  • This study was aimed at exploring gender differences in time use and time famine between single-parent families. Data were obtained from the time use surveys, that were conducted by the Korea National Statistical Office in 2014. A total of 500 time diaries (168 from fathers, 332 from mothers) from single-parents aged between 20 and 59 were analyzed. Descriptive statistics, chi-square test, and t-test were used for the statistical analyses. Results indicated that the single-parent families exhibit gender differences in time use and subjective time famine. The single-mothers spend a significantly longer amount of time on housework and less time on leisure than do the single-fathers. The single fathers and mothers also differ in time use and time famine according to employment status and working days on/off.

  • An essential prerequisite for negotiating governance of 'internet,' a world of 'end to end' nature, is to guarantee end-users' participation. Internet Governance Forum (IGF), the outcome of World Summit on the Information Society(WSIS) Tunis Agenda, has played an important role as a representative mulitistakeholder - based governance model, which puts emphasis on wide range participation of stakeholders. Notwithstanding multistakeholderism materialized in IGF has been challenged, IGF itself is a unique place for participation to broad internet governance discourse, as all voices get hearing grounded on openness, inclusion, and transparency, quite distinct from the multilateral negotiation based model such as 'Conference on Cyberspace.' Therefore civil society which represents end-users' interest, as a crucial stakeholder of internet governance, should establish more strategic and coordinated approach to IGF itself as well as reformation discourse of internet governance. In this regard, civil society groups of Korea, began with hosting workshops and Open Forum at the 2013 IGF in Bali, Indonesia. This report also describes the detailed activities of Korean civil society group in 2013 IGF.

  • Motor is energy converting system to generate mechanical force from electrical power and there are various typed motors in home, office, factory, vehicles, aircraft, shipping, etc. Recently in compliance with performance and reliability and the applications of variable speed motors with invert driver are expanded. Almost high power inverter have IGBT and IGBT's fault cause motor system fault. If we can calculate and foresee troubles of IGBT, we can protect accident caused by motor system fault. In this paper, the deterioration test method of IGBT devices is proposed and the test results of proposed method are shown by evaluated equipment. The basic concept of proposed method is current-voltage characteristic curve test between drain and source of IGBT in open state. The applied voltage type is ramp and it is confirmed that the current-voltage curvet pattern of IGBT in open state represents IGBT's deterioration state.

  • A contractor or a main contractor is a company with full capacity to construct all project's works for the owner. A subcontractor is an organization that works with the main contractor to execute and complete work packages for the project. Selecting an effective subcontractor will help the efficiency and success of any projects in the construction industry. Therefore, this study identified subcontractor evaluation factors in Vietnam by collecting questionnaire survey data from engineers and staffs in the construction industry project environment. An exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was then performed to identify the critical factors when evaluating and selecting the subcontractor in construction projects. Moreover, when considering the impact level in terms of the average value, the research results showed that the most critical concern was the subcontractor's reputation. Furthermore, the top five factors affecting the sub-contractor evaluation and selection are (i) reputation, (ii) price, (iii) construction techniques, (iv) ability to implement projects according to commitments, and (v) subcontractor competence (the team of workers, technician staff, engineers with full capacity according to regulations). These research results provide an overall perspective that will help main contractors develop suitable subcontractors' evaluation and selection factors in their projects in the construction industry.

  • The lobby is the space that contributes the most to conveying the first impression of an enterprise or company that is occupying a building, and enhances the quality of the urban or business environment around an office building. Transparency is the biggest change in architecture since the modern age began, and it is the most important element of the lobby expression methods. Therefore this study was an attempt to understand the expression method of transparency which is expressed in the lobby space of office buildings, and used documentary survey and field survey to analyze it. In the examination of the theoretical background of transparency to make a specific study purpose, and based on an on-the-spot probe document, an attempt was made to grasp the expression method of Visual Transparency and Phenomenal Transparency. The data collected during this investigation was studied and a correlation coefficient. A summary of the findings of this study is as follows: 1) Transparent materials does not appear often in floors. But Phenomenal Transparency material is used in the floor. 2) During the survey it was discovered that Visual Transparency was often used in the walls of each investigated building. Phenomenal Transparency materials are found less in walls than in the floors of lobbies. 3) The expression methods that appeared the most in ceilings among the Visual Transparent expression methods. In the case of Phenomenal Transparency, the highest distribution is seen in ceilings. 4) The result of the analyzation of the correlation coefficient of Visual Transparency and Phenomenal Transparency is as follows: Expression method: There is more than one expression method of transparency, 'Open Sight', 'Light Material' and 'Surface Material' methods were introduced in case of the introduction of 'Transparent Material' among Visual Transparency in office building lobby space planning. If the 'Superimposed Space' method is introduced, then the 'Ambiguous Border' or 'Dual Sight' methods are introduced.

  • The office is an excellent candidate for implementing daylighting techniques because of the relatively high electric lighting power densities and long daytime use pattern. The quantity of light available for a space can be translated in term of the amount of energy savings through a process of a building energy simulation. To get significant energy savings in general illumination, the electric lighting system must be incorporated with a daylight - activated dimmer control. A prototype configuration of an office interior has been established and the integration between the building envelope and lighting and HVAC systems is evaluated based on computer modeling of a lighting control facility. First of all, an energy-efficient luminaire system is designed for both a totally open-plan office interior and a partitioned office. A lighting design and analysis program, Lumen-Micro 2000 predicts the optimal layout of a conventional fluorescent lighting fixture to meet the designed lighting level and calculates unit power density, which translates the demanded amount of electric lighting energy. A dimming control system integrated with the contribution of daylighting has been applied to the operating of the artificial lighting. Annual cooling load due to lighting and the projecting saving amount of cooling load due to daylighting under overcast diffuse sky are evaluated by a computer software, ENER-Win. In brief, the results from building energy simulation with measured daylight illumination levels and the performance of lighting control system indicate that daylighting can save over 70 percent of the required energy for general illumination in the perimeter zones through the year. A 25 % of electric energy for cooling may be saved by dimming and turning off the luminaires in the perimeter zones.
