  • A total stroke of an opening or closing motion of a hinge mechanism in a folder-type mobile phone is composed of two portions. In the first portion, human fingers act a force to open or close the folder. In this portion, the rotating folder compresses the coil spring installed in the mechanism. In the last portion, this compressed coil spring generates a torque to rotate the folder. The main merit of this study is that we have designed a hinge mechanism to be operated by a uniform torque in the first portion of the total stroke. The uniform torque means that it is constant along the folder's swing angle. This mechanism will give softer feeling to human fingers. A pair of contours in the mechanism plays an important role. It transforms rotation into translation in the first portion; on the other hand, it transforms translation into rotation in the last portion. In this study, we have developed an algorithm to obtain the pair of contour curves. We divided the total contour curves into finite sub-intervals. Assuming that the curves in every sub-interval are parabolas, we have obtained the coefficients of them by solving systems of nonlinear equations recursively.

Consequently, we can design hinge mechanisms that satisfy various demands of consumers. A pair of contours installed in the mechanism plays an important role. • An experimental investigation of the flow over the rectangular body located in close proximity to a ground board was reported using the particle image velocimetry (PIV) technique. The present experiments were conducted in a closed-loop open surface water channel with the Reynolds number, $Re_H=1.2{\times}10^4$ based on the model height. In addition to the PIV measurements, flow visualization studies were also carried out. The PIV technique provided instantaneous and time-averaged velocity vectors map, vorticity contours, streamline topology and turbulent quantities at various locations in the near wake. In the vertical symmetry plane, the upperbody flow is separated from the sharp top leading edge of the model and formed a large reverse flow region on the upper surface of the model. The flow structure downstream of the model has asymmetric double vortices. In the horizontal symmetry plane, identical separated flow regions occur on both vertical side walls and a pair of primary recirculatory bubbles dominates the wake region.

  • In Written on the Body, by creating the narrator's ungendered and unsexed identity, Winterson makes her text open to the reader's assumption of the narrator's sexual and gender identity. Thus, this novel has been read, on the one hand, as a lesbian text by those who assume that the narrator is a female and, on the other hand, as a suspicious text colluding with patriarchal and heterosexual values by those who define the narrator as a male. Those readings of the narrator as one of either sex/gender, however, demonstrate how (academic as well as general) readers have been accustomed to the gender-based reading habits in which textual meanings are dichotomously arranged along the lines of sex and gender of characters. Challenging those dualistic "gendered" readings, this paper reads Winterson's Written on the Body as a queer text which interrogates, troubles, and subverts the heterosexual concepts of narrative, desire, and body without reducing the narrator's identity to the essentialist sex and gender system. More specifically, this paper examines how the narrator's 'un-/over-' determined sexual and gender identity queers the narrative structure of author-character-reader; how the narrator's queer (fluid) desire is passing and traveling across categorical contours of (homo-/hetero-) sexual desires; how Winterson challenges the concept of a coherent body and queers the concept of body as a hermeneutic text with myriad textual grids which are not coherently mapped by power but randomly inscribed by nomadic desires.

  • Except for special situations, it is generally agreed that best results in the treatment of facial fractures is expected if reduction is done within the first 2 or 3 weeks after injury. We reduced facial bone fractures at 4 to 7 weeks after trauma. A 44-year-old female patient underwent open reduction for her right zygomaticomaxillary complex fracture at 7 weeks after injury. A 59-year-old female patient underwent surgery for the right mandible body and left parasymphysis fractures at 4 weeks after injury. Using traditional approaches, granulation tissue and callus were removed from the fracture sites, and malunited fracture lines were separated by a small osteotome. We reduced the displaced fractured zygoma and mandible to their normal anatomical positions and fixed them using titanium plates. No complications such as asymmetry, malunion, malocclusion, or trismus were seen. Unfavorable asymmetric facial contours were corrected, and we obtained good occlusion with favorable bony alignment. The functional and aesthetic outcomes were satisfactory. Through removal the callus and limited osteotomy, a successful approach to the previously fractured line was possible, and an exact correction with symmetry was obtained. This method can be a good option for obtaining good mobility and clinical results in treating delayed facial bone fractures.

