible, and agile platform. Therefore, in this paper, we propose personalized IPTV services based on Web-based open platform in NGN environment and present functional architecture for Web-based personalized IPTV services. Technical issues for deploying the proposed IPTV services using Web are also provided. The objective of this paper is to analyze the critical architectural issues for developing viable and feasible networking platform models for personalized IPTV services.
