Modeling the effects of excess water on soybean growth in converted paddy field in Japan 1. Predicting groundwater level and soil moisture condition - The case of Biwa lake reclamation area

  • In Japan, more than 80 % of soybean growing area is converted fields and excess water is one of the major problems in soybean production. For example, recent study (Yoshifuji et al., 2016) suggested that in the fields of shallow groundwater level (GWL) (< 1m depth), rising GWL even in a short period (e.g. 1 day) causes inhibition of soybean growth. Thus it becomes more and more important to predict GWL and soil moisture in detail. In addition to conventional surface drainage and underdrain, FOEAS (Farm Oriented Enhancing Aquatic System), which is expected to control GWL in fields adequately, has been developed recently. In this study we attempted to predict GWL and soil moisture condition at the converted field with FOEAS in Biwa lake reclamation area, Shiga prefecture, near the center of the main island of Japan. Two dimensional HYDRUS model (Simuinek et al., 1999) based on common Richards' equation, was used for the calculation of soil water movement. The calculation domain was considered to be 10 and 5 meter in horizontal and vertical direction, respectively, with two layers, i.e. 20cm-thick of plowed layer and underlying subsoil layer. The center of main underdrain (10 cm in diameter) was assumed to be 5 meter from the both ends of the domain and 10-60cm depth from the surface in accordance with the field experiment. The hydraulic parameters of the soil was estimated with the digital soil map in "Soil information web viewer" and Agricultural soil-profile physical properties database, Japan (SolphyJ) (Kato and Nishimura, 2016). Hourly rainfall depth and daily potential evapo-transpiration rate data were given as the upper boundary condition (B.C.). For the bottom B.C., constant upward flux, which meant the inflow flux to the field from outside, was given. Seepage face condition was employed for the surrounding of the underdrain. Initial condition was employed as GWL=60cm. Then we compared the simulated and observed results of volumetric water content at depth of 15cm and GWL. While the model described the variation of GWL well, it tended to overestimate the soil moisture through the growing period. Judging from the field condition, and observed data of soil moisture and GWL, consideration of soil structure (e.g. cracks and clods) in determination of soil hydraulic parameters at the plowed layer may improve the simulation results of soil moisture.

3차원 GIS를 활용한 도시소음 시각화에 관한 연구 (A Study on Urban Noise Visualization using 3D-GIS)

  • 소음문제는 대도시 환경문제 중 주요한 문제 중의 하나로 관심이 높으며, 도시계획과 설계분야에 소음지도의 활용이 증가하고 있는 추세이다. 그러나, 기존의 2D 소음지도는 주로 평면적인 소음분포만을 나타내고 있어 최근 고층화, 대형화 되어가는 건물의 각 공간에 대한 미시적 소음분석 및 시각화에는 한계를 갖고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 평면적이고 지역적인 소음분포의 표현에만 머무르고 있는 기존 소음지도의 한계점을 인지하고 소음의 수직적인 분포를 고려하여 공간단위의 소음분석 및 시각화를 위한 데이터모델을 제시하였다. GIS의 토폴로지 구조를 3차원으로 확장함으로써 3차원 공간분석 및 공간단위 시각화가 가능한 3차원 GIS 데이터모델을 제안하고 이를 3차원 소음정보시스템에 적용하고자 하였다. 간단한 3차원 소음정보시스템을 구축하여 3차원 공간질의, 시간대별 3차원 소음시각화, 방음벽의 높이에 따른 소음의 변화량을 시뮬레이션하고 각각의 경우 소음노출가구 및 인구를 정량적으로 산정함으로써 도시계획 및 설계분야에서의 활용가능성을 예시하였다.