  • Objective : The prefabrication of customized cranioplastic implants has been introduced to overcome the difficulties of intra-operative implant molding. The authors present a new technique, which consists of the prefabrication of implant molds using three-dimensional (3D) printers and polymethyl-methacrylate (PMMA) casting. Methods : A total of 16 patients with large skull defects (>100 $cm^2$) underwent cranioplasty between November 2009 and April 2011. For unilateral cranial defects, 3D images of the skull were obtained from preoperative axial 1-mm spiral computed tomography (CT) scans. The image of the implant was generated by a digital subtraction mirror-imaging process using the normal side of the cranium as a model. For bilateral cranial defects, precraniectomy routine spiral CT scan data were merged with postcraniectomy 3D CT images following a smoothing process. Prefabrication of the mold was performed by the 3D printer. Intraoperatively, the PMMA implant was created with the prefabricated mold, and fit into the cranial defect. Results : The median operation time was $184.36{\pm}26.07$ minutes. Postoperative CT scans showed excellent restoration of the symmetrical contours and curvature of the cranium in all cases. The median follow-up period was 23 months (range, 14-28 months). Postoperative infection was developed in one case (6.2%) who had an open wound defect previously. Conclusion : Customized cranioplasty PMMA implants using 3D printer may be a useful technique for the reconstruction of various cranial defects.

  • Grain boundary diffusion plays significant role in the fission gas release, which is one of the crucial processes dominating nuclear fuel performance. Gaseous fission products such as Xe and Kr generated inside fuel pellet have to diffuse in the lattice and in the grain boundary before they reach open space in the fuel rod. In the mean time, the grains in the fuel pellet grow and shrink according to grain growth kinetics, especially at elevated temperature at which nuclear reactors are operating. Thus the boundary movement ascribed to the grain growth greatly influences the fission gas release rate by lengthening or shortening the lattice diffusion distance, which is the rate limiting step. Sweeping fission gases by the moving boundary contributes to the increment of the fission gas release as well. Lattice and grain boundary diffusion processes in the fission gas release can be studied by 'tracer diffusion' technique, by which grain boundary diffusion can be estimated and used directly for low burn-up fission gas release analysis. However, even for tracer diffusion analysis, taking both the intragranular grain growth and the diffusion processes simultaneously into consideration is not easy. Only a few models accounting for the both processes are available and mostly handle them numerically. Numerical solutions are limited in the practical use. Here in this paper, an approximate analytical solution of the lattice and stationary grain boundary diffusion in a polycrystalline solid is developed for the tracer diffusion techniques. This short closed-form solution is compared to available exact and numerical solutions and turns out to be acceptably accurate. It can be applied to the theoretical modeling and the experimental analysis, especially PIE (post irradiation examination), of low burn up fission. gas release.

  • Purpose: Zygomaticomaxillary complex (ZMC) fracture is one of the most common facial injuries after facial trauma. As ZMC composes major facial buttress, it is a key element of the facial contour. So, when we treat these fractures, the operator should have a concern with the symmetry to restore normal appearance and function. But sometimes, unfavorable results may occur. The aim of this study is to analyze the unsatisfied midfacial contour after ZMC fractures reduction retrospectively and to point out the notandum. Methods: 369 patients, treated for fractures of the ZMC were included in the study. After the operation, such as open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF with titanium or absorbable materials), open reduction, and closed reduction, midfacial contour was evaluated with plain films and 3-dimensional computed tomography. And unfavorable asymmetric midfacial contours were correcterd by secondary correction and re-evaluated. Gross photographs were obtained at outpatient clinic. Results: Total of 38 patients had got a facial asymmetry and among of them 24 patients were treated secondary revisional ORIF operations for correction of unfavorable result of after primary reduction. Two of them had received tertiary operations, three patients had got osteotomy more than after one year and six patients had got minor procedures. The etiology of asymmetry were lateral displaced simple fracture of arch (n=2), lateral displaced comminuted fracture of arch (n=6), comminuted arch fracture combined posterior root fracture (n=9), and communited arch and body fracture (n=12), severely contused soft tissue (n=9). After the manipulations outcomes were acceptable. Conclusion: To prevent the asymmetry in ZMC fracture reduction, complete analysis of fracture, choice of appropriate operation technique, consider soft tissue, and secure of zygoma position are important. Especially, we should be more careful about communited fracture of zygomatic body and lateral displacement, root fracture of zygomatic arch. Because they are commom causes that make facial asymmetry. To get optimal result, ensure the definite bony reduction.
