  • The novel coronavirus pandemic has had a significant impact on society and everyday life. The pandemic imposed a global shutdown leading to many challenges such as the suspension of academic programs at universities. The result of this suspension contributed to the rapid overnight migration of educational activities from traditional face-to-face learning to a virtual environment which until then was unfamiliar to both instructors and students. This study identified the experiences faced by built environment higher education instructors in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa during this sudden switch to online teaching and learning. This pilot study employed a quantitative research approach to survey instructor experiences on online teaching and learning during a global pandemic. The data was computed and analyzed using IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 27. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data collected. The study sample comprised of 20 higher education instructors in the region of the KwaZulu Natal province in South Africa. Findings from the study revealed that instructors faced adaptive challenges with rapidly having to redesign and remodel the mode of academic course delivery and assessments to suit an online platform. Additionally, instructors observed that students faced technological challenges such as connectivity and navigating the online learning management system platforms. The challenges identified by instructors and students can be effectively transformed to opportunities for future learning under the 'new normal'.

  • Consumers have an increasingly active role in the marketing cycle, using social media channels to create, distribute, and consume digital content. In this context, this paper investigates the impact of user- and marketer-generated content on consumer purchase intentions and the approach to designing an effective social media marketing platform. Referencing a literature review of social media marketing and consumer purchase intentions, a case study of the social media-marketing platform, 0.8L, was undertaken using both qualitative and quantitative results through content analysis and a participatory survey. First, about 450 consumer reviews for ten sunscreen products posted on the 0.8L platform were compared with products' marketer-generated content. Next, 55 subjects participated in a survey regarding purchase intentions toward moisturizing creams on the 0.8L platform. The results indicated that user-generated content (i.e., texts and photos) provided more personal experiences of the product usage process, whereas marketers focused on distinctive product photos and features. Moreover, customer reviews (particularly high volume and narrative format) had more impact on purchase decisions than marketer information in the online cosmetics market. Real users' honest reviews (both positive and negative) were found to aid companies' prompt and straightforward assessment of newly released products. In addition to the importance of customer-driven marketing practices, distinctive user experience design features of a competitive social media-marketing platform are identified to facilitate the creation and sharing of sincere customer reviews that resonate with potential buyers.

  • As changes in social and economic paradigms are accelerating, and non-contact has become the new normal due to the COVID-19 pandemic, metaverse services that build societies in online activities and virtual reality are spreading rapidly. This study analyzes the perception and trend of metaverse fashion using big data. TEXTOM was used to extract metaverse and fashion-related words from Naver and Google and analyze their frequency and importance. Additionally, structural equivalence analysis based on the derived main words was conducted to identify the perception and trend of metaverse fashion. The following results were obtained: First, term frequency(TF) analysis revealed the most frequently appearing words were "metaverse," "fashion," "virtual," "brand," "platform," "digital," "world," "Zepeto," "company," and "game." After analyzing TF-inverse document frequency(TF-IDF), "virtual" was the most important, followed by "brand," "platform," "Zepeto," "digital," "world," "industry," "game," "fashion show," and "industry." "Metaverse" and "fashion" were found to have a high TF but low TF-IDF. Further, words such as "virtual," "brand," "platform," "Zepeto," and "digital" had a higher TF-IDF ranking than TF, indicating that they had high importance in the text. Second, convergence of iterated correlations analysis using UNICET revealed four clusters, classified as "virtual world," "metaverse distribution platform," "fashion contents technology investment," and "metaverse fashion week." Fashion brands are hosting virtual fashion shows and stores on metaverse platforms where the virtual and real worlds coexist, and investment in developing metaverse-related technologies is under way.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze user perceptions of tourism platforms through big data. Data were collected from Naver, Daum, and Google as big data analysis channels. Using semantic network analysis with the keyword 'tourism platform,' a total of 29,265 words were collected. The collection period was set for two years, from August 31, 2021, to August 31, 2023. Keywords were analyzed for connected networks using TexTom and Ucinet programs for social network analysis. Keywords perceived by tourism platform users include 'travel,' 'diverse,' 'online,' 'service,' 'tourists,' 'reservation,' 'provision,' and 'region.' CONCOR analysis revealed four groups: 'platform information,' 'tourism information and products,' 'activation strategies for tourism platforms,' and 'tourism destination market.' This study aims to expand and activate services that meet the needs and preferences of users in the tourism field, as well as platforms tailored to the changing market, based on user perception, current status, and trend data on tourism platforms.

  • Most organizations adopt a process-based approach to manage their operations and now business process management(BPM) is a well-established concept. Because ISO 9001:2000 emphasizes process based, Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information has taken ISO 9001:2000 certificate in November 11, 2003 and now implements quality management systems based on BPMS further applies Hypertext. We call it Online KQMS (KISTI Quality Management System). And Online KQMS is implemented under a platform independent framework based on the web environment. Online KQMS based on BPMS and Hypertext is a new example in field of ISO quality management and is expected to support process management well.

  • Ideation is a process of generating new ideas or solutions using online crowd-sourcing technologies. This process has the potential to change the ways by which government agencies innovate and solve problems. Although increasingly more government agencies are implementing online ideation programs to tap into their employees' ideas and creativity, little is known about the unique challenges and effective practices of such programs. Thus, many government agencies are undergoing trial and error and often reinventing the wheel. This research aims to address this problem. By analyzing a focus group session and four cases of U.S. federal government ideation programs designed for their employees, this research identifies important organizational and technological challenges and effective practices. Furthermore, effective practices are grouped into different phases of ideation process and strategic vs. tactical levels to provide more meaningful and actionable insights. This research is an important step towards building a theoretical foundation for government ideation programs. The implications and limitations of this study are discussed.

  • As the Internet has expanded and the continuous expansion of online shopping in China, many rural areas also have sales outlets. Due to the impact of economic conditions, rural locations have inadequate e-commerce logistical infrastructure, the number of outlets is small, and each other is in a decentralized state. For various reasons, the advancement of rural e-commerce logistics lags far behind that in urban areas. As the Internet of Things with big data grow in popularity, we can create and enhance the assurance system for the booming ecommerce in rural areas by building the support system of rural online shopping platform, and strengthening the joint distribution of logistics terminals based on data mining, so as to encourage the quick and healthy growth of rural online shopping.

  • This field study explores how varying target amounts influence donation behavior using real-world data from the online fundraising platform GoFundMe. We analyzed donation data across four different target amounts and found significant differences in donation patterns. Lower target amounts were found to encourage higher individual donations, while excessively high targets were less effective. The data revealed that donors tend to be more responsive to campaigns with achievable goals, possibly due to a perceived higher impact of their contributions. Conversely, campaigns with unrealistically high targets often struggled to gain traction, suggesting a potential donor deterrent effect. We believe these findings provide practical insights for nonprofits on setting realistic and achievable target amounts to maximize donations. Our study underscores the importance of strategic target setting in enhancing fundraising outcomes. We conclude that this insight has significant implications for how non-profit organizations approach their fundraising strategies, potentially improving the effectiveness of online charitable campaigns.
