A numerical study have been performed on a cavity with one heat source by the open ratio and tilt angle. The goal of this study is to get the information for designing a solar collector absorber. semi-conductor equipment and block heater and so on. The parameters for this study is the various open ratio. and tilt angle of the cavity and Rayleigh numbers The finite volume method with SIMPLE computational algorithm are used and calculated the heat transfer in the cavity. As a result, the heat trans(or was promoted by increase of Rayliegh numbers and open ratios But, the heat transfer was not promted at lower wall of cavity because the flow pattern are very small at lower space in the cavity(Or=0.1) As the Rayleigh number is increased the mean nusselt numbers are increased at inside wall.

Cavity tone is generated due to the feedback between flow and acoustic wave. It is recognized that the period is determined by the time required for the flow convection in one direction, the time required for the acoustic propagation in the other direction and the time for phase shift depending on the flows and mode. Most of the phenomena have been investigated by experiments and a simple but fundamental theory. But the cause of the phase shift and the correctness of the theory have not been clearly explained so far. In this paper, the phenomena are calculated numerically to obtain detail information of flow and acoustic wave to explain the mechanism including the phase. High order high resolution scheme of optimized high order compact is used to resolve the small acoustic quantities and large flow quantities at the same time. The data are reduced using cross correlation function in space and time and cross spectral density function which has phase information. Abrupt change in pressure near corner in cavity is observed and is relate to phase variation. The time required for the feedback between the flow and acoustic wave is calculated after the numerical simulation f3r various modes. The periods based on the time calculated using the above method and direct observation from the acoustic waves generated and propagated in the numerical simulation are compared. It is found that no phase shift is required if we examine the time required carefully. Rossiter's formula for the cavity tone used for quick estimation needs to be modified far some modes.

A numerical simulation of an incompressible cavity flow is conducted. Two dimensional Navier-Stokes equations are integrated using staggered grid and a finite volume method with C-QUICK scheme for spatial derivatives and fully implicit scheme for the time derivatives. SIMPLE-C algorithm is employed to solve the pressure field. Computational results show that the third eddy is generated in the shear layer mode but not in the steady mode. This signifies that the third eddy plays an important role in cavity flow stability. As a means to control the flow, jet blowing is applied to a position below the cavity upstream edge. Effects of flow control parameters on the stability such as the frequency, the phase, and the velocity magnitude are reported.

The cavity inside the combustor increases the mixing efficiency of fuel and air by inducing a oscillation of the flow and the recirculation area with a low speed, and enables continuous combustion by maintaining the flame. In this study, the characteristics of the internal flow by change in the shape parameters of the cavity were analyzed through experiments and two-dimensional computational analysis. It was observed that the flow in the supersonic combustor was greatly influenced by various shape parameters of cavity besides L/D. Even with the same L/D, it was confirmed that the flow type varies depending on the depth of the cavity, either open or closed type, and the aft ramp angle of the cavity and the height of the combustor also affect the flow characteristics. As a result, the change in the shape parameters of the cavity had a great influence on the total pressure loss.

Numerical simulations have been carried out for a supersonic two-dimensional flow over open, rectangular cavities (length-to-depth ratios are L/D = 1.0) in order to investigate the effect of non-equilibrium condensation of moist air on supersonic flows around the cavity for the flow Mach number 1.83 at the cavity entrance. In the present computational investigation, a condensing flow was produced by an expansion of moist air in a Laval nozzle. The results obtained showed that in the case with non-equilibrium condensation for L/D = 1.0, amplitudes of oscillation in the cavity became smaller than those without the non-equilibrium condensation. Furthermore, the occurrence of the non-equilibrium condensation reduced the peaks of power spectrum density and the frequency of the flow field oscillation increased in comparison with the case of $S_0$ = 0.