Modification of Sea Water Temperature by Wind Driven Current in the Mountainous Coastal Sea

  • Numerical simulation on marine wind and sea surface elevation was carried out using both three-dimensional hydrostatic and non-hydrostatic models and a simple oceanic model from 0900 LST, August 13 to 0900 LST, August 15, 1995. As daytime easterly meso-scale sea-breeze from the eastern sea penetrates Kangnung city in the center part as basin and goes up along the slope of Mt. Taegullyang in the west, it confronts synoptic-scale westerly wind blowing over the top of the mountain at the mid of the eastern slope and then the resultant wind produces an upper level westerly return flow toward the East Sea. In a narrow band of weak surface wind within 10km of the coastal sea, wind stress is generally small, less than l${\times}$10E-2 Pa and it reaches 2 ${\times}$ 10E-2 Pa to the 35 km. Positive wind stress curl of 15 $\times$ 10E-5Pa $m^{-1}$ still exists in the same band and corresponds to the ascent of 70 em from the sea level. This is due to the generation of northerly wind driven current with a speed of 11 m $S^{-1}$ along the coast under the influence of south-easterly wind and makes an intrusion of warm waters from the southern sea into the northern coast, such as the East Korea Warm Current. On the other hand, even if nighttime downslope windstorm of 14m/s associated with both mountain wind and land-breeze produces the development of internal gravity waves with a hydraulic jump motion of air near the coastal inland surface, the surface wind in the coastal sea is relatively moderate south-westerly wind, resulting in moderate wind stress. Negative wind stress curl in the coast causes the subsidence of the sea surface of 15 em along the coast and south-westerly coastal surface wind drives alongshore south-easterly wind driven current, opposite to the daytime one. Then, it causes the intrusion of cold waters like the North Korea Cold Current in the northern coastal sea into the narrow band of the southern coastal sea. However, the band of positive wind stress curl at the distance of 30km away from the coast toward further offshore area can also cause the uprising of sea waters and the intrusion of warm waters from the southern sea toward the northern sea (northerly wind driven current), resulting in a counter-clockwise wind driven current. These clockwise and counter-clockwise currents much induce the formation of low clouds containing fog and drizzle in the coastal region.

  • Reflection method using ultrasonic source has been attempted to obtain the information about tunnel lining structures composed of lining, shotcrete, water barrier and voids at the back of lining. In this work, two different types of sources, i.e. single-pulse source and sweep source, can be used. Single-pulse source with short time duration has the frequency content whose amplitudes tend to be concentrated around the dominant frequency, whereas sweep source with long time duration denotes a flat distribution of relatively larger amplitude over a broad frequency band, although the peak to peak amplitude of single-pulse source wavelet is equivalent to that of sweep source one. In traditional seismic application, a single-pulse source(weight drop, dynamite) is typically used. However, to investigate the fine structure, as it is the case in the tunnel lining structure, the sweep wavelet can be also a desirable source waveform primarily due to the higher energy over a broad frequency band. For the investigation purposes of sweep source, a physical modeling is a useful tool, especially to study problems of wave propagation in the fine layered media. The main purpose of this work was using a physical modeling technique to explore the applicability of sweep source to the delineation of inner layer boundaries. To this end, a two-dimensional physical model analogous to the lining structure was built and a special ultrasonic sweep source was devised. The measurements were carried out in the sweep frequency range 10 ∼ 60 KHz, as peformed in the regular reflection survey(e.g. roll-along technique). The measured data were further rearranged with a proper software (cross-correlation). The resulting seismograms(raw data) showed quitely similar features to those from a single-pulse source, in which high frequency content of reflection events could be considerably emphasized, as expected. The data were further processed by using a regular data processing system "FOCUS" and the results(stack section) were well associated with the known model structure. In this context, it is worthy to note that in view of measuring condition the sweep source would be applied to benefit the penetration of high frequency energy into the media and to enhance the resolution of reflection events.

리튬 이온 폴리머 전지의 사이클 수명 모델링 (Modeling of the Cycle Life of a Lithium-ion Polymer Battery)

  • 리튬 이온 폴리머 전지의 사이클에 의한 용량 감소를 예측할 수 있는 1차원 모델링을 수행하였다. 이 연구에 사용된 수학적 모델에서는 전지 셀에서의 전기화학반응 속도론, 이온의 전달현상, 용량 감소 반응(parasitic reaction)을 고려하였다. 모델링의 신뢰성을 검증하기 위하여 LG화학에서 개발된 5Ah 급 리튬 이온 폴리머 전지의 사이클 성능을 측정하여 얻은 결과와 모델링의 결과를 비교하였다. 사이클 시험은 정전류 방전과 정전류-정전압 충전을 수행하였다. 방전 시험은 1C로 수행하였다. 충전상태(state of charge; SOC)의 범위는 1부터 0.2 사이에서 수행하였다. 충전실험은 정전류-정전압 방법으로(제한전류 10C, 제한전압 4.2 V) 수행하였고, 정전압 충전일 때 충전 전류가 50 mA에 도달하면 시험을 종료하였다. 전지의 용량측정은 사이클 시험이 시작전과 100 사이클마다 1C와 5C에서 용량을 측정하였다. 모델링에 근거하여 얻은 결과와 시험결과가 잘 일치하였다.

