  • In an underlay cognitive simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) network, communication from secondary user (SU) to secondary destination (SD) is accomplished with decode-and-forward (DF) relays. Multiple energy-constrained relays are assumed to harvest energy from SU via power splitting (PS) protocol and complete SU secure information transmission with beamforming. Hence, physical layer security (PLS) is investigated in cognitive SWIPT network. In order to interfere with eavesdropper and improve relay's energy efficiency, a destination-assisted jamming scheme is proposed. Namely, SD transmits artificial noise (AN) to interfere with eavesdropping, while jamming signal can also provide harvested energy to relays. Beamforming vector and power splitting ratio are jointly optimized with the objective of SU secrecy capacity maximization. We solve this non-convex optimization problem via a general two-stage procedure. Firstly, we obtain the optimal beamforming vector through semi-definite relaxation (SDR) method with a fixed power splitting ratio. Secondly, the best power splitting ratio can be obtained by one-dimensional search. We provide simulation results to verify the proposed solution. Simulation results show that the scheme achieves the maximum SD secrecy rate with appropriate selection of power splitting ratio, and the proposed scheme guarantees security in cognitive SWIPT networks.

  • A new operation strategy. which can guarantee the data consistency of engineering information among the various intelligent information systems, is presented for engineering information of bridges, and construction methodology of integrated database is developed to support the strategy. The two core standard techniques are adopted to construct the integrated database. One is the Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data (STEP) for CAD/CAE information and the other is the Extensible Markup Language(XML) for engineering document information. The former enabler structural engineers to handle the structural details with three-dimensional geometry-based information of bridges, and ACIS solid modeling kernel is employed to develop AutoCAD based application modules. The latter can make document files into data type for web-based application modules which assist end-users to search and retrieve engineering document data. In addition, relaying algorithm is developed to integrate the two different information, e.g. CAD/CAE information and engineering document information. The pilot application modules are also developed, and a case study subjected to the Han-Nam bridge is presented at the end of the paper to illustrate the use of the developed application modules.

  • An optimal design code for centrifugal pumps has been developed to determine geometric and fluid dynamic variables under appropriate design constraints. The optimization problem has been formulated with a nonlinear objective function to minimize one, two or all of the fluid dynamic losses, the net positive suction head required and the product price of a pump stage depending on the weighting factors selected as the design compromise. The optimal solution Is obtained by means of the Hooke and Jeeves direct search method. The performance analysis Is based on the mean streamline analysis using the present state-of-the-art loss correlations. The optimized efficiency and design variables of centrifugal pumps are presented in this paper as a function of non-dimensional specific speed in the range, $0.5{\leq}N$, ${\leq}1.3$. The diagrams presented herein can be used efficiently in the preliminary design phase of centrifugal pumps.

  • Modern electrochemical energy devices involve generation and reduction of fuel gases through electrochemical reactions of water splitting, alcohol oxidation, oxygen reduction, etc. Initially, these processes were executed in the presence of noble metal-based catalyst that showed low overpotential and high current density. However, its high cost, unavailability, corrosion and related toxicity limited its application. The search for alternative with high stability, durability, and efficiency led scientists towards carbon nanoparticles supported catalysts which has high surface area, good electrical conductivity, tunable morphology, low cost, ease of synthesis and stability. Carbon nanoparticles are classified into two groups based on morphology, one and zero dimensional particles. Carbon nanoparticles at zero dimension, denoted as carbon dots, are less used carbon support compared to other forms. However, recently carbon dots with improved electronic properties have become popular as catalyst as well as catalyst support. This review focused on the recent advances in electrocatalytic activities of carbon dots. The mechanisms of common electrocatalytic reactions and the role of the catalysts are also discussed. The review also proposed future developments and other research directions to overcome current limitations.

  • We check up on whether the one-dimensional station precipitation model of Geogakakos and Bras is suitable to the storm model for Chonju station or not. The fundamental variables of the physically based model consists of the pressure at the cloud top, the hight-averaged updraft velocity(HAUV), and the inverse of the average diameter of the hydrometeors(ADH) at cloud base. And they are parameterized by input variables. The parameters are eastimated by the direct search algorithm of Hooke and Jeeves in this paper. The results show that HAUV and ADH are dominant factors to minimize root mean square error between the calculated and the observed rainfall. In this numerical analysis, the deviation between the calculated and the total observed rainfall is small, otherwise the gap for the time distribution is quite big.