Large size forged parts usually were made by hot open die forging because of the die cost, high applied load and small manufacturing quantities. Cast ingots were used in open die forging and the ingots almost included the cavities in its inside. Therefore, one of the aims for forging processes is to close and remove the cavities. However, its criteria were well not defined since the studies have many difficulties to investigate the cavity behaviors because of its large size. In this study, the cavity closure behavior was investigated by experimental and FE analysis. The FEM analysis is performed to investigate the overlap defect of cast ingots during free forging stage. The measured flow stress data were used to simulate the forging process of cast ingot using the practical material properties. Also the analysis of cavity closure is performed by using the $DEFORM^{TM}$-3D. The calculated results of cavity closure behavior are compared with the measured results before and after forging, which are scanned by the X-ray scanner. From this result, the criteria for deformation amounts effect on the cavity closure can be investigated by the comparison between practical experiment and numerical analysis.
Two-dimensional natural convection in an inclined open cavity with bottom heated, two side insulated and the top open was investigated using PIV(Particle-Image-Velocimetry) measurement. Experimental results are presented for Prandtl number, Pr=6.62, cavity aspect ratio, A=1.0, Rayleigh number from $1.294{\times}10^6\;to\;3.8841{\times}10 ^6$, and inclination angles, ${\alpha}=0$, 30 and 60 deg to the horizontal. It was found that the fluid rises along both side walls in the boundary layer region at ${\alpha}=0\;deg$, and the inclination of the cavity induced flow entrainment. The experimental results are in good agreement with the numerical results.
The complex, unsteady, self-sustained pressure oscillations induced by supersonic flow past a rectangular cavity is investigated using numerical simulations. The present numerical study is performed using a parallel, multiblock solver for the two-dimensional, compressible NavierStokes equations. Open cavities with length-to-depth (L / D) ratio in the range 0.5 - 3.3 are considered. This paper sheds light on the cavity physics, cavity oscillatory mechanism, and the organisation of vortical structures inside the cavity. The vortex shedding phenomenon, the shear layer impingement event at the aft wall and the movement of the acoustic/compression wave within the cavity are well predicted. The vortical structures· and the source of the acoustic disturbances are found to be located near the aft wall of the cavity. With the increase in the cavity length, strong recompression of the flow near the aft wall leading to a sudden jump in the cavity form drag is observed. The estimated cavity tones are in good agreement with the available semiempirical relation. Multiple peaks are noticed in deep and long cavities. For the present freestream Mach number 1.71, it is observed that around L/D=2.0, the cavity oscillatory mechanism changes from the transverse to longitudinal oscillatory mode. The effects of this transition on various fluid dynamics and acoustic properties are also discussed.
Recently, there is a need to produce a large forged part for the flight, shipping, some energies, and military industries, etc. Therefore, an open die forging technique of cast ingots is required to obtain higher quality of large size forged parts. Cogging process is one of the primary stages in many open die forging processes. In the cogging process prior to some open die forging processes, internal cavities have to be eliminated for defect-free. The present work is concerned with the elimination of the internal cavities in large ingots so as to obtain sound products. In this study, hot compression tests were carried out to obtain the flow stress of cast microstructure at different temperature and strain rates. The FEM analysis is performed to investigate the overlap defect of cast ingots during cogging stage. The measured flow stress data were used to simulate the cogging process of cast ingot using the practical material properties. Also the analysis of cavity closure is performed by using the $DEFORM^{TM}-3D$. The calculated results of cavity closure behavior are compared with the measured results before and after cogging, which are scanned by the X-ray scanner. From this result, the criteria for deformation amounts effect on the cavity closure can be investigated by the comparison between practical experiment and numerical analysis.

Investigations into cavity flows have been conducted for decades now, most of them being about zero-pressure-gradient flows entering a cavity on a straight wall. However, the flow over curved walls in real-life situations has not been fully investigated. As cavity flows on curved walls exert centrifugal force, these walls are likely to possess different features from straight walls. To verify this possibility, this study investigated cavity flows on curved walls. Using numerical method, the effect of two variables, namely, radius of curvature on a curved wall and inlet Mach number, were investigated for subsonic and supersonic cavity flows. The result demonstrates that the value of the peak pressure generated inside the cavity increases with the decrease in the radius of curvature on a curved wall or an increase in the inlet Mach number. The total pressure loss in the cavity also results in an increase in the cavity drag.
