The open approach to teaching school mathematics in the United States is an outcome of the collaboration of Japanese and U.S. researchers. We examine the approach by illustrating its three aspects: open process (there is more than one way to arrive at the solution to a problem; 2) open-ended problems (a problem can have several of many correct answers), and 3) what the Japanese call 'from problem to problem' or problem formulation (students draw on their own thinking to formulate new problems). Using our understanding of the Japanese open approach to teaching mathematics, we adapt selected methods to teach mathematics more effectively in the United States. Much of this approach is new to U.S. mathematics teachers, in that it has teachers working together in groups on lesson plans, and through a series of discussions and revisions, results in a greatly improved, effective plan. It also has teachers actively observing individual students or groups of students as they work on a problem, and then later comparing and discussing the students' work.

In this article, we associate a contact structure to the conjugacy class of a periodic surface homeomorphism, encoded by a combinatorial tuple of integers called a marked data set. In particular, we prove that infinite families of these data sets give rise to Stein fillable contact structures with associated monodromies that do not factor into products to positive Dehn twists. In addition to the above, we give explicit constructions of symplectic fillings for rational open books analogous to Mori's construction for honest open books. We also prove a sufficient condition for the Stein fillability of rational open books analogous to the positivity of monodromy for honest open books due to Giroux and Loi-Piergallini.
The revised curriculum in 2007 adds an open inquiry approach to increase students' creativity and interest in science. Because it is the first time for elementary students to perform the open inquiry due to the national curriculum, it is essential that teachers give students' successful experiences in order to build a positive impression about inquiry activity. The purpose of this research is to develop and apply the open inquiry program. The research findings are as follows: First, we analyzed the students' traits of open inquiry ability during the program. The third and fourth grade students showed weakness in operating and inquiring abilities. They also feared failure and were unable to concentrate in classes which were based on explanation or discussion. When students had unexpected results, however, their inquiring abilities and creativeness increased considerably. Additionally there were some students who were stressed during the science-inquiry activity, due to no interest in science and an inability to think scientifically. Second, we developed an open inquiry program for elementary students. The program was modified, reflected upon the students' traits during open inquiry in class. Through repeated feedback like this, we completed the program. Third, for those who studied in the lessons there was a meaningful change in students' science inquiry abilities and abilities to perform 'formulating a hypothesis' and 'the control of variables'. These students' level of self-inquiry performance improved steadily. Moreover, they obtained a strong attachment to their inquiry and understood the method of quantitative experiments.

In the case of open phase faults caused by the disconnection of distribution feeders interconnected to a PV system, many problems can occur depending on the core type and wiring method of the grid-connected transformers. Moreover, open phase faults are difficult to detect because the open phase voltage of the existing protection relay (Open Phase Relay (47)) can be maintained, even though a disconnection fault occurred, depending on the wiring method and the iron core type of the grid-connected transformer for a PV system. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel algorithm to detect open phase faults by comparing the currents and phases between the primary and secondary sides of a grid-connected transformer. In addition, this paper presents the modeling of a distribution system and protection devices for detecting open phase faults using PSCAD/EMTDC S/W, and implements a test protection device for detecting open phase faults based on the above-mentioned modeling. The simulation and test results confirmed that the proposed algorithm is useful for detecting open phase faults according to the wiring method and iron core type of grid-connected transformer for a PV system because operation slope and unbalance rate of the primary current exceed the setting value (30[%]) of the protection device.
In Seowon architecture, there are four kinds of space conditions according to the site plan and the figure of education area. The education area has three main buildings such as Kangdang, Dongjae, Seojae. In case Kangdan locates in front of Dongjae and Seojae(so called Junkangdang-Hoojaesa), but in another case Dongjae and Seojae locates in front of Kangdang(so called Junjaesa-Hookangdang). This four space conditions affect to decide the floor plan and the window & door system of Kangdang. In Junjaesa-Hookangdang type, the front and rear wall has more open system than in Junkangdang-Hoojaesa type. In Junjaesa-Hookangdang type the direction of Kangdang is absolutely open to front education area, but in Junkangdang-Hoojaesa type the direction of Kangdang is absolutely open to rear education area. These floor plan aims at making up education area more closely. In window & door system the rear parts of Junjaesa-Hookangdang type have generally opaque system such as Golpanmoon or Panjangmoon, but Junkangdang-Hoojaesa type breaks this rule in order to emphasize front facade of building.

