  • In recent, Open markets are booming up rapidly. Open markets are one of the online marketplaces which mainly concentrated on spot transactions of commodities, and are differentiated from integrated internet shopping stores with market participants, trading rules and so on. This study investigated on factors affecting satisfaction with and preference on open markets by comparing open markets with integrated internet shopping stores, and aimed to figure out the reasons why open markets are growing up so rapidly and to forecast the future of open markets. To investigate the factors affecting buyers' satisfaction with and preference on internet shopping channel. I extracted several factors through literature reviews. The factors include the pros (cost saving and time saving), the cons (security concerns and privacy concerns), and decision making support suggested by Simon's research as well. Then, I constructed research model and related research hypotheses. To verify research hypotheses, I conducted field survey targeting on online buyers and analyzed research data using structural equation model. According to data analysis result, open markets have competitive advantages over integrated internet shopping stores with respect to cost saving, time saving, and decision making support. However, online buyers are still concerning privacy issues within open markets. In summary, buyers are considering that open markets are cheaper, faster, and more efficient internet shopping channel, compared with integrated internet shopping stores. However, open markets are required to dedicate to lessen buyers' privacy concerns to rebirth as more satisfying and preferable internet shopping channel and to prosper in the future.

  • For the first time, the present study has measured the velocity distribution function in circular open channel flow in a three-dimensional shape using a stereoscopic PIV system. For a given channel slope, water depth was varied from 30% to 80% of the channel diameter. Then, the characteristics of the velocity distribution function was compared according to the change of the water depth. Unlike a rectangular channel, the present experiment exhibited quite different shapes in the velocity distribution function whether the water depth is higher than 50% or not. Especially, the position of maximum velocity in the central and side wall changes in a different manner for the water depth above 50%. By differentiating the velocity distribution function, local wall friction coefficient was evaluated as a function of wall position. If the water depth goes down, the difference between the maximum and minimum values in the local wall friction coefficient increases, and the averaged value a1so increases.

  • Present study examines detonation wave propagation characteristics in annular channel. A normalized value of channel width to the annular radius was considered as a geometric parameter. A parametric study was carried out for a various regimes of detonation waves from weakly unstable to highly unstable detonation waves. Numerical approaches that used in the previous study of numerical requirements of the simulation of detonation wave propagations in 2D and 3D channel were used also for the present study with OpenMP parallization for multi-core SMP machines. The major effect of the curved geometry on the detonation wave propagation seems to be a flow compression effect, regardless of the detonation regimes. The flow compression behind the detonation wave by the curved geometry of the circular channel pushes the detonation wave front and results in the overdriven detonation waves with increased detonation speed beyond the Chapmann-Jouguet speed. This effect gets stronger as the normalized radius smaller, as expected. The effect seems to be negligible beyond the normalized radius of 10.

  • General RFID system has assumed that the communication channel between reader and back-end database is secure channel. However, the reader can be communicated with the database through insecure channel like the communication channel between the reader and the tag according to application environment. In this paper, we propose a new secure RFID mutual authentication protocol based on open network channel which assumed that all communication channels between the database, the reader and the tag are insecure communication channels. The proposed protocol uses a secure one-way hash function to provide authentication and integrity against all communication messages which exchanged on the open channels. In addition, we designed that the proposed protocol can provide forward secrecy by performing the database and the tag update their old secret key with a new secret key after finished mutual authentication.