A comparative study of established z score models for coronary artery diameters in 181 healthy Korean children

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the statistical properties of four previously developed pediatric coronary artery z score models in healthy Korean children. Methods: The study subjects were 181 healthy Korean children, whose age ranged from 1 month to 15 years. The diameter of each coronary artery was measured using 2-dimensional echocardiography and converted to the z score in the four models (McCrindle, Olivieri, Dallaire, and Japanese model). Descriptive statistical analyses and 1-sample t tests were performed. Results: All calculated z scores had P values of ${\geq}0.050$ using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. The one sample t test showed that the mean z scores did not converge to zero except in 1 model, and the mean right coronary artery (RCA) z score was less than zero in all 4 models. The smaller RCA diameter in this study could be associated with the more distal measuring point used to avoid the conal branch. The percentage of subjects with extreme z score values (${\geq}2.0$ and ${\geq}2.5$) for the left main coronary artery (LMCA) seems to be higher in the Dallaire (4.9% and 3.3%) and Japanese models (7.1% and 3.8%). Conclusion: All 4 models showed statistical feasibility of normal distribution. More precise instructions would be needed for the measurement of the RCA. The higher percentage of extreme z scores for the LMCA is compatible with the basic understanding of anatomic variation in the LMCA.

Sintering Mixtures in the Stage of Establishing Chemical Equilibrium

  • The Principal deficiency of the existing notion about the sintering-mixtures consists in the fact that almost no attention is focused on the Phenomenon of alloy formation during sintering, its connection with dimensional changes of powder bodies, and no correct ideas on the driving force for the sintering process in the stage of establishing chemical equilibrium in a system are available as well. Another disadvantage of the classical sintering theory is an erroneous conception on the dissolution mechanism of solid in liquid. The two-particle model widely used in the literature to describe the sintering phenomenon in solid state disregards the nature of the neighbouring surrounding particles, the presence of pores between them, and the rise of so called arch effect. In this presentation, new basic scientific principles of the driving forces for the sintering process of a two-component powder body, of a diffusion mechanism of the interaction between solid and liquid phases, of stresses and deformation arising in the diffusion zone have been developed. The major driving force for sintering the mixture from components capable of forming solid solutions and intermetallic compounds is attributed to the alloy formation rather than the reduction of the free surface area until the chemical equilibrium is achieved in a system. The lecture considers a multiparticle model of the mixed powder-body and the nature of its volume changes during solid-state and liquid-phase sintering. It explains the discovered S-and V-type concentration dependencies of the change in the compact volume during solid-state sintering. It is supposed in the literature that the dissolution of solid in liquid is realised due to the removal of atoms from the surface of the solid phase into the melt and then their diffusicn transfer from the solid-liquid interface into the bulk of liquid. It has been shown in our experimental studies that the mechanism of the interaction between two components, one of them being liquid, consist in diffusion of the solvent atoms from the liquid into the solid phase until the concentration of solid solutions or an intermetallic compound in the surface layer enables them to pass into the liquid by means of melting. The lecture discusses peculimities of liquid phase formation in systems with intermediate compounds and the role of the liquid phase in bringing about the exothermic effect. At the frist stage of liquid phase sintering the diffusion of atoms from the melt into the solid causes the powder body to grow. At the second stage the diminution of particles in size as a result of their dissolution in the liquid draws their centres closer to each other and makes the compact to shrink Analytical equations were derived to describe quantitatively the porosity and volume changes of compacts as a result of alloy formation during liquid phase sinteIing. Selection criteria for an additive, its concentration and the temperature regime of sintering to control the density the structure of sintered alloys are given.