  • Optimization has been developed to minimize the cost function while satisfying constraints. Nonlinear Programming method is used as a tool for the optimization. Usually, cost and constraint function calculations are required in the engineering applications, but those calculations are extremely expensive. Especially, the function and sensitivity analyses cause a bottleneck in structural optimization which utilizes the Finite Element Method. Also, when the functions are quite noisy, the informations do not carry out proper role in the optimization process. An algorithm called "Second-order Approximation Method" has been proposed to overcome the difficulties recently. The cost and constraint functions are approximated by the second-order Taylor series expansion on a nominal points in the algorithm. An optimal design problem is defined with the approximated functions and the approximated problem is solved by a nonlinear programming numerical algorithm. The solution is included in a candidate point set which is evaluated for a new nominal point. Since the functions are approximated only by the function values, sensitivity informations are not needed. One-dimensional line search is unnecessary due to the fact that the nonlinear algorithm handles the approximated functions. In this research, the method is analyzed and the performance is evaluated. Several mathematical problems are created and some standard engineering problems are selected for the evaluation. Through numerical results, applicabilities of the algorithm to large scale and complex problems are presented.presented.

  • In this paper, we study on finding the rail space in elevators by analyzing each image captured with CCD camera. We propose a method that applies one-dimensional matched filter to the pixels of a selected search space in the vertical line at a horizontal position and decides the position with the thickness of the space being represented by a black thick line in captured images. The pattern similarity representing how strongly the associated image pixels resemble with the thick line is defined and calculated with respect to each position along the vertical line of pixels. The position and thickness of the line are decided from the point having the maximum in pattern similarity graph. In the experiments of the proposed method under different illuminational conditions, it is observed that all the pattern similarity graphs show similar shape around door area independent of the conditions and the method can effectively detect the rail space if the rails are illuminated with even weak light. The method can be used for real-time embedded systems because of its simple algorithm, in which it is implemented in simple structure of program with small amount of operations in comparison with the conventional approaches using Canny edge detection and Hough transform.

  • In the hierarchical framework, galaxies grow through mergers and accretion. Those mechanisms leave faint features, such as stellar streams, shells and smooth stellar halos in the outskirts of galaxies. In order to search for those features in the nearby galaxies, we are conducting a KMTNet Nearby Galaxy Survey using the Korea Microlensing Telescope Network. We present a deep and wide-field imaging of NGC 5236, a barred spiral galaxy. In one-dimensional surface brightness profiles, we reach 28, 29 mag/arcsec2 in the R- and B-band, respectively. We find that the outer disk of NGC 5236 can be well described with a single exponential profile up to 17 kpc (~3.8 Reff) indicating that the excess light due to the stellar halo is not clearly detected. B-R color gradually increases towards the outskirts of the galaxy. It may reveal that stellar properties in the outskirts are marginally distinctive from those in the central part.

  • Since the multi-view video is a set of video sequences captured by multiple array cameras for the same three-dimensional scene, it can provide multiple viewpoint images using geometrical manipulation and intermediate view generation. Although multi-view video allows us to experience more realistic feeling with a wide range of images, the amount of data to be processed increases in proportion to the number of cameras. Therefore, we need to develop efficient coding methods. One of the possible approaches to multi-view video coding is to generate an intermediate image using view interpolation method and to use the interpolated image as an additional reference frame. The previous view interpolation method for multi-view video coding employs fixed size block matching over the pre-determined disparity search range. However, if the disparity search range is not proper, disparity error may occur. In this paper, we propose an efficient view interpolation method using initial disparity estimation, variable block-based estimation, and pixel-level estimation using adjusted search ranges. In addition, we propose a multi-view video coding method based on H.264/AVC to exploit the intermediate image. Intermediate images have been improved about $1{\sim}4dB$ using the proposed method compared to the previous view interpolation method, and the coding efficiency have been improved about 0.5 dB compared to the reference model.
