Domestic harbor yard storage facilities are a place specifically located in a container terminal for import and export of packaged dangerous goods, and due to the recent relaxed criteria for the secured open area, concerns for the extended damage upon accidents are increasing. In this study, the impact of damages by radiant heat was analyzed through a simulation of a pool fire caused by the leakage of flammable liquids from a tank container. As a result, it was analyzed that the distance of radiant heat according to threshold damage levels was beyond the current criteria of the secured open area, and the structural damage of adjacent containers could happen within a very short time if they were exposed to the early pool fire continuously. It is considered that this study will be helpful in preparing the proper criteria for the secured open area between yard storage facilities in a container terminal.

This landscape design proposal was presented to a design competition for Osong Biohealth Technopolis Institute of Cheongwon Gun Chung Cheong Buk Do which was held by Ministry of Health and Welfare in March 2004. The site is located in. Osong Li, Kang Wei Myun, Cheonwon Gun, Chung Cheong Buk Do and has an area of $402,600m^2$. The judging criteria for landscape design set by the client could be articulated as follows: an environment friendly design respecting the surrounding environment, a functionally efficient site plan by clustering buildings with similar uses, a site plan having 'front yard' by locating buildings in rear areas toward existing 'groves'. The proposal set the main design concept of this project as 'clustering'. By doing that, existing grades and plants can be saved, buildings with similar uses can be clustered, huge 'front yard' as a symbolic image of this project can be achieved, and finally many small open spaces for everyday life can be designed accordingly.

Linear motor (LM) based shuttle cars will play an important role in the future transportation systems of marine terminals to cope with increasing container flows. These systems are known as agile port terminals because of their significant advantages. However, routing for multiple shuttle cars is still an open issue. We present a network model of a container yard and propose constrained dynamic programming (DP) for its routing strategy with collision avoidance. The algorithm is a modified version of typical DP which is used to find an optimal path for a single traveler. We evaluate the new algorithm through simulation results for three shuttle cars in a mesh-type container yard.
The indiscriminate growth in global population poses a threat to the world in handling and disposal of Municipal solid waste. Rapid urban growth increases the production, consumption and generation of Municipal solid waste which leads to a drastic change in the environment. The methane produced from the Municipal Solid waste accounts for up to 11% global anthropogenic emissions, which is a major cause for global warming. This study reports the methane emission estimation using IPCC default, TNO, LandGEM, EPER and close flux chamber from open dump yards at Perungudi and Kodungaiyur in Chennai, India. The result reveals that the methane emission using close flux chamber was in the range of 8.8 Gg/yr-11.3 Gg/yr and 6.1Gg/yr to 9.1 Gg/yr at Kodungaiyur and Perungudi dump yard respectively. The per capita waste generation was estimated based on waste generation and population. The waste generation potential was projected using linear regression model for the period 2017-2050. The trend of CH4 emission in the actual field measurement were increased every year, similarly the emission trend also increased in IPCC default method (mass balance approach), EPER Germany (zero order decay model) where as TNO and Land GEM (first order decay model) were decreased. The present study reveals that Kodungaiyur dump yard is more vulnerable to methane emission compared to Perungudi dump yard and has more potential in waste to energy conversion mechanisms than compare to Perungudi dump yard.
The typical Japanese house has the characteristics of open dwellings to make them cool in the hot and humid summer. And then the traditional town house 'Machiya', being built very closely to each other and walled up both sides, it has taken the open-oriented characteristics in itself. The purpose of this study is to clarify that the open-oriented of traditional 'Machiya' has been succeeded to the new 'Machiya' in the latest. The new 'Machiya' shows the open-oriented, taking the ventilative 'Huki-nuke' space of traditional 'Machiya' as the new spatial formal elements, in the changes such as scale material space organization. The characteristics of 'Huki-nuke' space are represented as follows ; 1. The facade of the traditional 'Machiya', which has taken on a semitransparent qualty, has been generally changed to the closing qualty except for the open parts of shop and garage. This facade of the new 'Machiya' has been taken to be in keeping with the existing town as much as possible. 2. A series of three rooms, composed of shop/living dining kitchen/room from the road, have been dispersed to every floors in a building with a very extensive scale. But this serial and linear type remains as the loosefit space, and the long dwellings of the upper stories are divided by type each dwelling unit. 3. 'Tori-niwa', which is a consecutive and penetrating space, connects the road with the rooms of dwelling and functions as the circulation of man thing energy, The new 'Machiya' changed to the multi-story, the corridor and the stair have been fumed up as the elements in the place of 'Tori-niwa' The 'Huki-nuke' space was locted in the hall, stairwell, living dining kitchen room, and so on. 4. The small court yard 'Tsubo-niwa' and back yard 'Ura-niwa' at the both ends of living spaces would be made a hole in a series of rooms and enclosed by the neighboring 'Machiya'. On the contrary the new 'Machiya' at present takes in the private and closing organization enclosing the innercourt. 5. The open-oriented ${\ulcorner}$In${\lrcorner}$ or ${\ulcorner}$Out${\lrcorner}$ is not brought out because of the delicate spatial formal configuration in the traditional 'Machiya'. But the open-oriented ${\ulcorner}$In${\lrcorner}$, all sides being closed by walls, is well brought out in the new 'Machiya'.