부진동의 제어를 위한 공진장치의 현장적용 (Application of Wave Resonator to the Field for Controlling Secondary Undulation)

  • 본 연구에서는 장주기파에 의한 부진동 및 공진에 의한 선박의 이상동요를 저감시키기 위하여 공진장치를 실해역의 기설 항에 부착하여 그의 제어능을 수치적으로 검토하였다. 수치해석에 2차원타원형완경사방정식에 기초한 유한요소모델인 상용소프트웨어 SMS (Surface water Modeling System)의 CGWAVE MODULE을 적용하였고, 직사각형모델항만에 대한 기존의 실험 및 해석결과와의 비교 검토로부터 부진동해석에 대한 SMS의 타당성과 유효성 및 적용한 마찰계수값의 타당성을 검증하였다. 이로부터 직사각형항만에 공진장치의 부착유무에 따른 부진동의 비교검토로부터 그의 제어능을 확인하였다. 그리고, 포항신항에서 발생될 수 있는 부진동 및 계류선박의 장주기동요를 감쇠시키기 위하여 여러 크기의 공진장치를 적용하여 선박의 이상동요를 발생시키는 공진주기를 보다 장주기측으로 이동시키는 방안을 검토하였고, 이로부터 그의 유용성을 확인할 수 있었다.

지오그리드와 말뚝으로 보강된 성토지반의 보강 및 아칭효과 연구 (Reinforcement and Arching Effect of Geogrid-reinforced and Pile-supported Embankments)

  • 토목섬유로 보강된 성토지지말뚝공법은 기존 성토지지말뚝공법의 말뚝간격처리 및 말뚝캡 면적문제를 개선하며 효과적으로 지지력을 보강하고 특히 전체침하 및 부등침하 감소시킬 수 있는 공법으로 최근 활용이 증가하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 지오그리드로 보강된 성토지지말뚝공법의 보강 및 아칭효과에 대하여 연구하기 위하여 지오그리드 보강유무, 말뚝간격변화에 따른 현장모형실험과 2차원 수치해석을 수행하였다. 수치해석적 연구는 범용 유한차분해석 프로그램인 FLAC 2-D를 사용하였으며, 지반-말뚝-지오그리드의 하중전달 메카니즘에 대하며 분석하였다. 지오그리드로 보강된 성토지지말뚝의 하중전달은 성토제체 내의 아칭효과, 지오그리드의 인장, 말뚝으로의 응력전이 등의 과정이 복합적으로 발생한다. 현장모형실험 및 수치해석연구 결과에 따르면 지오그리드의 보강에 따라 아칭효과는 미소하게 감소하지만, 부등침하는 급격히 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, D/b=3(D: 말뚝캡 간격, b: 말뚝직경)일때 무보강 지반에 비하여 $40\%$의 침하가 감소하며, D/b=6이상일 경우는 지오그리드에 의한 하중전이가 발생하지 않아 보강효과가 거의 없는 것으로 나타났다.

야외조건하(野外條件下)에서 독일가문비(Picea abies Karst) 침엽(針葉)의 순(純) 광합성률(光合成率)의 단기(短期) 변화(變化)에 대한 실험적(實驗的) 연구(硏究) (Experimental Studies of the Short-Term Fluctuations of Net Photosynthesis Rate of Norway Spruce Needles under Field Conditions)

  • 독일 중부(Solling Hills)의 가문비림 임관의 구조적인 수분증산 통도특성은 LE와 H의 유동량으로 측정되고, 1996년 6월중 재배열된 Penman-Monteith 식을 이용하여 SVAT 모형을 설계하여 도출하였다. 또한 SLODSVAT 모형을 통한 전체 임관 내 각 침엽의 연속적인 수분통도성을 평가하여 임관기공의 통도성을 비교하였다. 이와 같은 결과에서 나온 임관 표면 통도성과 유동량을 설계하고, SLODSVAT 모형에 의해 설계된 기공 통도성 사이에서 중요한 차이점을 알 수 있었다. 이 차이점은 산림 임관의 범위내에 빗물리적인 요소에 의해 영향을 받았음을 알 수 있으며, 일반적으로 임관 표변의 통도성은 전체 측정 기간 동안 임관 기공 전도력보다 크게 나타났다. 또한 산림의 전체 증발산량에 대한 하층부의 공헌도는 작았고, 임관의 복사에너지 균형에 의존하지는 않는 것으로 나타났다. 하층부 증발산량의 기각은 독일 가문비림에 대한 임관 표면 전도력의 과대 평가로서 나타난 결과이다.