  • This paper presents a numerical investigation of vorticity generation in fully vegetated open-channel flows. The Reynolds stress model is used for the turbulence closure. Open-channel flows with rough bed-smooth sidewalls and smooth bed-rough sidewalls are simulated. The computed vectors show that in channel flows with rough bed and rough sidewalls, the free-surface secondary currents become relatively smaller and larger, respectively, compared with that of plain channel flows. Also, open-channel flows over vegetation are simulated. The computed bottom vortex occupies the entire water depth, while the free-surface vortex is reduced. The contours of turbulent anisotropy and Reynolds stress are presented with different density of vegetation. The budget analysis of vorticity equation is carried out to investigate the generation mechanism of secondary currents. The results of the budget analysis show that in plain open-channel flow, the production by anisotropy is important in the vicinity of the wall and free-surface boundaries, and the production by Reynolds stress is important in the region away from the boundaries. However, this rule is not effective in vegetated channel flows. Also, in plain channel flows, the vorticity is generated mainly in the vicinity of the free-surface and the bottom, while in vegetated channel flows, the regions of the bottom and vegetation height are important to generate the vorticity.

  • Ethanol often causes critical health problems by altering the neuronal activities of the central and peripheral nerve systems. One of the cellular targets of ethanol is the plasma membrane proteins including ion channels and receptors. Recently, we reported that ethanol elevates membrane excitability in sympathetic neurons by inhibiting Kv7.2/7.3 channels in a cell type-specific manner. Even though our studies revealed that the inhibitory effects of ethanol on the Kv7.2/7.3 channel was diminished by the increase of plasma membrane phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PI(4,5)P2), the molecular mechanism of ethanol on Kv7.2/7.3 channel inhibition remains unclear. By investigating the kinetics of Kv7.2/7.3 current in high K+ solution, we found that ethanol inhibited Kv7.2/7.3 channels through a mechanism distinct from that of tetraethylammonium (TEA) which enters into the pore and blocks the gate of the channels. Using a non-stationary noise analysis (NSNA), we demonstrated that the inhibitory effect of ethanol is the result of reduction of open probability (PO) of the Kv7.2/7.3 channel, but not of a single channel current (i) or channel number (N). Finally, ethanol selectively facilitated the kinetics of Kv7.2 current suppression by voltage-sensing phosphatase (VSP)-induced PI(4,5)P2 depletion, while it slowed down Kv7.2 current recovery from the VSP-induced inhibition. Together our results suggest that ethanol regulates neuronal activity through the reduction of open probability and PI(4,5)P2 sensitivity of Kv7.2/7.3 channels.

  • This study analyzes the performance of power-line communications for sending open automated demand response (OpenADR) signals. In particular, we study main channel disturbances that can affect end-to-end communications and which have not been previously studied in detail. Our analysis takes into account physical phenomena, such as background and impulsive noise sources, channel attenuation, and multipath effects, and considers the physical, network, and applications layers of the communications structure. The performance of the physical layer is the basis for computing the packet error rate. In analyzing application performance, we focus specifically on the latency in several communication environments. If a channel is impaired only by background noise, latencies are less than 40 seconds. With the addition of impulsive noise in the channel, this value increases as long as 68 seconds. Using these figures, we find that power-line technology is more suitable for "slow" demand programs, such as day-ahead or day-of curtailments, rather than ancillary services markets, which require near-real-time communication.

  • NAND flash memory-based SSD needs an internal software, Flash Translation Layer(FTL) to provide traditional block device interface to the host because of its physical constraints, such as erase-before-write and large erase block. However, because useful host-side information cannot be delivered to FTL through the narrow block device interface, SSDs suffer from a variety of problems such as increasing garbage collection overhead, large tail-latency, and unpredictable I/O latency. Otherwise, the new type of SSD, open-channel SSD exposes the internal structure of SSD to the host so that underlying NAND flash memory can be managed directly by the host-level FTL. Especially, I/O data classification by using host-side information can achieve the reduction of garbage collection overhead. In this paper, we propose a new scheme to reduce garbage collection overhead of open-channel SSD by separating the journal from other file data for the journaling filesystem. Because journal has different lifespan with other file data, the Write Amplification Factor (WAF) caused by garbage collection can be reduced. The proposed scheme is implemented by modifying the host-level FTL of Linux and evaluated with both Fio and Filebench. According to the experiment results, the proposed scheme improves I/O performance by 46%~50% while reducing the WAF of open-channel SSDs by more than 33% compared to the previous one.