Dwelling reflects the continuance and change that, in general, expresses the era's cultural and social values. The yard of Korean traditional dwelling, although it is an exterior space, it is a companion space that is engaged with the main house. It operates many housing functions that were not achieved within the interior space. After the time of enlightenment, shape, function and the meaning of Korean traditional house yard along with the change of values and major living style has been changing. Therefore, to understand how the Chosun Dynasty's house yard is being used in modern days, this study is based on the research of 47 sites and conducted a study regarding the acculturation and division the house yards. Typical elements in the target garden site that are expressed in a way differentiated from the original form of the Korean traditional house yard were the materials and methods of planting, the use of garden ornaments, paving materials, the use of water, and changes in kitchen gardens. As the role of house yards changes, the modern division of the style of gardens occurred; the areas in a garden have been divided and the form of a garden has been differentiated according to the limit and initiative. The pursuit of ornamentality and practicality led to the differentiation of gardens' functions, while seeking after convenience resulted in the division of gardens' materials. The use of gardens has also been differentiated by adding commerciality and a concept of open garden in both symbolic and daily manners.

This paper present a robot controller developed for shipbuilding yard. Since shipbuilding process handles large work pieces and has dusty and noisy environment, the developed controller has separated architecture into main control part and servo control part. Main control part is located in control room while servo control part is located near robot with work pieces. Commutation between two parts is done through SynqNet and RS485. Air purging system is adapted to servo control part for better reliability. We aimed open architecture in both hardware and software architecture. For open hardware architecture, we employed Compact PCI (cPCI) because it is widely used bus system and very reliable. Since lots of commercial boards are available with cPCI interface, upgrade and reconfiguration is easy. For open software architecture, Windows XP Embedded is selected as operating system (OS), because it is very popular OS and most hardware vender supports device driver for the windows XP.
The objectives of this research are to find the problems in the courtyards of the elementary schools and to provide the new design guidelines on the environmental design applicable to the court yard of the elementary schools. To analyze the current usage condition of the court yards of the elementary schools, sixty-three elementary schools in Seoul were investigated through the architectural drawings, and then nineteen of them were selected for the detailed investigations. The survey findings testified that the orientation of the courtyard's open direction and D/H ratio would be critically important for the architectural design of the courtyard in elementary schools. From these analyses, the following guidelines would be proposed on the courtyards for the improved elementary school design. Firstly, to increase the environmental condition of the courtyard, the orientation of the courtyard's open side would not be north. Secondly, to make the environmentally friendly courtyard, it is necessary to increase the D/H ratio. Sooner or later, the courtyard of the elementary schools would be introduced very largely. Thus, it is important to figure out the elements of the environmental design of the courtyard in elementary schools. The continuous research on the elements of the environmentally friendly design of the courtyard will provide the proper direction for the better design of the elementary schools.
The wind blowing at high velocity in an open storage yard leads to wind erosion and loss of material. Fence structures can be constructed around the periphery of the storage yard to reduce the erosion. The fence will cause turbulence and recirculation behind it which can be utilized to reduce the wind erosion and loss of material. A properly designed fence system will produce lesser turbulence and longer shelter effect. This paper aims to show the applicability of Support Vector Machine (SVM) to predict the recirculation length. A SVM model was built, trained and tested using the experimental data gathered from the literature. The newly developed model is compared with numerical turbulence model, in particular, modified $k-{\varepsilon}$ model along with the experimental results. From the results, it was observed that the SVM model has a better capability in predicting the recirculation length. The SVM model was able to predict the recirculation length at a lesser time as compared to modified $k-{\varepsilon}$ model. All the results are analyzed in terms of statistical measures, such as root mean square error, correlation coefficient, and scatter index. These examinations demonstrate that SVM has a strong potential as a feasible tool for predicting recirculation length.