In a pre-existing online newspaper has inconvenience such that a difference of a newspaper from other newspapers is confirmed on another script window. To solve this inconvenience, we propose a system called Rose News Reader. Since our proposed system classifies the articles with respect to the publishers and domain, a user can compare the articles from diverse publisher and analyze them to obtain correct facts.

A lot of educators claim that the open education should be performed in elementary classroom, but it is true that they do not suggest the specific direction of practicing open education in case of mathematics subject. Although a project lesson is recommended, there is little case that suggests the direction of practice and the evaluation method of project lesson. Therefore this study searchs for the possibility of practicing open education in elementary mathematics classroom by reviewing the portfolio assessment and suggesting the specific case of applying the portfolio assessment to project lesson. A portfolio is a folder in which is recording solution process, student's self reflection, and teacher's comment, about topics and problems more than one. Students can see their own varying aspects and recognize their own merits and demerits, sincerities, and potentialities by portfolio assessment. Futheremore, teacher can both grasp the student's cognitive situation and give them the professional advice about the cognitive development. That is, they can perform the instruction underlining the learner's ability and personality, by identifying what Vygotsky calls 'the proximal zone of development' through portfolio assessment. Consequently, portfolio assessment is an alternative evaluation method for integrating process and product of learning, and can be used as an important tool for developing the learner's potential possibility of self-realization.

STEAM and S / W education in public education are effective in fostering talented people and the talents of the 4th industrial revolution era. It is necessary to expand the teachers for this purpose, to find out and apply various learning materials, and to improve education environment for fusion talent education. An open learning platform is effective in reducing private education costs and supplementing public education. Especially, it is useful for flip learning combined with classroom (off-line). In this case, teacher's role can be transformed into active teaching activities and research activities, which can speed up normalization of public education and reduce private education. In particular, the core functions of the MOOC platform for elementary education are 'creative instructional design and contents development function', 'digital teaching and learning curation', 'big data based learner customization', 'learning participation' flip learning and social Learning function.Through this study, it is expected that discussion on the introduction of MOOC for career and admission education for adolescents including elementary education will be established and the Korean youth MOOC platform will be developed and developed as a global advanced model of education democratization.

Since 1990s in Korea, elementary school classrooms have been designed toward open education system in pursuit of variety of educational purpose. Also, the architectural designs of schools have been acomplished for individual school not based on the standard design code. The present paper aims to investigate the acoustic environment of existing classrooms and to compare the sound insulation capacity between the ordinary classrooms and the newly built classrooms for open education. The current acoustical situation of elementary classrooms was analyzed using field measurements and questionnaire survey. In order to this, Three elementary schools were selected which were built in 1978, 1996 and 2000 respectively. Room acoustical parameters including Reverberation time(RT), Definition(D50), Speech Intelligibility(RASTI), Transmission loss(TL) and STC were measured in a classroom in each elementary school classroom. Each measurement was undertaken with the windows and doors being open or closed. As the result, it was found that the transmission loss between rooms in open classrooms is, $5{\sim}6dB$ in average, inferior than the ordinary classrooms. The RASTI of 0.70 was measured in newly built classrooms which is better than old classrooms(0.70) and open classrooms(0.73). This was shown as same in the speech definition measurements. This results from the condition of sealing and airtightness of classrooms and floor materials. The results denote that open classrooms have poor acoustic condition in sound insulation and speech intelligibility.

The authors provide characteristics of the open educational platforms, classification and quantitative analysis regarding the availability of IT courses, teaching language, thematic directions on the following platforms: Coursera, EdX, Udemy, MIT Open Course Ware, OpenLearn, Intuit, Prometheus, UoPeople, Open Learning Initiative, Open University of Maidan (OUM). The quantitative analysis results are structured and visualized by tables and diagrams. The authors propose to use open educational resources (teaching, learning or research materials that are in the public domain or released with an intellectual property license that allows free use, adaptation, and distribution) for organization of independent work; for organization of distance or correspondence training; for professional development of teachers; for possibility and expediency of author's methods dissemination in the development of their own courses and promoting them on open platforms. Post-project activities are considered in comparing the courses content of one thematic direction, as well as studying the experience of their attending on different platforms.
