  • This study is a study on the application of a horizontal excavation machine system to improve constructability. In this study, the structural stability of non-covered temporary facilities was evaluated by comparing field measurements and numerical analysis. In addition, the appropriateness of the measurement results was analyzed by comparing and analyzing the results of numerical analysis with the analysis results applying the Gaussian probability density function to the measurement results. In this study, structural safety and long-term durability of the linkage were analyzed based on numerical analysis. As a result of the study, it was analyzed that the non-open cut method (H.A.S. method) of this study secures structural safety and constructability as the behavior in the actual construction process is more safe than the numerical analysis results, even if the uncertainty of the ground condition is taken into account.

  • Recently, the number of shallow tunnel construction increases to improve the structural safety and environment-friendliness. In Semi-Cut and Cover Method, ground is excavated to the crown arch level and braced rib arch is set to backfill before the excavation of lower face. Semi-Cut and Cover Method is proposed to solve the problems occurred by the conventional Cut and Cover Method, such as unstability, high-cost and the large cutting slope to be reinforced. In this paper, the behaviors of Braced Rib Arch in shallow tunnel excavated by semi-cut and cover method was studied. Model tests in 1:10 Scale were performed in real construction sequences. The distance between supports of rib arch was 1.8 m and the length of spacer was 1.0 m. the size of test pit was 4.0 m (width)$\times$3.3 m (length) 4.0 m (height) in dimension. Tests results show that backfill load acting on arch was smaller than that in the conventional Open-Cut Method.

  • Open-cell silicon foam is difficult to cut using conventional machining processes because of its low stiffness. That is, open-cell silicon foam is easily pressed down when the tool is engaged, which makes it difficult to remove the material in the form of chip. This study proposes an advanced method of machining open-cell silicon foam by freezing the material using liquid nitrogen. Furthermore, the machining conditions are optimized to maximize the efficiency of material removal and minimize the usage of liquid nitrogen by conducting experiments under various machining conditions. The results show that open-cell silicone foam products with free surface can be successfully machined by employing the proposed method.

  • Concerning to Taeku city subway construction project(1-4 site), the original design was adapted NATM Tunnel method to the 8 meter thickness of overburden. Surveyor checked sity and design material and finally decided to change into Open Cut method because overburden is not only below 1 1/2 times thickness of comparate Tunnel width but there is no traffic conjunction in job site.

  • Some of the underground structures such as subway tunnels are constructed by open cut method, in which the ground is excavated, a structure installed, and after that the excavated space is backfilled. In this case, because of their narrow and constrained boundary conditions, the earth pressure induced by self-weight of the backfilled soil acting on the underground structures is different from that of the classical theory. The vertical and horizontal earth pressures acting on upper slab and side wall of the underground structures constructed by open cut method are affected by the backfill geometry. The laboratory model tests were performed in the conditions of a variety of the shapes of backfill geometry and wall friction. And their results were compared with those from theories. As a result, it was observed that the distribution of the earth pressure acting on the underground structure is affected by the shapes of backfill geometry, the width of backfill, the angle of excavation and the wall friction.

  • For the development of areas around railway lines, subsurface construction using the non-open cut method under the railway has recently been increased. However, when a structure under a railway is constructed, the stress release of the ground is not considered an important factor in the design. In this study, laboratory tests were conducted to determine a zone of stress relaxation. Field tests using an inclinometer were performed to measure the horizontal displacement of the ground during non-open cut construction. The stress release zone and the subgrade stiffness were investigated by numerical analysis. The results of the laboratory tests indicated that the failure zone in the ground was similar to a Rankine's active earth pressure zone. The measured data from the inclinometer in the field tests showed that displacements started when a steel pipe was pushed into the ground. The results of numerical analysis show that lateral earth pressure was also close to Rankine's active earth pressure. The roadbed support stiffness of the soil around the structure decreased to 40% of the original value. The ground around the subsurface structure constructed using nonopen cut methods should be reinforced to maintain the running stability of train.

  • Existing cut-and-cover tunnels are designed regardless of cut-slope under the assumption that the overburden weight of backfill soil acts on tunnel arch and the earth pressure at rest acts on tunnel walls. However, actual earth pressures acting on the tunnel lining depend on open-cut size composed of cut-slope and cut-width, and thus the tunnel lining shows a different structural behavior. This study investigated the effect of cut-slope on structural behavior of the cut-and-cover tunnel lining as follows; Firstly, a comprehensive numerical analysis method using FLAC2D code was used and verified by field measurements of tunnel profile. Secondly, based on the verified numerical analysis technique, earth pressure acting on the lining, and displacement and sectional force developed on the lining were estimated with various shapes of cut-slopes$30^{\circ}\;, 456{\circ},\; 60^{\circ},\; and\;75^{\circ}%). Numerical analysis results indicate that the steeper cut-slope shows the more displacement and moment of the tunnel lining.

  • Construction methods for underground structure are classified as bottom-up, up-up, and top-down methods depending on the procedure of construction related to a superstructure. In top-down construction methods, building's main structure is built from the ground level downwards by sequentially alternating ground excavation and structure construction. In the mean time, the main structure is also used as supporting structure for earth-retaining wall, which results in the increased stability of the earth-retaining wall due to the minimized deformation in adjacent structures and surrounding grounds. In addition, the method makes it easy to secure a field for construction work in the downtown area by using each floor slabs as working spaces. However top-down construction method is often avoided since an excavation under the slab has low efficiency and difficult environment for work, and high cost compared with earth anchor method. This paper proposes a combined construction method where semi-open cut is selected as excavation work, slurry as earth -retaining wall and CWS as top-down construction method. In the case study targeted for an actual construction project, the proposed method is compared with existing top-down construction method in terms of economic feasibility, construction period and work efficiency. The proposed construction method results in increased work efficiency in the transportation of earth and sand, and steel frame erection, better quality management in PHD construction, and reduced construction period.

  • This paper presents a computer method for the dynamic analysis of a system of rigid bodies in plane motion. The formulation rests upon the idea of replacing a rigid body by a dynamically equivalent constrained system of particles. Newton's second law is applied to study the motion of the resulting system of particles without introducing any rotational coordinates. A velocity transformation is used to transform the equations of motion to a reduced set. For an open-chain, this process automatically eliminates all of the non-working constraint forces and leads to an efficient integration of the equations of motion. For a closed-chain, suitable joints should be cut and few cut-joints constraint equations should be included. An example of a closed-chain is used to demonstrate the generality and efficiency of the proposed method.

  • The equipment of a landfill need whole cut off facilities so that leachate generated from the landfill primarily do not leak to the ocean. Also, the whole collected leachate need a consecutive clarification treatment to discharge. A method is considered the best among the three alternatives. The merits of this method are as follows; have no secondary pollution. can cut down the expense of treatment, have good effects on preventing external leakage, don't need a leachate well, reliable quality control and easy post management. The weaknesses of this method are as follows; need a thorough survey about underground water and quality of the soil, need a special process to use as the land.
